Halcyon Hills is a large creature-free area located outside of the Wehnimer's Landing gates, just south of Melgorehn's Reach. The area hosts memorials to characters of players who have passed in real life.

Players are reminded that all items left in this area are likely in memory of someone.

The Legend of Halcyon Hills explains its existence.

Behind the Scenes

When it opened about 2003, the GameMasters decided to not put names on any of the memorials; thus, anything in the area that is a flower, tree, bench, or bier is a memorial to someone. An investigation by APM Wyrom turned up no database of the dedications.

Mourner's Cabin

Players may also memorialize their friends with candles found in the Mourner's Cabin.

[Mourner's Cabin]
The walls of this small cabin are made from hand-carved golden oak. Polished cedar and mahogany trim adds character to the otherwise simple appearance. A small fire burns within a rough granite fireplace, the half-consumed logs filling the air with the pleasant scent of applewood. Dozens of candles rest atop a large wooden table, a small apple crate, and some golden oak shelves. Moonlight streams in through the cabin's single window, bathing the room in a pale silvery glow.

"The candles sold in this shop are special candles. They may only be lit within Halcyon Hills, and only next to a body of water. To dedicate your candle to someone special, just whisper his or her name to the candle. Then, light the candle beside the lake. New candles will be added periodically. If there is a specific candle description that you would like, please leave a note on the message tree."

All candles are 100 silvers

Identified Memorials

Lissanne

A marble memorial
Carved from a single piece of polished black marble are two magnificent swans. The marble has been intricately feathered to form the bodies of each swan, with sinuously carved necks raised in an expression of strength and elegance. Each swan faces the other, with heads bowed slightly, so that the necks form the shape of a heart. The lower part of each swan melds into black marble, forming a base that is engraved with roses embedded with pink resin. A flourish of recessed carved leaves adorn the front and sides. There appears to be something written on the base.

Carved into the marble, it reads:

"In remembrance of Lissanne, the embodiment of the warrior spirit and Demianna, from whom we will continue to draw strength. Forever in our hearts."

Zzentar

A polished marble statue
Chiseled in white marble with streaks of red and grey is the image of a dark elven mage. With his gaze directed skyward, a gentle smile plays across his features. To his chest is clutched a slender, etched runestaff. Delicately carved from thin, red-streaked marble, a raised banner furls above him and drapes across one shoulder. At the base of the statue rests an elegantly scribed plaque.

In the Common language, it reads:

In Memory of our dear friend Zzentar, who generously shared his knowledge and friendship across these lands.
~~He will live on in the hearts of all those touched by his gentle spirit.~~

Bisco

A large dark granite statue
Shaped from smooth dark granite, the statue is that of a short giantman with thin hair sprouting out wildly from all directions of his head, and a baker's apron stretched across an enormously rotund belly. His marbled eyes sparkle and his lips are chiseled into an eternal, whimsical smile while his hand clutches a large beer stein.

There appears to be something written on it.

Positioned before the statue's feet is a biscuit-shaped stone plaque that reads, "In Remembrance of Bisco. The heat of a thousand kilns could never rival the warmth your memory holds in our hearts."

Lady Wanton Destruction

A statue
The figure is tall and its graceful head slightly bowed. Resting on the pommel of a magnificent sword, its hands are slightly crossed, with arms held loosely at its side. While the statue is obviously female, it projects all the finest qualities of both genders: strength, beauty, benevolence, and wisdom.

GM Fawn

A statue
Carved from stone, the statue of a doe stands serenely within the meadow grass and wildflowers. The head is lifted, surveying the far horizon, and its ears are pricked. While the doe's posture suggests a brief moment of contemplation, the sculpture's classic style and weathered stone convey an ageless permanence.

Silverwolf, Reddwolf and Glima

A smooth gray granite bench
Smooth gray granite gives bulk to the well-worn bench. Gracing the seat at one end, a lean wolf lays quietly, the details of face and fur lined in hammered silver, and a great wolf has been crafted of polished red coral on the opposite side. Between these two kneels a shadowed figure drawn in ebon and onyx. Glinting darkly at his throat is a ruby fire elemental talisman. The word "Beloved" is hidden among the trees that form a subtle background for the two regal beasts and their shadowed friend.

Twoflame Widdershins

A polished marble statue
Carved from white marble is a figure resembling a female half-elven rogue with long curly hair. The figure holds a silver plaque and at the base of the statue are a flock of ducks. Being held by the hand of the statue, a silver plaque reads, "God love a duck!"

Tom Zelinski

Tom was a co-founder of Simutronics.

A leaf-covered wooden cabin
[Tomas' Office]
You're standing within the study of the Legendary Tomas. Rich and ancient walls of polished modwir wood softens and slightly darkens the glow of several tall candles scattered about. In the center, a working desk, piled with parchment, adds to the comfortable surroundings.
Obvious exits: out

You see the Legendary Tomas Thesaurusen.
He appears to be a Half-Elf.
He appears to be in his dotage. He has ale-brown eyes and tanned skin. He has short, dark brown hair.
He is in good shape.
He is wearing a drakeskin cap, a storm hound cape, a glaes spider charm, some bright clothes, a rare handmade sheath, and some firedrake boots.

>ask Tomas about who are you
Tomas stands tall and says, "I'm Tomas, a former architect of...Elanthia." Tomas glances around his office and continues, "I've retired to this cabin on the mountain, where I can overlook all of my creations."

>ask Tomas about architect
Tomas states, "I built many o' things, but they are deep in the world, and not visible with the naked eye."

>ask Tomas about jabberwocky
Tomas clears his throat and recites:

"Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!

He took his vorpal sword in hand;
Long time the manxome foe he sought--
So rested he by the Tumtum tree
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!"

Tomas trails off into more gibberish.

Nolofinwe

a pensive half elven statue
Clad in a high-collared cloak and broad-brimmed cavalier hat, the statue is crafted from blackened marble. The statue leans forward on the bench, deep in throught, exposing a replica drakar warblade strapped to its back.
There appears to be something written on it.

A plaque at the statue's feet reads, "Nolofinwe."

Noldi

a black and red marble dwarf statue gripping a forging hammer
Standing taller than a normal dwarf, the black and red marble has a long-stemmed pipe protruding from a chiseled long beard as it looks outward with its glacial blue gemmed eyes. The statue clenches a massive forging hammer, raising it overhead as if to strike downward at any moment. A silver plaque is affixed to the base of the statue.
There appears to be something written on it.

In the Common language, it reads:
In memory of our dear friend Noldi, whose light shown so very bright. He was loved very much by his friends and he will always be in our hearts.

Bbee

a jovial halfling statue with a carved marble plaque on it
Elegantly carved stone depicts a grinning halfling, their eyes closed and chin elevated as if enjoying a warm ray of sunlight. In one hand the halfling loosely grasps a faceted dark sapphire shaped into the form of a pill, and from their belt dangles a potion shot through with silvery blue striations.
There appears to be something written on it.

In the Common language, it reads:
The smallest among us often have the biggest hearts.
