Bearhug is a combat maneuver that immobilizes a target and does minor damage each round that the bearhug is successfully maintained.

Damage ranges between 21-32 health points per round for up to five rounds. Damage depends on the CMan roll, being 21-26 per round with a roll of 101 and increasing to 27-32 per round with rolls of 200 and up. There is a small chance each round that the target will break the bearhug. This depends strongly on the level of the hugger compared to the level of the target. The hugger, but not the victim, gets 5s RT if the hug is broken.

The warrior nor the target can stance down while a bearhug is engaged. This can be dangerous for the warrior in certain situations. Each damage round causes a 3s RT to the hugger, and there is then a 2s window before the next round in which the hug can be STOPped. Both hugger and victim have a 50DS penalty while the hug is active. A hug can be an effective way to hold a target for a partner to hit.

Hands do not have to be empty to be able to use the bearhug combat maneuver, but having empty hands helps with the attack. Size comparison and whether or not hands are empty are the main contributors to the bonus in the CMan roll. The defender gains 25 in the CMan roll by being in defensive rather than offensive stance.

Wall of Thorns (640) does not offensively engage against a bearhug.
