Dirge-vaon vines were originally called "Creeping Widow-wort" in the Shadow World history. The vines will slowly creep towards any warm object, with its hollow spines being filled with poison. The lore is highly similar in the modern history of Elanthia due to the scripting where it attacks adventurers outside The Graveyard. However, this is now portrayed as accidental rather than intentional, with the plant described as insectivorous. Its symbolic purpose near the graveyard gate is related to its original name, with emphasis on widow making, and the subtle allusions of the gate to female goddesses.
Associated areas of Bandur and Kestrel Etrevion often make use of flora that was hazardous, but for the most part only implicitly in the original background lore which is now obsolete.
