Additional Information

Properties

Chaos weapons possess the ability to randomly change enchant bonus, flare, and weighting amount, and can be made into many weapon bases. The enchant bonus varies with each swing. Modification of the weapon ability shifts after each successful strike that employs it for Old style, while New Style weapons change before every swing regardless of hit, miss, or EBP result. The color for both versions corresponds to the ability:

Red: fire flares
Blue: lightning flares
Grey: damage weighting
Brown: impact flares
Green: acid flares
White: cold flares
Black: crit weighting

New Style weapons also have available flares (not available to old style):

Silver: vacuum
Golden: disintegration
Silvery: steam
Crimson: disruption
Silvery-blue: plasma

A flare is not guaranteed to activate with each strike, but it is quite common to see flares on sequential swings. As usual, a fatal hit will not cause a flare no matter the color, and creatures immune to a specific type of damage (e.g. cold) will ignore it as they normally do.

  • After a successful Clutch, the weapon flares only at the normal (roughly once per seven swings) elemental flare rate.

Further Investigation

Having an unlocked Loresong allows direct examination of flare for any given color, as well as the (current) Enchant, game-assessed value (fluctuates wildly based on Enchant and flare), and the project difficulty for professional work. New Style (from the Great Auction) weapons are able to be Ensorcelled, so stopping on a lower difficulty simplifies adding layers of improvement.

Loresong (Old Style)

Loresong Reaction
This weapon is permeated with magic, but what kind of magic is difficult to discern because its properties keep changing.

As you sing, you feel a faint resonating vibration from the chaos whip in your hand, and you learn something about it...

The first thing that strikes you about the whip is the weight, which is about 4 pounds. In your best estimation, it's worth about 50,000 silvers. You can also tell that the chaos whip is predominantly crafted of urnon.

Your heart no longer beats like the Giantman heart that you have known all your life. And the world seems to be surrounded by the chaos of war. Strange lightings flicker across the sky. Flaming death flies on leathery wings above you. Deadly magics of master and foe burn the air you breathe and the ground beneath you.

As you sing, you feel a faint resonating vibration from the chaos whip in your hand, and you learn something about it...

You sense a faint aura of magic surrounding the whip. From the pitch of the vibration you determine that the purpose of the whip is as some type of weapon.

As you sing, you feel a faint resonating vibration from the chaos whip in your hand...

The way it vibrates in tune with your voice tells you that it requires skill in blunt weapons to use effectively. It also has some type of special ability, but you can't tell what yet.

There is something odd about this weapon. For a moment you somehow become a part of the whip. And it somehow becomes a part of you. Your black blood intermingles with the darkening red blood of your victims.

As you sing, you feel a faint resonating vibration from the chaos whip in your hand...

You feel that you have reached the end of the whip's song.

Loresong (New Style)

The LoreSong reveals no actual information about the properties of the weapon, just the story. Only recall shows information.

Loresong Reaction
As you open your eyes, a slight feeling of panic overtakes your senses. Darkness overwhelms your being, enveloping the surroundings, the silence deafening. You reach out to grasp at nothing as your arms flail into open space. You stretch, sensing limitless boundaries, the open space incomprehensible. The feelings of fear and wonderment threaten to destroy your very being before the vision fades away, returning you to your original surroundings. As Bardname focuses his voice upon a glaes bastard sword with a flickering black urnon pommel, he begins to shake erratically, barely grasping the sword as gasps of pure panic and dread escape from his lips. Serpentine wisps of pure black undulate beneath his skin, slithering upwards towards his eyes before suddenly fading away.
Your song spins wildly across your glaes bastard sword as ribbons of reality begin to rip apart the scene before you, bringing you back into the void. The fear that had once permeated the space has become one of determination as you attempt to rein in the chaos unfolding around you. Hours? Days? Years? You are unsure of the lapse of time and before the madness conquers your mind, you begin to feel. You feel crystalline edges that quickly morph into smooth curves, then coils and spikes. The rush of discovery floods your body as the ribbons of time reform, and you are once again where you began. Bardname continues his melody, the blackened wisps reappearing across his wrists, wending their way through his palms and fingertips before dispersing. he swings his head back and forth, eyes glazed before blinking hard, his countenance returning to normal.
As your voice slashes through a glaes bastard sword with a flickering black urnon pommel, you are suddenly thrust upon a scene of battle, the sounds of swords and shields clashing together the stark opposite of your once silent surroundings. You feel your force unleashed upon waves of invaders, the pure chaos overwhelming, yet it feels as though your hunger is insatiable. Your spikes stab through armor, your spherical body colliding into flesh and bone, collision after collision overlapping until you are yanked back into reality, your breathing heavy as sweat pools across your collarbone. Bardname faces the a glaes bastard sword with a flickering black urnon pommel and focuses his towards the urnon adornment. Suddenly the pure black wisps reappear across his neck, striking quickly to fill his eyes with a darkened red glow, his mouth turned up in a tight snarl. Bardname growls loudly, sweat dripping down across his forehead, releasing one last howl as his eyes return to normal.
Your quiet melody caresses a glaes bastard sword with a flickering black urnon pommel, and you are transported back into the darkened silence. Absent is the feeling of loneliness, the solitude replaced by an unending yearning. The taste of freshly spilled blood dances across your tongue and you are overcome by gratitude, as you have finally found a purpose. Your being stretches out once again across everything and nothing and your laughter absorbs into the darkness. And you wait for sweet release once again. his eagerly focuses his voice upon a glaes bastard sword with a flickering black urnon pommel, his hands grasping hungrily along its surface.
Faint black wisps swirl and pulsate beneath the surface of your skin, but fade quickly back into nothingness. You learn nothing more. Faint black wisps swirl and pulsate beneath the surface of his skin, but fade quickly back into nothingness.
