Iliyaas,

As per our last conversation, I have informed the residents of the Alabaster Spire, the Faendryl Enclave, about your recent visit to the garden and your request to meet with them. Not that I am of the authority to speak for those who run the Enclave, but I hope the visit will be enlightening and informative. Concerning the recent activity and the dangerous proximity by the reivers to the spire, I hope we arrive at a safe resolution to these trying times. I am also concerned that the reivers or anyone else may have taken an interest in our home. It is not lost on me how the threat of one’s home leads us to take deadly measures. I see similarities in my fellow Faendryl, the reivers, and the inhabitants of the Landing, yet it eludes many regarding negotiations. From experience, it is…hard to lose a home.

I must confess, your words concerning Elidal have left me in deep contemplation. You referred to Elidal as unshaped metal, capable of being fashioned into something protective, dangerous, or even restrictive. I agree with his potential to be better than some humans…than most…yet I fear that the fires of conflict may forge that metal into something distorted. As I sheepishly admitted to you in the garden, we all need to improve. To grow, perhaps we all must listen to each other and not pass each other. Elidal may need to shed away some of his upbringing, which may be difficult. We are not as united as he believes, though maybe one day, we can arrive at that point.

I have said countless times that when desperate people lack the resources or the clout to fight their enemies at the negotiating table, they take their negotiations to the streets. Seeing the outside gates of the Landing filled with reivers, and now the Spire, which I also call home, has bubbled and boiled and spilled its heat everywhere. I fear that it may extend to the Spire, though it might prove educational and empathic to understand the threat of a home amidst danger. There may be a way to express this connection to Elidal, who, despite his leanings, has shown moments of open-mindedness. It may be too late for the reivers, but if he continues demanding trust without explanation, acceptance without reassurance, and respect for the space many call home, I dread what the future holds.

I hope to speak to you soon, as I am curious about your interest in the Spire. In anticipation, I have enclosed an apple fig pie. Full bellies warm hearts…or so I hope.

Till then, I remain,

Yardie
