Mission Duskborn - Burninate I

A massive shape is outlined in crimson against the night sky.  It circles overhead, cutting through the clouds on leathery wings.

Ekal says, "Oh my."

Cryheart asks, "Vathor?"

Hinonshu hoarsely says, "Duskborn."

Ekal gazes up into the heavens.

Kilthal softly says, "That is the Duskborn."

Cryheart nods at Kilthal.

Kilthal softly says, "And we are going to kill it."

A colorful flare rises into the air high above the free port of Solhaven.

Magister Raelee just arrived.

Ekal says, "I do hope i can find a way to survive the challenge."

The shape dips down toward the town, and the wind of its flapping wings buffets you as it screeches back up toward the skies.

Kilthal softly says, "If ye can cast fire spirit, do so."

Archales adroitly dons his golvern-plated warhelm and then adjusts it, checking for a secure fit.

Archales reaches inside one of the containers hanging from his lacquered harness and grabs a golvern-framed lantern with sooty dragonmist crystal panes.

Speaking softly to Ekal, Kilthal says, "Ye might want to get up."

Godefroy gestures.
A flare leaves Godefroy's hand and shoots up into the sky where it hangs for a few moments before exploding into a breathtaking array of colors.  The sheer brightness of the image before you lingers in your sight for several seconds after the explosion can no longer be seen.

Kilthal softly says, "Going to keep us moving."

Cryheart nods at Kilthal.

[Eastbridge, Disaster Area]
Paired temples stand to either side of the street.  The gate to the east bears the silver clenched fist of Kai, while to the west, a ruined opening leads in to the ransacked grounds of Ronan's Temple.  Flanking Eastbridge Lane, the two temples guard the roadway from the temples of Lornon south of the canal.  You also see a drunken sailor, a pelican and a tall ironwood sign positioned by the ruined opening.

Kilthal softly says, "Going to swing around and then head for the beach."

Kilthal whispers to the group, "If ye do not have an amulet activated, I suggest doing so."

Kilthal adds Cyral to his group.

Cyral raises an eyebrow.

Speaking softly to Cyral, Kilthal says, "No missing the fun."

Cyral chuckles to himself.

Chivalrous utters a light chant and raises his hands, beckoning the lesser spirits to his aid...

Archales tosses a golvern-framed lantern with sooty dragonmist crystal panes into one of the containers hanging from his lacquered harness.

Kilthal softly says, "Heading out to them."

Cryheart says, "Formed up at the caverns they be."

Kilthal's group just went west.
[Vornavis, West Road]
Hundreds of apples in various states of ripeness and decay litter the sides of the road as the path strikes through an apple orchard.  Flies and gnats swarm from the fruit when approached.  The trees still support many edible, ripe apples ready for the plucking.

Cryheart gazes up into the heavens.

Godefroy says, "We may want to leave a familiar at the cave mouth."

Kilthal softly says, "I was going to have it go to North Market."

Kilthal softly says, "Keep an eye on things there."

Rtune says, "Was putting zaps in triage."

Kilthal softly says, "Also a good idea."

Godefroy says, "I imagine the Magister's familiar will be there."

Kilthal's group just went to a sandy path leading into the dunes to the southwest.

Small hills of sandy dirt line this path to both sides.  Tall, dry grasses hiss softly, swaying lazily in the breeze.  To the east, the path meets with a well-defined road.  To the southwest, the sandy path continues toward the coast.

You squint.

Godefroy says, "Careful with triage.  The last time, triage was hit my a temporal rift."

Kilthal's group just wandered up a sandy path.
[Vornavian Coast, Caverns]
A natural cavern has been worn into the cliff face by the constant pounding of the surf.  Jagged rocks surround the entrance to the cavern, but the floor inside is sandy and dry.  The crashing waves can be heard just outside, but none of the waves manage to enter the cavern.  You also see a sandy path leading down to the beach.

Kilthal's group just wandered into a natural cavern.
[Vornavian Coast, Caverns]
The cavern turns sharply here, the sounds of the ocean fading away to the south.  Echoes of dripping water grow steadily louder to the west.  The floor of the cavern dips low here, and a shallow pool of salt water gathers in the corner.  You also an oilcloth backpack, an oilcloth backpack, an oilcloth backpack and a lesser striped owl.

Kilthal softly says, "We will guard the exit."

Rolfard [General]: "Ya explorin?"

Bristenn [General]: "If it approaches, stand aside and let it swoop on in."

Bristenn [General]: "Despite the fact that swooping is bad and all."

Rolfard [General]: "Err...the town be abandoned."

Bristenn [General]: "So, really, do not engage.  Block the exit, however."

Godefroy says, "I'm going to lend my spells to the group guarding the package."

Kerl whispers to the group, "What's the plan if this thing shows up and attacks?"

Rtune says, "Rule 1."

Kilthal whispers to the group, "We want it to show up."

Kilthal whispers to the group, "We want it inside the cavern where it cannot get out."

Metadi [General]: "After it's inside."

Cryheart [General]: "What if it attacks?"

Kerl whispers to the group, "I know you do... but to what end?"

Kilthal whispers to the group, "And then we kill it with whatever means necessary."

Bristenn [General]: "Drive it inside."

Godefroy whispers to the group, "Fighting retreat to the other group."

You whisper, "Its corpse is needed for some recipe to stop th' dreamer." to your group.

Kerl whispers to the group, "But we wait till it's in the cavern?"

Kilthal whispers to the group, "We want it in the cavern so it is trapped and cannot fly away."

Cryheart [General]: "So we wait until it enters the cavern and block its exit?"

Godefroy whispers to the group, "The oil may be the only way to fully take it down."

Metadi [General]: "Exactly."

Bristenn [General]: "That should work, yes."

Chivalrous [General]: "Perhaps we should send fire at it and force it that way?"

Kilthal softly says, "Fire has been known to drive it back before."

Speaking to Kilthal, Chivalrous says, "Just whawt I was thinking."

Kilthal softly says, "So mages, I suggest using that against it."

Cryheart [General]: "Can manuevers like feint or tackle work on it?"

Rtune asks, "How many mages is here?"

Kerl asks, "And if it dies right here, at our feet, what do we do with the corpse?"

Rtune giggles.

Metadi [General]: "I'd be surprised. But ye can try."

Kilthal [General]: "We have not yet faced it on the ground.  We will learn as we go."

Kilthal softly says, "It has only touched down and changed form once."

Ekal asks, "Major fire is what you are requesting i presume?"

Kilthal softly says, "Any kind of fire."

Kilthal softly says, "May need to experiment."

Cryheart [General]: "We shall push Kerl into the cave hole when it enters...he is wearing that krodera plate armor."

Kilthal softly says, "We are learning as we go."

Speaking softly to Karibeth, Kilthal says, "I would let the mages find out what works first."

Ekal says, "There is always meteor swarm....mght do some damage."

Ekal grins.

Kilthal softly says, "Everyone else, stab it with the pointy end of yer weapons."

Metadi [General]: "Remember that it's a creature o' dreams."

Kerl [General]: "Bad idea, bad idea!"

Metadi [General]: "And nae necessarily a creature o' magic."

Kerl whispers to the group, "Can it be hit with normal weapons?"

Kilthal [General]: "The Duskborn is about to have one final nightmare of its own before its dream ends."

Cryheart [General]: "Like use blessable weapons?"

Kilthal whispers to the group, "We do not know."

Kilthal whispers to the group, "None of us have fought it before."

Metadi [General]: "My point was that kroderine may nae hae an effect."

Rtune asks, "So driving it anywhere is fairly speculative?"

Silverthorne says, "En garde."

Kilthal [General]: "How are things in Solhaven itself?"

Kerl says, "Guess it has a thing for roltons.  Favorite meal perhaps.  After rangers."

Kilthal softly says, "Killing this thing will be difficult enough."

Rtune says, "If it presents itself."

You say, "We are trying to kill one, but three exist, eh..."

Rtune says, "Hey there mages."

Rtune says, "They are saying to use fire on this snuffleuffagus."

Rtune says, "Me means duskborn."

Cryheart says, "Ye hae plenty fo that."

Rtune says, "Right? finally a fight where fire is good."

Rtune giggles.

Chivalrous [General]: "I've always hated crepuscular creatures."

Kilthal softly says, "Eyes sharp."

Kilthal softly says, "They felt something on top of the cave."

Kilthal softly says, "The inside group."

Rolfard raspily asks, "Well, must be flying over the city cuz its scared of all dem folks in town?"

Rolfard raspily asks, "So...fire its the fear of the duskborn?"

Kilthal softly says, "We only know it has driven it back once before."

Drigore [General]: "Mynalia is about Market."

Rtune asks, "Wutsa mynalia?"

Bristenn [General]: "Bring her out here, perchance?"

Kilthal softly says, "She is an apprentice mage."

Cryheart says, "Ahhh."

Rtune says, "Good we are short on amateurs."

Speaking softly to Silverthorne, Kilthal says, "They need a ranger."

Silverthorne asks, "Who do I join?"

Kilthal softly says, "Bristenn."

Kilthal softly says, "They should be at the center of the cavern."

Kilthal whispers to the group, "Be ready now."

Kilthal whispers to the group, "Warnings from the other group."

Bristenn [General]: "Alright, keep the aboveground exit blocked."

Metadi [General]: "Ye might bring her tae the other group, where she'll be in less danger."

Kilthal softly says, "Well."

Kilthal softly says, "That is a surprise."

Kerl asks, "It is?"

Rtune says, "Wut is."

Cryheart asks, "What is?"

Kilthal softly says, "Magister Ophia just showed up."

Chivalrous says, "Oh good, more magisters."

Kilthal softly says, "It may be the Duskborn in her form."

Kilthal softly says, "We are moving to close."

The floor here is about half covered with sand.  A steady breeze blows from the south, where the light grows much brighter.  The sound of the surf can be heard faintly to the south.

She is shorter than average and appears to be young and robust.  She has pale grey eyes and dark skin.  She has long, curly dull brown hair tied up in a bun with a suede twist.  She has an angular face and a sharp nose.
She is in good shape.
She is holding a thick tome bound in ivy-patterned leather in her left hand.
She is wearing a set of simple round silver earrings, a series of multicolored interlocking rings suspended from thin silver chain, a pair of copper-framed spectacles, a heavy russet wool dress with slashes of cream at the hems and sleeves, a blue-jeweled heavy gold ring, a small bronze lantern, and a pair of soft leather slippers.

Godefroy says, "Bloody heavy, that."

Pereus says, "Well now, that doesnt seem friendly."

Orphia says, "Elementals.  Intriguing."

Orphia says, "Your mind is more complex than the two that gave birth to us."

Orphia says, "More memories, but less passion."

Orphia looks thoughtfully at Godefroy.

Chivalrous whispers to the group, "Who is she talking to?"

Misun walks towards Godefroy.

Godefroy says, "Well, I suppose that's only appropriate for a servant of the Church..."

Kerl moves over to Godefroy and stands ready to guard him from attack.

Speaking to Orphia, Misun asks, "What are you doing to him?"

(Godefroy keeps his focus on the tip of his scepter.)

Speaking to Misun, Orphia says, "The world has changed a great deal since the Father began his sleep."

Kilthal whispers to the group, "Orphia was a Magister sent to help with the situation.  She went missing weeks ago."

Ekal whispers to the group, "Wasn't she stuck in another plane?"

Kilthal whispers to the group, "Contact was later made with her.  She was trapped inside the Library of Fash'lo'nae."

Godefroy asks, "In what ways?"

Orphia says, "My sister and my brother have discovered fields full of fat sheep, dreams to rend, emotions on which to feed."

Godefroy asks, "That was not the case, in centuries past?"

Kilthal whispers to the group, "She is talking right now like a Duskborn though."

You whisper, "Brother and Sister seems to indicate th' other two duskborn." to your group.

Kilthal whispers to the group, "As  assume sister and brother refer to...yes."

Ekal whispers to the group, "We are not the sheep are we?"

Speaking to Orphia, you say, "You do not appear to be th' person who's skin you wear."

Orphia asks, "Would another form please you?"

Metadi firmly says, "Nae."

Chivalrous says, "More dead..."

Orphia's skin crawls and shifts, and the sound of bones popping echoes through the night.

Cyral quietly says, "Something more pretty, preferrably.. not less.."

Bristenn slowly observes, "..not .. exactly.."

Paidreg asks, "This one, instead?"

Misun stares at Paidreg.

Chivalrous blinks at Paidreg.

Cryheart blinks.

He appears to be a Human from Vornavis.
He is of average stature and appears to have come of age.  He has green-ringed hazel eyes and freckled skin.  He has short, wavy dark ginger hair gathered back into a tight ponytail.  He has a laugh-lined face, a patrician nose and a faint scar forming a crescent around his left eye.
He is in good shape.
He is wearing a dark ivory robe adorned with a golden crown on its breast, and a pair of tanned leather sandals.

Speaking dryly to Metadi, Chivalrous says, "Nailed it."

Speaking to Paidreg, Raelee says, "Why do you believe your form matters?  The reality of what you are is known."

Bristenn slowly paces to his right, moving in a circle around Paidreg.

Metadi mutters, "Thing o' nightmare."

Paidreg says, "It does not matter, save that we can communicate better upon taking a form closer to your own."

Paidreg says, "We wish to live."

Vilkea stares at Paidreg.

Vivina asks, "What is it you wish to communicate?"

Mynalia takes a moment to observe Paidreg.

Speaking slowly to Paidreg, Bristenn notes, "..funny, because we're technically here to kill you."

Godefroy asks, "You mentioned the two that gave you birth.  Whom?"

Kilthal softly says, "Ye wish to live, yet ye seek to kill us all."

Rtune says, "Yes telling the plan is always a good sign."

You chuckle at Rtune.

Paidreg says, "The Mother, and the Father."

Vilkea asks, "Mother?"

Godefroy gets a blank look on his face.

Kilthal softly says, "Indhis and Yaolara."

Speaking to Paidreg, Chivalrous asks, "What is your relationship to them?"

Metadi mutters, "Orphia."

Paidreg says, "They birthed us.  We are their children."

Rtune asks, "Yew is plural?"

Speaking to Rtune, Godefroy explains, "There are three."

You whisper, "These duskborn seem linked telepathically." to your group.

Metadi asks, "And if the Father gets loose, ye too will die?"

Vilkea says, "A child does not have to choose the path of their parents."

Rtune says, "Ah me sees."

Rtune says, "Maybe yew could call them all down here and we can talk this outs."

Rtune smiles.

Godefroy asks, "You choose to parlay rather than attack.  Do you have an offer, in negotiation?"

Athalia asks, "Why must you seek to kill us?"

Speaking to Rtune, Metadi says, "Uh..."

Misun surreptitiously glances at Athalia.

She appears to be a Human.
She appears to be youthful.  She has mischievous blue-green eyes and milky white skin.  She has very long, tangled golden brown hair pulled into several tight braids plaited to wrap the crown of her head.  She has a heart-shaped face, an upturned nose and full lips.
She is in good shape.
She is wearing a delicate gold coronet, a pair of emerald-inset silver stud earrings, a delicate midnight blue rose tucked behind one ear, a braided gold and silver chain, a scoop-necked emerald velvet dress with billowing sleeves and silver knotwork trim, a pair of fine kidskin gloves, a ring of silver ivy leaves twined about a blood-red ruby, and some soft kidskin boots.

Metadi glances at Cryheart.

Cryheart glances at Athalia.

Cryheart squints at Athalia.

Speaking quietly to Cryheart, Metadi says, "Strength. Tis nae her."

Cryheart nods at Metadi.

Athalia touches Cryheart.

Cryheart frowns.

Speaking softly to Cryheart, Athalia asks, "Why?"

Cryheart glances at Athalia.

Cryheart says, "The real Lady Athalia, I would sense."

Cryheart nods at Athalia.

Speaking to Athalia, Metadi says, "Because ye aid that which seeks the destruction o' us all."

Cryheart says, "And it is nae ye."

Cryheart says, "I knew the Lady Athalia."

Speaking abruptly to Athalia, Raelee asks, "... are you capable of extraplanar travel?"

Athalia cocks her head.

Athalia says, "The Father will break free.  It is known."

Kilthal softly says, "No."

Cryheart asks, "Amazing, ye copy her heart-shaped face...how do ye come by that knowledge?"

Orphia smirks.

Cryheart nods at Orphia.

Kilthal whispers to the group, "Most likely the Duskborn is drawing the forms from ours minds."

Orphia strides toward Godefroy and touches his forehead gently.

Orphia says, "In here."

Godefroy slowly empties his lungs.

Raelee quietly breathes, "... fascinating."

Godefroy says, "So that is what you were rooting around in there for..."

Orphia says, "It seems that we are at an impasse."

Rtune says, "Out with it then."

Rtune nods at Orphia.

Orphia says, "We wish to live.  You wish for us to die."

Godefroy asks, "Do you have a suggestion, not involving death?"

Speaking to Kilthal, Orphia says, "No.  You are food."

Speaking to Orphia, Ekal says, "It seems we die whenever you show up already."

Speaking coldly to Orphia, Kilthal says, "We are not food."

Speaking coldly to Orphia, Kilthal says, "Ye want to try us, ye will find this meal is bloody tough."

Speaking quietly to Kilthal, Mynalia says, "Clearly we are for some."

Bristenn tiredly notes, "I grow weary of this discussion."

Mynalia glances at Orphia.

Orphia says, "I wish to know where the weapon is."

Kerl asks, "The weapon?"

Speaking to Mynalia, Raelee says, "Valid point.  And more than merely this creature."

Raelee looks thoughtfully at Orphia.

Godefroy asks, "Would you like to see it, then?"

Orphia glances at an oilcloth backpack.

Orphia glances at Godefroy.

Speaking softly to Orphia, Kilthal says, "We have been waiting a long time to show it to ye."

Speaking to Bristenn, Godefroy says, "Go ahead.  Show her."

Bristenn nods at Godefroy.

Orphia says, "Your trap will fail."

Rtune says, "Wut trap."

Bristenn removes a gold-tipped pale ivory warhorn from his belt.

Bristenn lifts his pale ivory warhorn to his lips and gives a mighty blow, loosing a long resounding blast from the warhorn!

Godefroy utters a light chant and raises his hands, beckoning the lesser spirits to his aid...

Bristenn hangs a gold-tipped pale ivory warhorn from his belt.

Speaking softly to Orphia, Kilthal says, "So will yer life."

Bristenn drops all defense as he moves into a battle-ready stance.

Orphia says, "I speak of the Light that burns us."

Kilthal skillfully weaves another verse into his harmony, directing the sound of his voice at Orphia.
Orphia relaxes and sits down, entranced by the soothing melody.

Orphia is enraged by Metadi's attack!

Metadi feints low, Orphia buys the ruse and twists awkwardly to block the blow that never came!

Godefroy gestures at Orphia.
A brilliant white ball of light forms just above the top of Godefroy's fireleaf scepter.  It quickly grows in size until he lightly jerks his scepter, causing the radiance to instantaneously spread throughout the entire room!

The radiant burst of light engulfs Orphia!

   Plasma encircles Orphia's neck causing skin to shrivel and bleed!

   Flash burns to eye momentarily blind Orphia.

Kilthal looks determined and focused.
In an awe inspiring display of combat mastery, Kilthal engages Orphia in a furious dance macabre, spiralling into a blur of strikes and ripostes!
Kilthal swings a tempestuous airy gladius at Orphia!  A hit!
   Strike through both ears, Orphia is quite dead!

Carellus says, "From within the trap.  I believe that I can keep myself from burning alive."

Speaking to Carellus, you say, "I hope you plan to survive this."

The caverns to the east appear to have been created naturally by rushing water, but to the north, the cavern is obviously dug with tools.  Decorative patterns are etched into the walls, and etchings depicting battle scenes are mixed in with unfamiliar symbols.

Speaking quietly to herself, Mynalia muses, "Why must caverns always feel so cramped?"

Godefroy says, "The torch would not encourage it to linger here without reason.  That may give us the edge we need."

Bristenn tiredly notes, "And, here it comes."

Pereus says, "Something big is coming..."

Cryheart yells, "Did ye say ye knew where Carellus be?"

Orphia says, "The door, warded.  How foolish.  We are stronger than these wards.  I am stronger."

Speaking to Orphia, Kerl says, "An old mage is an old mage... we have several here in fact."

Bristenn [General]: "Carellus, I hope you're hurrying."

Rtune says, "Wake up shadow rat."

Orphia turns to face Rtune.

Orphia kneels and tears off one of the body's legs, then begins messily feasting upon it.  Her mouth opens too wide, and the leg disappears down her gullet, bones and all.

Orphia says, "Delightful."

Kerl blinks.

Orphia turns around.

Auragin gestures at Rtune.
Weaving her hands as she speaks the words of her prayer, Auragin is momentarily mesmerized by the silver nimbus that her movements create.  The world around you takes on a dream-like quality and the nimbus at Auragin's fingertips turns into the image of a slender blade.  Grasping it by the hilt, Auragin plunges the silver light into Rtune's chest and the shock of its impact fills Rtune with life. As Rtune draws his first breath, the blade becomes ethereal and disperses into the air.
Rtune seems slightly different.

Rtune stands up.

Orphia returns her attentions to the door.

Kerl yells, "Close the door, it's too strong!"

Abruptly, Orphia's body dissolves into thousands of tendrils of shadow that streak through the open space.  The moment they are out of sight, the door rolls shut behind her.

Kerl glances at a rolling stone door.

Vivina exclaims, "She's in!"

Rolfard [General]: "Can't fog the deaders, and golems are preventing drags."

Kerl says, "If it comes out, we kill it."

An earsplitting screech echoes through the cavern, and the ground shakes underfoot!

Empty, save for the carefully skeletal oil barrels placed around the perimeter of the small room, the low jagged ceiling and rough walls that enclose the dark cavern nonetheless form nearly intolerably close confines.  Conspicuously absent is the oppressive dampness that pervades the larger caverns just outside the rolling stone door.  You also see a shard of black dreamstone.

He is taller than average and appears to be in his golden years.  He has red-rimmed sea green eyes and ivory skin.  He has a wealth of long, snowy hair framing his face in gleaming coils.  He has a lined face, a crooked nose and a short tapered beard.
He has some minor cuts and bruises on his left leg, minor cuts and bruises on his back, and some minor cuts and bruises on his right leg.
He is wearing a burned mantle, a pair of cracked spectacles, a tattered singed robe, and a pair of worn leather sandals.

Carellus says, "My staff burned."

Karibeth says, "He's fairly burnt."

Karibeth frowns.

Carellus makes a wheezing sound.

Cryheart says, "So is your mantle."

Cryheart nods at Carellus.

Pulses of blue-black radiance travel through the dreamstone, following the path of Carellus's finger.

Bristenn settles his gaze on Carellus, watching him intently.

Raelee admits, "Smaller than I expected."

Carellus says, "Haven't the magic to prove myself."

Speaking to Carellus, Metadi says, "But, if ye announce any plans tae turn it intae plinite, we're taking it back."

Carellus says, "Will need to craft... another staff first."

Carellus makes a wheezing sound.

Speaking to Metadi, Raelee says, "... I would welcome that, actually."

Metadi squints at Raelee.

Carellus asks, "Which one of you should have the remains, in the meantime?"

Speaking to Raelee, Metadi says, "Ye would."

Divone points at Raelee.

You say, "If this is indeed dead...do we go to Icemule or Teras next for its Brother and Sister."

Divone says, "The Magister."

Vilkea glances between Metadi and Raelee.

Speaking to Raelee, Godefroy says, "I'm perfectly content with you holding on to it."

Raelee nods at Godefroy.

Speaking slowly to Carellus, Raelee asks, "... since the wizardwaste...?"

Carellus says, "I would feel it unfair to take them."

Speaking quietly to Mynalia, Carellus asks, "Quite the adventure, wasn't that?"

Speaking seriously to Carellus, Raelee asks, "How old are you, precisely?"

Speaking to Carellus, Mynalia says, "That's one way of putting it."

Mynalia nods at Carellus.

Mynalia flips the cover and re-adjusts it over the opening of her brushed wool satchel, and fiddles with the clasp for a moment.

Vilkea says, "They are not in this town."

Speaking quietly to Mynalia, Raelee says, "The time for head clearing is over for you, now."

You say, "Perhaps they fled to regions that speak to their strengths. They are born from nightmares, they are not likely all th' same entirely."

Raelee nods slowly at Mynalia.

Mynalia nods at Raelee.

Carellus says, "However, as my identity is rightly suspect, we ought to wait until I can prove that I am who I say I am."

Speaking quietly to Raelee, Mynalia says, "I understand."

Speaking to Carellus, Divone says, "...And you have a new staff."

Speaking to Carellus, Godefroy says, "I imagine it will take some time to remake your staff, then."

Your surroundings blur into a white fog . . .

[Courtyard]
A well maintained and healthy garden occupies the entirety of the courtyard.  The air here is cool and crisp, but the bulk of the monastery shelters you from wind and makes the air bracing instead of chilling.  In the center of the garden is a natural spring bubbling up several inches above the surface of the encircling pool of crystal clear water.  A large stone and iron gate blocks the entrance to the monastery flanked by a statue of a woman carrying a crystal staff and a set of crystalline keys facing a second statue of a kneeling young man bedecked in battle-worn black chain armor.  You also see a large fel tree and a polished marble bench with some stuff on it.

The press of the crowd is little diminished by the late hour.  Peddlers wheel small carts, pushing their way through and splitting the air with their shouts.  Delectable scents of baked goods grace the air, drifting from the wrought iron oven of the Muffinsmith's stall at the corner of the market.  Before it, a blond thanot bench embellished with bas-relief pelican feathers glistens in the starlight thanks to a coat of varnish.  On the opposite end of the market, the Belts booth and the Small Blades stand laze beneath the night sky, still open for custom.  You also see a drunken sailor, a pure white sparrowhawk that is flying around and a copper-banded green oak barrel.

A series of tremors emanates from the direction of the Vornavian Coast.  Plumes of dust and debris shoot up into the air as a segment of ground atop the cliffs caves in.

Carellus coughs.

Speaking to Kasia, Eahlstan says, "One of three duskborn are no more."

Auragin whispers to the group, "If any are interested, there shall be a Commune at the Shore of Dreams in twenty minutes."

Carellus indicates his cracked spectacles with a smile.

Carellus sighs.

Carellus says, "And I fear the other Duskborn will have felt their sister's death."

Cryheart nods at Carellus.

Chivalrous says, "That seems almost certain."

Carellus says, "We have some assurances that flame will do the trick, at the least."

Ekal asks, "But is it dead?  or merely reduced to an inantimate state?"

Speaking to Carellus, Metadi says, "Someone made the point that the one here may hae been because it preferred water."

Carellus nods at Metadi.

Cryheart says, "Of course, be mindful of all the lives ye saved as well."

Cryheart nods at Carellus.

Godefroy says, "More likely, I think, that they simply give one another a wide range upon which to... ah... feed."

Carellus says, "They are urges and fears made flesh."

You say, "Rather nasty demons."

Carellus says, "And now, made to stone."

Godefroy says, "Not quite demons, either, I don't think."

Bristenn tiredly notes, "Yes, excellent work, friends and allies."

Carellus looks thoughtfully at Mynalia.

Auragin [General]: "For any interested, we shall be holding a Commune at the Shore of Dreams in fourteen minutes. Please join us in North Market, where Mohrgan shall take us to Ronan's altar."

Cryheart asks, "Ye hae enough coins and gear to refurnish ye self?"

Cryheart glances at Carellus.

Carellus quietly says, "I should hope so."

Cryheart nods at Carellus.

Carellus says, "I am, alas, not precisely filled with a spirit of triumph."

Raelee squints at Carellus.

Carellus put a pair of cracked spectacles in his singed robe.

Speaking to Carellus, Godefroy says, "Ah.  You're settling into Vornavis well, then."

Carellus says, "I trust there will be no problem with me taking my rest?  I will submit to imprisonment, if necessary."

Divone frowns.

Cryheart says, "I dinnae think that should be necessary."

Speaking to Carellus, you say, "Th' duskborn only seemed to imitate visual aspects of its shifting, not personality."

You say, "As I said, they had no sense of humor."

You grin.

Cryheart says, "We shall all speak for ye, if ye wish, and if that comes to that possibility."

Speaking to Carellus, Raelee says, "... Carellus."

Mynalia says, "You're alive, and we captured the essence of the creature as we had planned to.  I'd say we would be right to count tonight as a success."

Carellus shuffles off, a slight limp evident in his gait.

Speaking to Mynalia, Godefroy asks, "You will keep us updated with his status, and inform us of any changes?"

Divone smiles at Mynalia.

Speaking to Mynalia, Raelee says, "Mynalia..."

Speaking to Raelee, Mynalia asks, "Yes, Magister Svala?"

Speaking slowly to Mynalia, Raelee says, "Do inform your master that there are matters he and I need to discuss... before we attempt this again."

Speaking to Raelee, Mynalia says, "I'll be sure to pass along the message."

Speaking to Mynalia, Raelee says, "And find something more secure than a woolen satchel to store that stone in."
