The maul is one of many large Two-Handed Weapons that is very useful against players and creatures that wear heavier armor. Traditionally a very long-handled sledge for driving stakes, this huge hammer can be devastating in strong hands. Since the maul does only crushing damage, it is possible to guarantee, with a high enough endroll, a fatal result with aimed attacks to the target's head or neck. This is due to the combination of game mechanics involving critical randomization and crush injuries.
The maul is considered by many players to be, if not the best, one of the most effective weapons available.
Maul used to be an alternate verb for a war mattock. Some old mauls are still mattock base, and can be converted at a portal in the local weapons shop.
Alternate Names
