An herblore tome is a scripted book used to determine the herbs in the rooms in a select region. These tomes are old items, the last of which were auctioned at the Solstice Dreams event in 2005. The tomes were updated in 2023 to account for the functionality of the original tomes being made obsolete by the introduction of FORAGE SENSE. |

Originally for the 5100 auction, a tattered tome is an Herblore Tome of Elanthia. |
This is the Herblore Tome for Wehnimer's Landing, the only one of its kind. You could: |
LOOK: - When open, this tells you what page it is open to; when closed, it tells you what town it's made for. |
READ: - Provides information on foraged items, including appropriate terrains and climates; any official flora documentation; and any Flora Language documentation if applicable. |
TURN: - Locate a particular forageable found in the tome's realm. |
TURN {my tome} TO [{keyword} | INDEX | PICTURE] |
GAZE: - Survey the current area looking for the selected forageable. |
PONDER: - Check the immediate area looking for the selected forageable. |
PROD: - Toggle whether the Real Room ID displays in PONDER (Off) |
FLUFF: - You could OPEN, CLOSE, TOUCH, CLEAN, CLENCH, FLIP, NOD, and TICKLE the tome. |
USE: - When held and open, the tome will: |
- Be referenced in movement messaging if your movement style is normal (you have a movement style set and will not see the messaging). |
- Alert you when you enter a room that satisfied an active Adventurer's Guild foraging bounty. |
- Alert you when you enter a room that a forageable selected via TURN grows in. |
- Negate the held-item foraging penalty and provide a 25% foraging bonus. |
Alterations of the long and/or show description are fine, but it must remain some type of intact book with pages. The realm cannot be changed. |

===2023 Updates=== |
In 2023, Herblore Tomes were updated. The pictorial index is still available, showing all foraged items that grow in one room. The 50 hard-coded pages have been replaced with a dynamic search of all foraged items available in the tome's realm. When each entry is read, it will list the climate and terrain appropriate for the foraged item, any entry from the Elanthian Flora Guide, and any entry from Speech Unspoken: The Language of Flowers. |
GAZE will show whether the selected forageable is present in the particular room and if it is foraged out. PONDER will show where in the immediate area (maybe the same LOCATION, maybe not, depending on how the area was built) the forageable grows. Moving while holding the tome with a forageable selected will alert you when you enter a room that the forageable grows in. If you have an active foraging bounty task in the tome's realm, when you hold the tome it will alert you without you needing to select it first. The movement messaging is overridden if you have a movement style selected. All benefits apply in the tome's realm only. |
When holding the tome while foraging, the negative bonus stemming from having only one hand free is removed, and a +25 bonus is granted. |
===Instructions=== |
TURN your tome TO a keyword, INDEX, or PICTURES. The keyword is the name of any foraged item. If the foraged item is found within the realm covered by your tome, you will either receive a list of partial matches or turn to the appropriate page. |
<prelog2> |
>turn my tome to tom |
You flip through the pages of your kraken-motif tome, looking for "tomato" growing in Wehnimer's Landing, and find entries for a green tomato, a striped tomato, a red tomato, a yellow tomato, and an orange tomato. |
>turn my tome to red tom |
You flip through the pages of your kraken-motif tome, looking for "red tomato" growing in Wehnimer's Landing, and find the page for a red tomato. You can now READ about it, GAZE around to see if it is found here, or PONDER if it could be found nearby. |
>READ |
You refer to the section of your kraken-motif tome on a red tomato. This vegetable can grow in temperate climates with cultivated environment terrains. It only grows outside. |
A widely cultivated plant having edible, fleshy, and usually red fruit. Comes in several varieties and sizes from cherry to larger than a giantkin's hand. Rare versions produce yellow, orange, green, blackish, and striped fruits. Delicious fresh and raw, especially when sliced and slightly salted. Used in cooking to create sauces. Paste made from the fruit can also serve as a thickener. |
>GAZE |
As you gaze around looking for a red tomato, you can find no hint of what you are looking for. You consult your kraken-motif tome and note that it could not be found in this plain dirt environment terrain. |

The herblore tome was once considered an auction-level item. With the advent of forage sense it has become all but obsolete. |
There was speculation at one time that RUBbing the tome when it is on an herb page (say, acantha leaf), would give the user a bonus to foraging for that herb. This has not been substantiated. |

AnalyzeYou analyze your blue tome and sense that the creator has provided the following information: Originally for the 5100 auction, a tattered tome is an Herblore Tome of Elanthia. This is the Herblore Tome for Wehnimer's Landing, the only one of its kind. You could: LOOK: - When open, this tells you what page it is open to; when closed, it tells you what town it's made for. READ: - Provides information on foraged items, including appropriate terrains and climates; any official flora documentation; and any Flora Language documentation if applicable. TURN: - Locate a particular forageable found in the tome's realm. TURN {my tome} TO [{keyword} | INDEX | PICTURE] GAZE: - Survey the current area looking for the selected forageable. PONDER: - Check the immediate area looking for the selected forageable. PROD: - Toggle whether the Real Room ID displays in PONDER (Off) FLUFF: - You could OPEN, CLOSE, TOUCH, CLEAN, CLENCH, FLIP, NOD, and TICKLE the tome. USE: - When held and open, the tome will: - Be referenced in movement messaging if your movement style is normal (you have a movement style set and will not see the messaging). Usage
Additional Information2023 UpdatesIn 2023, Herblore Tomes were updated. InstructionsTURN your tome TO a keyword, INDEX, or PICTURES. The keyword is the name of any foraged item. If the foraged item is found within the realm covered by your tome, you will either receive a list of partial matches or turn to the appropriate page. >turn my tome to tom You flip through the pages of your kraken-motif tome, looking for "tomato" growing in Wehnimer's Landing, and find entries for a green tomato, a striped tomato, a red tomato, a yellow tomato, and an orange tomato. >turn my tome to red tom You flip through the pages of your kraken-motif tome, looking for "red tomato" growing in Wehnimer's Landing, and find the page for a red tomato. You can now READ about it, GAZE around to see if it is found here, or PONDER if it could be found nearby. >READ You refer to the section of your kraken-motif tome on a red tomato. >GAZE As you gaze around looking for a red tomato, you can find no hint of what you are looking for. You consult your kraken-motif tome and note that it could not be found in this plain dirt environment terrain. >ponder my tome Reviewing your kraken-motif tome, you believe a red tomato can be found in the following immediate area: Wehnimer's, Garden Wehnimer's, Garden Temple, Graveyard Temple, Graveyard Temple, Graveyard Temple, Graveyard Temple, Graveyard Town Square, Garden Niche Town Square, Small Park Wehnimer's, Festival Grounds >turn my tome to pictures You carefully flip your open tome to the last page, which is filled with images of plants and herbs. >read my tome An emerald aura radiates from a tattered tome as you focus on the page full of pictures of herbs.
