This article includes information about mechanics and etiquette but doesn't cover how to actually play the game. For new players there is a fairly long official guide at at http://www.play.net/gs4/info/npg/home.asp which so far doesn't seem to have been transcribed to GSWiki. Would anyone object to adding the content here? ZHOUY1 (talk) 13:51, 23 March 2016 (CDT) |

:Nope, although Simu might get the idea that you're going to transcribe everything for them. Unfortunately that project has been business as usual :) VANKRASN39 (talk) 13:59, 23 March 2016 (CDT) |

Stats Grades
Although I think its a commendable idea to try summarize information for the new player, I do not think the grade column accomplishes this goal. The "average" player is not a helpful unit - as the table shows, the usefulness (grade) of the stat is highly dependent upon profession (and to a lesser degree race). I think this table would still be very useful without the grade column. VERSIN (talk) 00:57, 21 February 2015 (CST)
- It was mostly an idea to give new players a quick summary. Each professional page should be covering statistics in some detail. That column is actually much more succinct than all my walls of text about the statistics themselves, even if very generalized. For example, Logic really does get an A while Influence really does get an F. The problem is mostly figuring out how to deal with the things in between so that it's a B/C average. I kind of figured someone would have complained about this weeks ago when I made it, but there's always waiting a little while! ^_^ DAID (talk) 06:53, 21 February 2015 (CST)
- I guess the question is if there is a use in giving a general feel for the importance of a statistic for new players or not. The grades, for example, could be given into a more general range than a single value. DAID (talk) 08:32, 21 February 2015 (CST)
- Right, and I think the "prime stat" and "main systems" column do a great job of quickly showing the relative importance. If I want to play a warrior I know ST and CO are important but WI not so much, and as you point out I can read more on the profession page. LO is an "A" for the advanced player but will not directly help a new player with any combat systems, which they might appreciate more. VERSIN (talk) 09:08, 21 February 2015 (CST)
- The questions that new players often ask are, "What is the best stat placement for me?" and (a few weeks in) "Here are my stats, should I change them before the 30 days are over?" I feel the grading system does not directly address these questions. They don't want you to grade their work, they want you to tell them what the right answer is. And really the table isn't an ideal place to present that. It is a handy lookup table for what stats affect what systems and should limit itself to that purpose.
