Mount Costumes are costumes that can be worn by mounts. They debuted at Ebon Gate in 2022 and are sold at Sheets Gone Wild. They were designed by GM Haliste.

Mount costumes themselves are not attuned however the results of unlock certificates are attuned. Mount costume unlock certificates are atypical in that they apply to the character redeeming a certificate and not the item. This is because the unlock certificates teach the character greater skill in using mount costumes, similar to redeeming skill unlocks with the origami system.

Tier 1 - Beginner/Novice Skill

At the beginner/novice skill, costumed mounts cannot be ridden.

Analyze

You analyze the taffeta sheet and sense that the creator has provided the following information:
This taffeta sheet is a costume for a mount. The costume description will override any look and/or features the mount currently has.

Costumed mounts cannot be ridden or mounted unless the owner has learned the skill. This skill is available in the same shop as the costumes.
Your current skill level with Costumed Mounts: Beginner

Mount costumes are not eligible for alterations.

USAGE:
 - CLEAN (fluff)
 - COVER (costume with {mount})
 - FOLD (costume; returns to a sheet)
 - RUB (fluff)
 - SHAKE (sheet; unfolds to a costume)

All costumed mounts will not perform normal lazy actions. Verbs currently reference non-costumed features, but this will change in the near future. In addition, costumes will override any other look adjustments that may otherwise take place.

SKILL LEVELS:
Novice: Costumed mounts cannot be ridden.
Intermediate: Costumed mounts can be ridden. Costumed mounts will have a few lazy actions specific to the costume type.
Advanced: Intermediate benefits + movement messaging specific to the costume type.

Unlocks and Attunement

Individual costumes are not attuned.

Unlock certificates are applied and thus attuned to the character redeeming them and not to the costume purchased. The sign inside Sheets Gone Wild states:

IMPORTANT NOTICE!

If you are not trained in the ways of handling costumed mounts, then there will be limitations in functionality (with you AND with the mount). Following are the details for training levels.

BEGINNER: You can dress your mount in a costume, but you do not yet have the knowledge to ride (or mount) them. In addition, the mount is not able to interact with the costume (ie: lazies). You need to train to the Intermediate level of costume handling with the certificate with the riding crop.

INTERMEDIATE: You now have the knowledge to train your mount how to interact with costumes (ie: lazies).

ADVANCED: You now have an advanced understanding of costumes and how to ride a costumed mount. Mounts will also have special movement based on the costume type.

Note that despite the fact that you need to hold a sheet in order to acquire the knowledge from the certificates, it does apply to you as an individual and not to individual sheets. This knowledge will carry forward for all costumes worn by your mounts.
