A claidhmore is an especially massive variant of the two-handed sword. Its enormous bulk provides 40 points of natural critical weighting to the weapon, making the claidhmore the weapon of choice of many adventurers. Because of their natural critical weighting, claidhmores cannot be blessed for attacks against undead creatures.

Two-handed weapons are weapons which require both hands to grasp, thus can not be used with a shield. The weapons which belong to this group resemble weapons from many of the other groups. However, there is a distinct difference in the sheer size and weight of these weapons. In general, two-handed weapons hit a great deal harder and do more damage than one-handed weapons. The trade-off is less defense offered by a shield.

Claidhmores are on the high end of the damaging weapons in the Two-Handed Weapons skill. In addition, they have the potential to cause a substantial amount of critical damage to those who are on the receiving end of the weapon.

The main differences between old-style and new-style claidhmores are that old-style has a -10 AS (thus a laen claidhmore would be 3x - 2x = 1x or +5 AS) and a +10 AvD (versus new-style.) These factors essentially even out. Additionally, new-style claidhmores lend a higher DS to many stances, but have a lower damage factor against some armor.

Standard claidhmores have a weapon weight of 12 lbs.

Inspecting a new-style claidhmore:

After a careful inspection you determine that a dark claidhmore requires skill in twohanded weapons to use effectively.

Inspecting an old-style claidhmore:

After a careful inspection you determine that a laen claidhmore requires skill in twohanded weapons to use effectively. It appears to be a modified twohanded sword.
