The Tooth Extractor (or Toothkey) debuted at Ebon Gate in 2023 and was written by GM Avaluka. It is intended to extract teeth from huntable creatures in game. It offers several unlock options, including one option to allow the extraction of teeth from other characters (with their consent). It must remain either a "toothkey" or a "pelican". The extracted teeth are compatable with the weaving system. |

Off the shelf, the tooth extractor can pull teeth from valid dead creatures. POINT it at a dead creature, TURN to choose a tooth, and PULL to extract a bundle of 2 weaveable teeth. Each creature can only be extracted from once. POINT at another character starts a dental exam with their consent, which lasts 2 minutes. |

===Player Tooth Extraction Unlock=== |
|||
Allows PULL to extract a single tooth from another character during a dental exam. The character must give a second consent, and the extraction injures and stuns them. This can be done once a day, tracked on both the toothkey and the character pulling the tooth. Character teeth are plain, ex. a human incisor, a dwarf molar, or a half-krolvin canine tooth, and PUSH hides the race. |

===Creature Teeth=== |
|||
OTS toothkeys can extract weaveable teeth from dead creatures. Each creature can be extracted from once and each extraction yields a bundle of two weaveable teeth. If fluff actions are unlocked, you can perform a roleplayed dental exam on the dead creature's mouth/teeth. Creatures can have up to four types of teeth, but each creature may not have all types: tooth, canine tooth (or fang), incisor, and molar (or carnassial). Teeth from different creatures may look different with a plethora of descriptors available. You can toggle whether the creature's name shows in the created tooth with PUSH. Currently there are 79 valid creatures around Elanthia that can have their teeth extracted. Valid creatures are animal-like, have bones/teeth, and feasibly have teeth small enough that they would fit on a necklace. |
|||
=== |
===Unlocking=== |
||
Each unlock is an individual certificate. When applied: |
|||
Unlocked toothkeys can extract teeth from another player (with CONSENT) 1x a day. OTS and unlocked toothkeys can roleplay a dental exam with another player (with CONSENT) and can do all unlocked fluff actions while investigating inside their mouth. Extraction yields one weaveable tooth. Extraction WILL stun and injure the target player. |
|||
<prelog2>As you raise your certificate up, your pelican glows slightly. You feel as though your pelican's capabilities have improved. Unlocked Player Tooth Extraction feature. |
|||
Your certificate crumbles to dust. |
|||
(Name)'s certificate crumbles to dust.</pre> |
|||
===Restrictions=== |
|||
Extracted character teeth are very plain, but the race will show up, such as "a human tooth". The displayed race can also be toggled away via PUSH. There is a cooldown for extracting character teeth of once per day, which is based on the character performing the extraction. |
|||
* The noun must remain "toothkey" or "pelican". |
|||
* Alterations must not contradict how the device is made: a metal hooked claw, a bolster, a hard handle (usually ring-shaped), and a small crank. |
|||
* The claw and handle materials and descriptors can be customized by any willing merchant to match an alteration. |

The Tooth Extractor is a fluff crafting script that applies to miscellaneous items. It was originally released at Ebon Gate 2023 by Avaluka. The following facets are able to be customized by a merchant: claw material, claw descriptor, handle material and handle descriptor. Also known as a toothkey. It extracts weaveable teeth from dead creatures and, if unlocked, from other characters with their consent.
Analyze
You analyze your iron pelican and sense that the creator has provided the following information:
-- Tooth Extracter --
This iron pelican is an instrument designed to extract teeth from certain dead creatures.
If unlocked, player teeth can also be extracted once a day (with consent).
Extracted teeth/fangs can be used in the Weaving system.
Alteration Guidelines
* The 15/15/15, long, and show of this iron pelican can be freely altered as long as they follow all guidelines.
* The only approved nouns for this pelican are "pelican" or "toothkey".
* These instruments include a hooked "claw" that slips around the tooth, a "bolster" that rests against the opposite side of the tooth as a fulcrum, and a handle that is usually ring-shaped. The Elanthian versions additionally include a small crank to tighten the claw against the bolster.
* The claw should be made of metal and can have a custom material and custom descriptor.
* The handle can be made of anything hard (metal, wood, bone, porcelain, mother-of-pearl, etc.) and can have a custom material and a custom descriptor.
* Any merchant comfortable with this script can change the custom settings, but these should generally be changed to match the alteration.
Features
* Extract Weaveable Creature Teeth/Fangs
POINT the iron pelican at an appropriate dead creature, TURN to select the tooth you want, and then PULL to extract the tooth.
POINT the iron pelican with no target to clear the selection.
Each creature extraction gives you a bundle of 2 teeth that can be used in the Weaving system. Each creature can only be extracted from once.
Different creatures will have different-looking teeth. Possible types of teeth: tooth, canine tooth (or fang), incisor, molar (or carnassial). Not all creatures have all types.
The adjective of the created tooth will be the creature's name, but you can toggle this appearing by using PUSH on the iron pelican.
* Extract Player Teeth [Unlocked]
Once a day you can extract a Weaveable tooth from a player using the same method as is used for creatures.
The player must be alive and must give CONSENT. This action will injure and stun them.
This will give you only a single tooth.
* Fluff Actions [Tier 2 of 2]
Extra fluff actions let you perform examinations on player or creature teeth so you are better able to diagnose any potential dental issues. Rooting around in a player's mouth, even without extracting a tooth, requires CONSENT.
At this tier, your iron pelican captures:
POINT (targeted - select a player/creature to examine), POINT (untargeted - clear any current selection), TURN (switch to a different tooth type of the current target), PUSH (toggle whether adjective appears in created tooth), PULL (extract currently selected tooth), POKE (targeted/untargeted), PINCH (targeted/untargeted), PONDER (targeted/untargeted), CLEAN.
Current Settings
* Claw Material: iron
* Claw Descriptor: bloodstained
* Handle Material: bone
* Handle Descriptor: bleached
Usage Information
The tooth extractor must be held for all verbs. The examples use an iron pelican with a bloodstained iron claw and a bleached bone handle, a dead giant rat, and a yellowed rat incisor.
Off the Shelf
Off the shelf, the tooth extractor can pull teeth from valid dead creatures. POINT it at a dead creature, TURN to choose a tooth, and PULL to extract a bundle of 2 weaveable teeth. Each creature can only be extracted from once. POINT at another character starts a dental exam with their consent, which lasts 2 minutes.
| Verb | Mode | First | Third |
| POINT | Creature | Sliding a finger along the giant rat's head, you lever its mouth open to expose the teeth within. Slipping your iron pelican in the giant rat's open maw, you move the instrument's bloodstained iron tip until you stop at a stained rat tooth. | Sliding a finger along the giant rat's head, (Name) levers its mouth open to expose the teeth within. Slipping his iron pelican in the giant rat's open maw, he moves the instrument's bloodstained iron tip until he stops at a stained rat tooth. |
| POINT | No target | You give your iron pelican a brief shake and loosen the crank on the side, resetting it to normal. | (Name) gives his iron pelican a brief shake, loosening the crank on its side with a deft hand. |
| PULL | Creature | Spinning a crank on the side of your iron pelican, you winch the bloodstained iron claw into place around a yellowed rat incisor, ensuring the bolster is pressed flush against the base for maximum leverage. Holding the giant rat's head still, you give your arm a savage twist, and the incisor breaks loose from the jaw with a sickening cracking noise. You repeat the process with another incisor in the giant rat's mouth and draw back, a collection of yellowed rat incisors held in your left hand. | Spinning a crank on the side of his iron pelican, (Name) winches the bloodstained iron claw into place around a yellowed rat incisor, ensuring the bolster is pressed flush against the base for maximum leverage. He repeats the process with another incisor in the giant rat's mouth and draws back, a collection of yellowed rat incisors held in his left hand. |
| PUSH | Name off | You depress a tiny button on the bleached bone handle of your iron pelican. You are sure any resulting teeth will be generated without the name of the creature that provided them. | (Name) depresses a tiny button on the bleached bone handle of his iron pelican. |
| PUSH | Name on | You depress a tiny button on the bleached bone handle of your iron pelican. You are sure any teeth generated will contain the name of the creature that provided them. | (Name) depresses a tiny button on the bleached bone handle of his iron pelican. |
| TURN | Creature | Tilting the giant rat's head slightly, you run the bloodstained iron tip of your iron pelican along the teeth within until you stop at a yellowed rat incisor. | Tilting the giant rat's head slightly, (Name) runs the bloodstained iron tip of his iron pelican along the teeth within until he stops at a yellowed rat incisor. |
| Verb | Target | First | Second | Third |
| POINT | Request | You lift your iron pelican and gesture with it pointedly at your mouth while looking inquiringly at (Target), silently asking permission to have a look at his teeth. | (Name) lifts his iron pelican and gestures pointedly with it at his mouth while looking inquiringly at you, silently asking you permission for him to look at your teeth. (Consent prompt) |
(Name) lifts his iron pelican and gestures pointedly with it at his mouth while looking inquiringly at (Target), silently asking his permission to look at his teeth. |
| POINT | Consent | (Target) nods his head in assent and obligingly opens his mouth. Leaning forward, you peer critically inside, moving the bloodstained tip of your iron pelican to rest against a tooth. | You nod your head in assent and obligingly open your mouth. Leaning forward, (Name) peers critically inside, moving the bloodstained tip of his iron pelican to rest against a tooth. | (Target) nods his head in assent and obligingly opens his mouth. Leaning forward, (Name) peers critically inside, moving the bloodstained tip of his iron pelican to rest against a tooth. |
| TURN | Character | Eyes narrowed in concentration, you gently move the bloodstained iron tip of your iron pelican over (Target)'s teeth, examining each one carefully before stopping on a canine tooth. | Brown eyes narrowed in concentration, (Name) gently moves the bloodstained iron tip of his iron pelican over your teeth, examining each one carefully before stopping on a canine tooth. | Brown eyes narrowed in concentration, (Name) gently moves the bloodstained iron tip of his iron pelican over (Target)'s teeth, examining each one carefully before stopping on a canine tooth. |
Player Tooth Extraction Unlock
Allows PULL to extract a single tooth from another character during a dental exam. The character must give a second consent, and the extraction injures and stuns them. This can be done once a day, tracked on both the toothkey and the character pulling the tooth.
