For the purposes of GemStone, it is a combination of a [[broadsword]] and a [[scimitar]], being single-edged and slightly curved, like a scimitar, but thick like a broadsword. The weapon, due to its thickness, is effective at crushing armor, but is also effective when used to slash or thrust at the enemy. This is an ideal weapon for someone who uses the [[Combat Maneuvers|combat maneuver]], [[precision]] (although, a broadsword would be better against plate, however, the backsword is better than a broadsword in all other cases).
