Chaos weapons are made of urnon, a highly volatile substance. They were first seen in 1999, with later versions introducing a new style. Old Style:
New Style: "Old Style"
"New Style"CLUTCH attempts to hold the weapon to the current properties.
Additional InformationPropertiesChaos weapons possess the ability to randomly change enchant bonus, flare, and weighting amount, and can be made into many weapon bases. The enchant bonus varies with each swing. Modification of the weapon ability shifts after each successful strike that employs it for Old style, while New Style weapons change before every swing regardless of hit, miss, or EBP result. The color for both versions corresponds to the ability: Red: fire flares Blue: lightning flares Grey: damage weighting Brown: impact flares Green: acid flares White: cold flares Black: crit weighting New Style weapons also have available flares (not available to old style): Silver: vacuum Golden: disintegration Silvery: steam Crimson: disruption Silvery-blue: plasma A flare is not guaranteed to activate with each strike, but it is quite common to see flares on sequential swings. As usual, a fatal hit will not cause a flare no matter the color, and creatures immune to a specific type of damage (e.g. cold) will ignore it as they normally do.
Further InvestigationHaving an unlocked Loresong allows direct examination of flare for any given color, as well as the (current) Enchant, game-assessed value (fluctuates wildly based on Enchant and flare), and the project difficulty for professional work. New Style (from the Great Auction) weapons are able to be Ensorcelled, so stopping on a lower difficulty simplifies adding layers of improvement.
