Subject: Duskruin Details: April 2017
With Duskruin upon us, here are some details about this run. We did a lot of updates this run, and we did a lot of prep work for future runs.
Bloodriven Village
We went ahead and updated the majority of shops this run. You'll need to explore for shop lists, but there are many new things available for purchase.
High End Scrip Shop
As stated in 2016, we'd be retiring a number of items moving forward. We have added some new and fresh certificates and gear this run to the shop!
Here is what's new for certificates!
- Ironwright Flares: Added to weapons that can accept scripts. Cannot work with other scripts (ex. fusion).
- Bubble Flares: Added to weapons for +10 points of damage padding.
- Polearm Flares: Added to acceptable polearm weapons.
- Knockout Flares: Added to acceptable blunt weapons.
- De-fusion: Remove fusion script and keep the enhancive bonuses intact.
Here's what's new for the armor stand and weapon rack!
Weapons, shields, and armor made from kroderine, zelnorn, and adamantine. It will be their base properties with basic descriptions. This way everything is known from a glance.
Here is what is returning for certificates!
- Undead Bane: Price reduced to base
- TD: +5 with price reduced to half to make more affordable
- Enchant 7x and under: Price reduced to base
- Enchant 8x: Price reduced to base
- Weight Reduction: Changed to 5% from 20%. Cap is 50% on any item
- Open Acuity Flare: Price reduced to base
- Flat Acuity Flare: Price reduced to base
- Open Mana Flare: Price reduced to base
- Flat Mana Flare: Price reduced to base
Be sure to browse the wares for sale before committing to getting a certain number of bloodscrip, as some items may not be there anymore! Items in the high end scrip shop do go up in price per purchase.
Ratacombs
There are a few big things happening inside the Ratacombs this time around. The big thing is, there are two new legendary bloodrunes in their runic stone form to be found. A cave troll and a troll king. Only one of each will go out, and like the minotaur, it will be pretty rare. There are still moonshards and additional bloodrunes in the sewers like before. The rat catcher will likely be buying rats for a little more due to the scarcity of these rodents.
Rats are going to have a few new additional descriptors this run, and they are going to be much more rare. If a rat is important to you, be sure to chase it if you catch one wandering around, as that is a rare occurrence now. When entering the sewers, you will have a CHANCE to see the trail of a rat. It will no longer be guaranteed if you haven't found a rat this run. You will no longer be limited to just one a run, but you won't always be able to chase the trail of a rat. The chance to find a rat happens when entering the sewers, it will not change once inside.
As the Bank Heist nears closer to a release (not this time, unfortunately), bandits have been hiding large caches of bloodscrip in the sewers. Sewers searchers have a very rare chance to uncover these caches and find up to 1000 times the normal amount! So for example, on your seventh search, instead of finding another 8 bloodscrip, you might find 8000 bloodscrip. Be warned, bandits don't take too kindly to stealing their treasure. If you are lucky enough to find these grand amounts, it's best to be paying attention to avoid any confrontations and loss of said cache!
Celestial Temple and Bloodforge
After the cold winter, a new area of the temple was discovered, the BLOODFORGE. All the secrets haven't been identified just yet, but it is believed that you can transmute a completed pendant with enough special ore and a ritual. There is plenty more to be discovered, which may be revealed at a future run of Duskruin.
When moonshards were introduced, the ability to combine them and create a pendant was possible anywhere in Elanthia, however, their magic has since waned outside the Celestial Temple, and you must be inside to bundle the moonshards and place them inside a pendant.
Arena
The arena has had a number of changes this time around. When the BLOODFORGE was discovered, so were dozens ancient metal automatons. These metallic golems were created with the special material needed for the ritual for transmutation of the pendants. The golems will now be a very rare boss battle, and if defeated, will drop a small bit of ore of the type of metal it was created from. So an eahnor automaton will drop an ore of eahnor. After collecting five of these ores, you will be able to start the process of transmuting your pendant. Not all of the metal possibilities for pendants were found in golem form, but it is possible that more will be released at a future run!
With the new ores, the winnings package has been updated. Finding a pendant or rare treasure item will no longer take the place of a promissory note. Notes have been slightly reduced, as silver will always be a prize if you do not die in the arena, instead of only being awarded when winning. Arena packages will have bloodscrip depending on your score, a promissory note, an ore if you slay a golem/automaton, random loot if you win or score high enough, and a pendant if you're lucky enough to find one!
Data Harvesting
Starting this run, everything you do at Duskruin will be recorded and tracked to your character specifically. This won't mean much this time around, but at future runs, this can unlock special features, achievements, and more!

Subject: Sale?
We've run a few sales with Duskruin, just not at every Duskruin. We've learned if we're going to do a sale it needs to be the day before or the day of the event. We won't run one after the event starts.
With that said, we don't have any plans on running a sale this time around.

There might be an issue where when you get close to successfully transmuting a pendant (in the process) you're missing some messaging. We're going to investigate it. It won't hinder the end result. But as long as you're not in a rush, holding off might be best (you don't have to though).

These are the illusion pins that have gone out in recent event feeders. They have special wear/remove messaging, and display a single line of text indicative of the element they are set for. These particular illusion items are different from past ones in that these can be hidden (if you don't want them displaying in your inventory.)
Specific looks for these:
Air: He/She is surrounded by a small whirlwind.
Earth: He/She is surrounded by a circle of shifting stones.
Fire: He/She is surrounded by a circle of flickering flames.
Water: He/She is surrounded by a circle of crystalline ice shards.
Lightning: He/She is surrounded by a circle of crackling lightning.
Light: Motes of flickering lights drift lazily around him/her.
Shadow: Dark shadows twist and swirl about him/her.

Do you feel lonely? Have you ever wanted to have your very own, abusive, sentient being who takes the form of tentacles and sucks your life away?
Well look no further, introducing TENTACALINDR. The new dating app for successful, evil people!
Swipe right on an assortment of equipment and choose your very own friend! You can also swipe left, but you might make it angry.
Hey, these gloves look kind of CUTE. Look at that, they have a picture with a dog! Ew, what is that? Gross. *SWIPE LEFT*
Hey, what about these gloves? They are leather, dark, and would probably feel good against my skin. OMG HE LIKES TENTACLE-CHILDREN!!!11! *SWIPE RIGHT*
You pick up some dark leather gloves.
wear glove
As you draw the leather gloves closer, severeal tentacles gently crawl up your arm. You feel a slight pinch as a weak sounding voice enters your mind, "... feed me.... wear me again and we will begin our journey together."
Well, that is awkward. Maybe I got the wrong app. Oh well, LETS KEEP GOING!
As you draw your leather gloves close, thick, viscous crimson tentacles lash out and affix themselves to your flesh. They writhe and contort as they burrow beneath your flesh, pulling the gloves with them. The tentacles spiral around themselves as they slowly reform into leather gloves. Your gloves burn as you feel it draw upon your body.
An intoxicating voice whispers, "Pray to me...finish our bond..."
pray gloves
The leather gloves shake violently. A foreign sounding voice enters your mind, "You think you are capable of wielding one such as I? Try this again to begin a journey of pain and torment. Should you prove resilient I will reward you with strength that is not known in this time."
[Repeat this command within the next 30 minutes to finish your bond.]
pray gloves
Several crimson tentacles spiral outward from your leather gloves before plunging within your flesh. You feel something foreign traveling through your body, every point it contacts weakening. You break into a sweat as you are forced down to your knees. A single tentacle snakes upward in front of your face, resting at eye level. The tentacle's tip rapidly sharpens into a point as it strikes! You feel a sudden rush of pain and emptiness before a harsh voice enters your mind, "... and so our journey together begins, foreigner. Raise me when you are ready." You feel strength return to your battered body as you catch your breath, the ground beneath now slick with your blood.
raise gloves
You stretch out your left arm, watching several crimson tentacles spread out from your leather gloves. They painfully burrow under your skin, spiraling up and down your arm. Gradually they move into the palm of your hand as they begin to wrap around themselves. A sentient voice whispers, "I took what I needed to materialize, stranger. Blood of my blood, body of my body, our wills are one." The undulating crimson liquid in the palm of your hand rapidly hardens as it stretches upward. You watch as the crimson half-crystallized liquid from your gloves slowly takes shape into a crimson staff. Beads of crimson liquid drop from its form as the last of your staff crystallizes.

TLDR: The gloves (We'll call it the host item) contain a parasite that can be called upon, at the cost of your health, to summon a weapon. These support just about any weapon type. Yes, even UAC.
More details to come.

SPOILERS
The weapon itself has several bonding tiers, we'll call them affinity tiers. The weapon has 3 unlock points, each will allow for a a higher tier of affinity.
The weapon costs blood to summon. The weapon has a blood upkeep. After around 30 minutes the weapon will go into a dormant state and require a blood infusion to restore its power.
Blood is the currency that this weapon requires to further its bond and use its power.
The base weapon will start at 4x.
The weapon is held weightlessly within the host item and it stores any lightening done to the weapon.
Lets talk abilities!
The standard weapon will have a form of slashing flares known as blood flares. This will cost health every time they flare. These can be turned on and off and will grow in strength as your bond does.
While bonding to your weapon, the weapon will fight its owner until they reach a certain affinity. This comes in the form of a "retaliation" flare. This can happen rarely on attack.
After reaching a certain affinity, the weapon gains the ability known as parasitic bond. This will allow you to trigger the weapon to draw health from your living enemies upon attack based on the damage dealt. This will have a short reuse period. The weapon can also learn at a higher affinity to do this automatically when the wielders health is below a certain threshold. This has a longer reuse period. This ability grows in power as your affinity does.
At the max affinity the weapons gain the ability to call upon the ability known as the perfect host. This boosts the wielders strength, con, dex, AS, DS, and damage padding by 10. This will have a longer cooldown.
If someone who isn't the owner attempts to wield the weapon, they will have a very bad time.

Questions, though:
- When you say UAC-capable, do you mean the holdable Brawling weapons or will these act like UAC gloves?
Yes, there will be UAC boots and gloves available.
- I'm guessing Ranged isn't a good option for this?
The flares and parasitic bond won't work, it would be mostly for theme and the "Perfect Host" ability if it reached that point.
- Will these be available at some form off-the-shelf or is this going to be in the high-end shop?
At this time the base item will be available off the shelf.

PARASITIC BOND
This allows the wielder to force your tentacle weapon to drain health, based on a portion of damage dealt, once per 10 minutes. This is triggered with a verb.
This ability is unlocked at the 4th affinity tier.
There is a second version of this unlocked at affinity 8. This is an automatic health drain once per 30 minutes using the same mechanics as the other strike.
This will occur at around 10% per strike/cast when you are below a certain HP threshold.
This ability does not work against the undead.

raise staff
You hold your crimson staff up to eye level as you draw upon its power. A dark, deep voice enters your mind, "... and so we strike together." A spiral of tentacles burst forth from the center of your crimson staff, their tips violently thrashing, eager to find purchase.
Roundtime: 3 sec.
You trace an intricate sign that contorts in the air while forcefully invoking Mana Disruption...
Your spell is ready.
You gesture at an Ithzir adept.
CS: +530 - TD: +388 + CvA: +25 + d100: +16 == +184
Warding failed!
Target reels from brutal strike for 59 points of damage!
... 15 points of damage!
The Ithzir adept's intestines knot themselves. Painful.
The Ithzir adept is stunned!
As you cast at an Ithzir adept several crimson tentacles lash out and bury themselves into its flesh.

2 minute duration, 60 minute cooldown.

Your affinity is blocked by the unlock tier.
So you will need to get it unlocked to reach the affinity that is needed for Perfect Host.
For a visual representation:
Tier 0 - Affinity 0-1
Tier 1 - Affinity 2-3
Tier 2 - Affinity 4-6
Tier 3 - Affinity 7-9

Subject: Parasitic Weapon Clarification (AFfinity 9 unlock, perfect host)
The tentacle, glove, and accent colors can be altered.
Although it is a merchant free event, I'll try to stop by a couple of times to customize those who purchased one. (I already did once)
For those wanting the mechanical map to further determine if you should buy it...
Blood Flares at their base are the same as standard flares of a slashing type. It increases in power per unlock tier starting at affinity 4.
There are two versions of the parasitic bond ability that drains health. One is innate, on a 30 minute cooldown. This will trigger 10% of the time.
The other can be triggered once every 10 minutes. This heals based on damage dealt, and increases in potency as you move toward affinity 9.
This has no cost.
Perfect host increases Str, Dex, Con, AS, and DS by +10 in addition to offering +10 damage padding.
This can be used once every 60 minutes, lasts for two minutes, and has no cost.
The weapons can be enchanted and ensorcelled, however, it is difficult through player methods.
All the abilities go in the primary script slot. So in theory you could add fire flares or weighting... or something like rot flares if I added support for it.

...then why can't I paint you? Oh wait - now you can!
After nearly two years, this item will be up for sale in Bloodriven Village. Paint to your heart's content and gain skill as you do so. Your paintings will become more and more elaborate as you hone in on that design talent. If you are persistent with your studies, and have an unlocked easel (also available at Duskruin) you could master the skill and paint someone else's portrait!
A very, very small number of Tier 2 items will at some point be made available, though at this time it's undecided where -- but these will allow your very own customized paintings.
I do have to give a HUGE shout out to all the GMs (Galene, Wyrom, Vanah, Elysani, Wakefield, Xayle... I hope I'm not forgetting anyone), Mentors, and players, who helped me finish up paintings and get this item out the door. xoxo

With enough skill, and the right easel, the possibilities are endless!

This item can be freely altered, but it must remain an "easel". Long descriptions are okay; no shows. It may not be lightened/deepened. Current verbs: CLEAN, CLOSE, HUG, OPEN, and PULL.
If you are holding a suitable paintbrush, you can PAINT EASEL to paint pictures! As you paint more pictures, your skill will progress, and you will create more elaborate paintings. Your easel must be on the ground in order to paint.
If you progress far enough in your painting skill, and you have an unlocked easel, you can:
Tier 1: paint a portrait of another person using pre-written styles.
Tier 2: design your own custom paintings. (Please note that this tier will be rare.)
HUG the wooden easel to view the syntax for special Master Painter commands.
The easel is currently Tier 0. (0|1|2)

The easel conveniently has all the paint you'll ever need. You'll need a paintbrush, though. Those are sold in the shop as well.
Easels come off the shelf with 20 pieces of canvas. You can either buy more canvas (in stacks of 10) or you can purchase the canvas maker. It's pricey though, and if you have a ranger friend who can forage (non-broken) twigs, you'll be set for life.

MAN you guys are keeping me busy!
Okay, a few things addressed.
1) Cats and rats should no longer prevent you from doing what you need to do with your easels.
2) Multiple easels in a room should no longer cause issues with painting.
3) Numerous typos and truncated strings have been fixed (like the eye color in the WORSHIP painting.)
4) Fixed the "in a xxx setting" text issue in painting messages for the model.
5) Fixed the foe vanquished to pull from the model and not the painter. (whoops!)
6) Fixed the issue with self-targetted portraits. Sorry guys, you'll have to find another artist!
What'd I forget?!

Depends on what exactly you mean by "play well". At present they just ignore each other, but they're compatible as far as wearing one of each at the same time. Both sets were designed with cross-interactions in mind, there just hasn't been time to get it all in place.
The verb sets are as similar as was practical, so SHOW (object) TO QUILL provides the means to feed them (although the cricket salesman's updates aren't in place yet, so the tentacled quills will have to go hungry for a bit longer).
Also, neither set has any ambient messaging at present, but the quills situation kind of begs for it, so we'll see.
