The two-handed sword is an edged weapon so massive that it requires two hands to hold. Two-handed Weapons are weapons which require both hands to grasp, thus can not be used with a shield. The weapons which belong to this group resemble weapons from many of the other groups. However, there is a distinct difference in the sheer size and weight of these weapons. In general, two-handed weapons hit a great deal harder and do more damage than one-handed edged or blunt weapons. The trade-off is less defense offered by a shield.
To be proficient with the two-handed sword it is strongly recommended that the user train in the two-handed weapon skill.
