AFK (Away From Keyboard) Scripting is any automation of the character while not present at the computer to provide input to the game. As per Gemstone IV policy, "ANY experience-gaining activity while being unresponsive to the gaming environment will be considered against policy. AFK scripting of ANY kind is entirely against policy and is an immediately warnable offense. In addition, ANY activity that allows you to gain NEW experience while using Rest Mode may result in a warning."[1]

Warnings, and GM Action

The following is a sequence of warnings that has been recorded leading up to a GM's discretion of an AFK Scripting policy violation:

Scripting Violation Limbo

After being determined to be in violation of policy, the character is sent to the following location:

You have been moved here because it appears you are in violation of GemStone IV policy. Scripting for the purpose of gaining experience or silver is a violation of policy and future warnings may result in time out from the game. In order to leave this area, you must state that you agree to abide by this policy and that you understand the consequences of failing to do so. click policy 18 for complete scripting policy information. GO OUT for instructions. You notice a fake fire rat, a fake skeleton, a fake viper, the way out, a fake fire cat, a fake leg of a zombie, a giant rat, clearly unaware that it is a fake prop and an obviously fake acorn. Obvious exits: none

From here, the character is directed to read Gemstone's AFK Scripting policy in-game, then respond to the effect that the policy has been read and comprehended. This constitutes a recorded agreement to further abide by the AFK Scripting policy.

Penalties

Penalties for AFK Scripting are documented in Gemstone's policy[1]. Additionally, these penalties can be reviewed within game using the POLICY 18 command.
