Mailing supplies are used with the mail system to send letters or items without the need to meet someone else in person. Mailing supplies consist of two core compenents: containers, which include envelopes and parcels, plus stamps, which include stampbooks as well as individual stamps. Mailing supplies are sold in post offices in each town or city, with unique offerings available at each post office. In addition to mailing supplies, post offices often sell mail paper, mail signet rings, sealing wax, and unscripted writing quills. EnvelopeMail envelopes are small mailing containers that can hold only a single small item. Once a letter or small trinket is placed inside, they can be CLOSEd. An envelope can be opened and closed repeatedly until a stamp is applied to it. Once a stamp has been applied, preparing it for use with the mail system, OPENing it will destroy the envelope and place its contents in the hand previously holding it. This also destroys the applied stamp. Mail envelopes can be made with a Tier 5 Papermaker.
You analyze the green parchment envelope and sense that there is no recorded information on that item. It may or may not be able to be worked on by a merchant alterer. Try as you might, you cannot get a good sense of whether or not the envelope's pockets could get any deeper, but you can tell that the envelope is as light as it can get.
A heavy green parchment envelope is a parcel meant for sending letters or very small trinkets to other adventurers.
ParcelMail parcels are larger mailing containers that can hold up to 9 items in a single package.
You analyze the oilcloth package and sense that there is no recorded information on that item. It may or may not be able to be worked on by a merchant alterer. Try as you might, you cannot get a good sense of whether or not the package's pockets could get any deeper, but you might be able to have a talented merchant lighten the oilcloth package for you.
A string-bound oilcloth package is a parcel meant for sending items to other adventurers. StampbookStampbooks hold a set number of stamps, typically 10, and can be purchased from a post office. A stampbook can be used to directly apply a stamp onto an envelope or parcel via PUT, or an individual stamp can be removed first via PULL. Stampbooks come in three mail speed varieties: standard, express, and first class.
You analyze the honey yellow stampbook and sense that the creator has provided the following information:
This item is a stampbook. You can PULL it to generate a stamp for use when mailing parcels through local post offices. The stampbook can be altered in the following ways:
* custom image added to stamp
* 15/15/15 alteration
* altering the adjective and article of stamps produced by the book
You get no sense of whether or not the stampbook may be further lightened.
The stampbook is a stampbook holding 20 express stamps. Express mail strikes a balance of speed and cost when mailing items. Intricate artwork decorates each stamp: The light pink stamp is covered with tiny daisies. You can PULL the stampbook to produce a daisy-inked light pink stamp.
StampAn individual stamp can be PULLed from a stampbook and then applied to an envelope or parcle. Stamps come in three mail speed varieties: standard, express, and first class.
You analyze the light pink stamp and sense that the creator has provided the following information: This item is a stamp for use when mailing parcels through local post offices. LOOK at it for more details. It cannot be altered under any circumstances. You get no sense of whether or not the stamp may be further lightened.
The stamp is a common stamp meant to be used when mailing items to other adventurers. Express mail strikes a balance of speed and cost when mailing items. Intricate artwork decorates the stamp: The light pink stamp is covered with tiny daisies.
Additional InformationEnvelopes and parcles must have something inside in order to be sent via the mail system. Both mail paper and stationery paper work with mail system envelopes and parcels, although each type of paper has its own benefits and drawbacks. Stamps applied to postcards are not displayed or indicated in any way on the postcard. Stamp SpeedsStamps and stampbooks come in three varieties: standard, express, and first class. Both the speed of delivery and the cost to mail it increases with each stamp type.
CustomizingMail system items can be combined to seal envelopes and parcels. This is done via a signet and wax compatible with the mailing system. Wax and signets can modify how the envelope or parcel looks. In addition, stamps are also displayed on the envelope or package, allowing for a wide range of customization. Be sure to LOOK at envelopes received in the mail before opening them as they are destroyed in the process!
A heavy green parchment envelope is a parcel meant for sending letters or very small trinkets to other adventurers. Affixed to the front is a daisy-inked light pink stamp marking the envelope as a piece of express mail. The stamp is decorated with intricate artwork: The light pink stamp is covered with tiny daisies. An intact blob of pristine white wax imprinted with a sprig of aconite wreathing a coiled basilisk is affixed to the envelope.
Unlike envelopes, packages are not destroyed when they are opened. As a result, if they have been sealed with wax and a signet, the broken seal is identified in the package's LOOK/SHOW description. Stamps are single use. Once an envelope or parcel has been sent through the mail, the stamp on it changes appearance to note that it has been used already. In addition, if a stamp has not be manually applied to an envelope or parcel prior to mailing it and instead the item has been mailed by paying the postmaster directly, the stamp on the outside of the envelope or parcel will not be decorated with intricate artwork. It will still have some sort of default appearance, but the additional lines noting that the stamp's details look like will be omitted. A heavy green parchment envelope is a parcel meant for sending letters or very small trinkets to other adventurers. It is addressed to XXX from YYY. Affixed to the front is a small mint green stamp marking the envelope as a piece of mail, but the stamp appears to have been used already. See Also |
