Tucked away in seclusion near the Locksmehr River is place known as Bloodriven Village. Notorious to bandits, outlaws, and ruffians to congregate and do business. Located underground from the village, the infamous Duskruin Arena is a place of blood sports among the brave. Earn special scrip to buy a wealth of prizes. Duskruin Arena is a free event to spectators, with options to buy what you like, instead of a full-blown ticketed event.

There are still a lot of details about Duskruin we haven't announced. But I can explain a little bit here, since it seems so long since the event was announced.

Duskruin Arena will be a free spectator event, where you're welcome to watch and wander about at your leisure. If you have no interest in anything, you're not stuck with an event ticket you're unhappy with. Instead, you can buy into the event as much as you'd like. Things will not be for sale via silvers, but for bloodscrip. If you tried Troubled Waters, you'll be familiar a little more with their blackscrip. Items will be for sale using this alternative currency. To earn bloodscrip, you'll need to compete in the arena or wander into the catacombs under the village of Bloodriven.

I'll have more details soon, and by soon, I mean Real Soon Now!

There will not be merchants and the like at the arena. Some shops may offer things that merchants will work on (ie, unlocking) at another time in the main game, though.

The arena is PvE. So you fight through a progression of creatures and deal with random hazards!

I had hoped to get info tonight, but I'll try for tomorrow.

Subject: Duskruin Arena - A Primer

Duskruin has piqued a lot of interest since it was first mentioned at SimuCon 2014. It was originally slated for the spring time last year, but we decided to change up the venue on the event and try something new. So let me explain what this event is.

The event is free to be a spectator. You can come and go as much as you please. There are some sights and places to rest should you just like a place to roleplay. About 99.9% of all things for sale are priced with bloodscrip. To earn bloodscrip you can compete in the arena or search for loot in the sewers. To enter either of these, you will need a dueling slip or gold rat token. Both of these items will be in the SimuCoin store for 100 SimuCoins.

You can go as much as you'd like, but will need a new dueling slip or gold rat token for each trip in. We have a large number of newly created items for sale. Brand new scripts and some really interesting things. Currently, we don't have any ways to upgrade gear or unlock anything, but it will likely be something down the road that we do. So you can either spend your bloodscrip or save it for a later use.

The arena is a PvE combat sequence with 5 levels of combat. You start off fighting beasts until you make it to the last round where you fight a champion. You have 5 minutes per round to defeat each level. As the timer ticks away, you will run into more environmental hazards in the arena, such as being slammed into a spiked wall or having arrows shot at you. Defeating the beast in a timely fashion will earn you bonus bloodscrip to your prize cache. Should you defeat the champion, you'll also earn a temporary title of Champion until you log out. If you're defeated, you'll lose half the bloodscrip you earned. If you merely run out of time, you'll just earn the bloodscrip that you were credited for until then. You can WATCH combatants as a spectator much like you could at Droughtman's Maze Challenge. You can WATCH LIST to see a list of people in the arena at any time, and even CHEER them on. You can also YELL to those fighting!

The sewers are like a large-scaled Deserted Cottage from Ebon Gate. You go inside and just have to search around. You get 10 to 12 searches before you'll be washed out. You have a time limit of one hour to do this. You mostly find bloodscrip, but can find random loot, or if you're lucky enough, a rat. You can only catch one rat per time Duskruin Arena is around, which currently is a weekend at a time. The rats are amazing little pets created by GM Keios. The catch is, the rat is in a random location inside the sewers, and there are about 100 rooms. To add to the hunt, the sewers are constantly shifting, so it will be difficult to find it running around aimlessly. There are clues to know which way to go or if you're in the correct spot. That's up to you to figure out.

Bloodscrip will be a physical item you can REDEEM. But if you are defeated in the arena, the bloodscrip are added to your total, much like Troubled Waters. You can trade the physical bloodscrip you find, but you cannot trade after they are redeemed or applied to you. You will need to REDEEM them to be able to make purchased at the shops, they do not work like a promissory note.

The original design concept was created by GM Scrimge and arena/sewer mechanics were by GM Wyrom. GMs Haliste, Keios, Liia, Luneth, Scrimge, Reidyn, Valyrka, and Wyrom all created shops. GMs Haliste, Liia, Mazreth, Scrimge, and Wyrom all had a hand in painting the area. GMs Aulis, Haliste, Kaikala, Krellis, Sherlise, Spalt, and Vanah were huge helps with QC and testing, as well as various last minute needs to help get this out.

We will likely be beta testing this event in Platinum, with free dueling slips and gold rat tokens, next week. More details will be posted in Platinum in the coming days. Feel free to post your questions, concerns, or excitement in this topic.

>>hooray more microtransactions for in game reward in a game we're already paying too much for!

When Duskruin Arena was first conceived, the event was originally intended to be a $30 to $40 pay event. Based heavily on a survey that we offered awhile ago, we decided to change the venue to go with the poll's highest results. Events that were free to enter, but you made microtrans purchases to buy what you wanted. This is a pay event, but it's pay what you want to get out of it. If you just like to hang out, you can, for free. If you want some of the new scripted swag, then you can earn what you want. If you want to sell bloodscrip, we're allowing that too here. Try not to look at it too negatively. We're trying something new.

We'll do it a handful of times a year. For now, we'll keep it to weekend events. This is an unmanned event, so no GMs will be running anything like merchants. But unmanned doesn't mean some poor dude (me) won't be on all day watching over it.

>>This sounds incredible. I know I want my little 'bad guy' to engage in it, but it's still somewhat unclear what is to be gained for the risk. Killing things, though, is no problem. I'm anxious to see the feedback from the Plat folks, to put some of the mystery into perspective.

You earn bloodscrip, which can be used to buy items in the shops. Once Platinum tests it, they can provide logs which may help.

>>Just to be clear, to participate in the arena (to engage in an activity with the opportunity to earn "bloodscrip"), costs SimuCoins?

Yes. You buy SimuCoins, and then head into the SimuCoin store to buy either a gold rat token or a dueling slip (which ever you prefer to participate in). Each will cost 100 SimuCoins.

>>So, I buy some SimuCoins, then I go and watch when the event is active, and when I'm feeling froggy, I tell the NPC I want to enter, and SimuCoins are deducted from my account? Then I get in line behind whomever else is feeling froggy and then I kill or be killed in the arena?

Yeah, the items won't be limited, and we have about 200 arena rooms. So there shouldn't be a line. If we have a line, I'll pat myself on the back, because that means we have a lot of people loving the event.

Just noting here, beta testing was very successful in Platinum. I was able to round up a lot of players to help out. We even managed to get some stress testing of the system by maxing out the arena rooms (which is only 25 right now, it will be 200 after this weekend).

This means we will likely see Duskruin coming next weekend! I'll have more news for everyone sometime in the middle of the week!

>>Also, are runs of this game unlimited on the weekend?

Right now, I need to focus it on my schedule to keep an eye on things. So weekends will be when it initial runs. We can keep it open longer once we've determined things are stable for Prime's player base.

I'm pleased to announce the upcoming release of a new runestaff script at Duskruin Arena! As it is a new script and its debut venue will operate without live merchant interaction, I thought it best to lay things out so that people could make an informed decision with their hard earned bloodscrip.

Some of you may be familiar with example of my other work, specifically Veola's and Voln Armor. This isn't anything like that, except for the fact that the script does a lot and is pretty complicated. What I'm saying is, go get a snack and maybe something to drink, because this is going to be long. I'll wait.... Okay!

The functionality of the script can be broken down into three basic categories: AFFINITY, BACKLASH, and FLARES. This is also a tiered script with 4 Tier levels including off-the-shelf(OTS), with additional benefits provided at each tier.

AFFINITY: A custom sort of attunement and bonding that effects the benefits and penalties conferred by the runestaff. The first successful hit* against a like level foe* while wielding the runestaff will result in the staff 'attuning' to the wielder. For lack of a better term, that person is then the owner of the runestaff.

Once the runestaff has attuned, Affinity points begin to accrue when further successful hits against like level foes are landed while wielding the runestaff, where one hit equals one point. There are five ranks in total: (Analyze messaging is in parenthesis.)

-- Level 1: 1-199 points

-- Level 2: 200-999 points

-- Level 3: 1000-2999 points

-- Level 4: 3000-9999 points

-- Level 5: 10000 points

Affinity can be worked off, and works in essentially the exact same way as gaining it does only in reverse. If a successful hit is landed against a like level foe by anyone other than the current owner then an Affinity point will be lost instead of gained. Affinity would only begin to accrue again once all the Affinity for the previous owner had been worked off. It is not meant to be easy, but absolutely possible if some one wants to badly enough.

BACKLASH: Until such a time that a full Affinity is shared between a runestaff and its owner, there will exist a small chance for backlashes to occur. As Affinity levels are gained the likelihood of these backlashes occurring decreases until being eliminated completely at full Affinity. The Backlash timer fires every 1 1/2 minutes while the runestaff is held. The base chance for a Backlash to occur is 4% at Affinity level 1 and decreases 1% per Affinity level gained.

Fine Print: Backlashes are much more likely to occur when the runestaff if being wielded by someone other than its current owner.

There are three distinct types of Backlashes that can occur:

-- Pain: 5-10 second stun
Several thin, fibrous red filaments erupt from your <runestaff> and bore viciously into your wrist and palm. Instantly, each nerve and fiber within your being is alight with incandescent pain. Moments stretch into eternity, until a final wave of unbearable suffering crashes over you and leaves you reeling and stunned!

-- Shock: Nervous System Damage
Several thin, fibrous white filaments erupt from your <runestaff> and bore viciously into your wrist and palm. A subtle, almost electric, force ripples through you, the current awakening a vague tingling within. Building rapidly, the faint tingling gives way to intense, wracking convulsions that subside only after the build up is released in a jarring explosion within your very nervous system.

-- Paralyze: 5-10 second immobilization
Several thin, fibrous black filaments erupt from your <runestaff> and bore viciously into your wrist and palm. In response, a powerful discordance emerges from somewhere deep within your core and permeates every cell. Suddenly a stranger to your own body, you are quickly overwhelmed and are rendered unable to move!

FLARES: Two basic flare types, one the 'baseline' defensive flare available on Tier 1(OTS) runestaffs, and the second an offensive flare that is only available on Tier 2 and above runestaffs that share a full Affinity with their wielder.

-- Muscle Memory Flare: Grants a brief Combat Maneuver ranks enhancive benefit. Baseline chance for flare to trigger is 20%, with each unlocked Tier providing an additional 5%. Baseline benefit is +5 CM Ranks at Affinity level 1, +6 at Affinity level 2, +7 at Affinity level 3, +8 at Affinity level 4, and +10 at Affinity level 5.

-- Misery Unleashed Flare: Offensive flare that essentially redirects the Backlash effects towards foes. The standard flare rate formula is used to determine if a flare will occur, and then a second roll is used to determine which flare effect will be used with some flares being more likely to occur.

-- -- Pain 70% | Random Impact Criticals
Several thin, fibrous red filaments erupt from your <runestaff> and swirl around each other in a chaotic dance. Straining to reach a <critter>, they unleash a wave unmitigated pain upon the object of their wrath.

-- -- Paralyze 20% | 6-12 seconds RT
Several thin, fibrous black filaments erupt from your <runestaff> and swirl around each other in a chaotic dance. Straining to reach a <critter>, they unleash an overpowering cacophony of sensation upon the object of their wrath and render <it> unable to move!

-- -- Shock 10% | Electrical Criticals to the dome
Several thin, fibrous white filaments erupt from your <runestaff> and swirl around each other in a chaotic dance. Straining to reach $X1, they unleash a powerful surge of electrical current upon the object of their wrath!

Additionally, fully unlocked (Tier 4) runestaffs gain the benefit of a 1x/day Adrenal Surge(ish) effect. This effect will ease 'popped' muscles, break webs, stuns, and binds, and return you to your feet.

VERBS

-- Clench: Availability = Tier 1
Gripping your <runestaff> firmly in hand, a powerful tingling sensation travels up the length of your arm. At first only mildly painful, the pins and needles penetrate deeper into your flesh, forcing you to summon all your willpower to maintain your hold on the <runestaff>."

-- Touch: Availability = Tier 1
No sooner than your fingers graze the surface of your <runestaff>, is your mind filled with hazy fragments of memory both foreign and familiar. One memory bleeds into the next, boundaries lost and meaningless. Gradually they begin to fade and allow your mind to still.

-- Stare: Availability = Tier 2
Chaos, in the form of swirling red, black, and white motes of light, momentarily occludes your vision. The kaleidoscope of color fades in and out of focus, each hue embodying a raw, primal emotion that evokes a near visceral response, before your vision finally clears.

-- Listen: Availability = Tier 3
Opening yourself to the full force of your <runestaff>, a distant and indecipherable whisper teases the dark corners of your mind. Powerful emotions -- rage, joy, sorrow, and love -- fill your consciousness as you realize you host fragments of a psyche not your own. Felt no less deeply for not being your own, the cacophony of feeling swirls within and rocks you to your core before quietly fading, leaving you your mind as your own once more.

-- Berserk: Availability = Tier 4 | 1x/day Adrenal Surge(ish) ability activator

So that, in a (very, very big) nutshell is it.

>> One of my frequent complaints has always been the lack of toys available that are specifically geared towards the casting professions. This exactly is the kind of stuff I want to see. ~ JADZIABLUE

Those frequent complaints are exactly why I set out to make a runestaff script in the first place. I'm glad that it is appreciated!

>>I wonder though, what does 10 Ranks of CM do for you defensively? ~ KEITHOBAD

It certainly does more than 0 ranks of Combat Manuevers! It will also stack with other enhancive effects, and unlike a typical enhancive it will never need to be recharged. And for all that it does, it doesn't take up the standard flare slot up. So it can actually support additional flares.

>>Make the defensive flare more rare 45%->15% but make it fully rebuke the cman attack. I can easily see this thing flaring and me still getting owned by whatever square critter just cmaned me. Repeatedly. Like every time. ~ KEITHOBAD

I appreciate your having ideas on how to make improvements, but we're way too late in the game to be making fundamental changes to the underlying mechanics. Really, we're too late in the game to be make changes to the script at all. Whenever a combat related, mechanically beneficial script is created it has to first be approved by the Dev team -- so while the core concept and flavor of the script comes from me, the actually nitty gritty numbers part and balance is settled on by Dev and is out of my hands.

>>Make the defensive flare more rare 45%->15% but make it fully rebuke the cman attack. I can easily see this thing flaring and me still getting owned by whatever square critter just cmaned me. Repeatedly. Like every time. ~ KEITHOBAD

>>Make sure these verbs are flashy from 3rd party perspective. ~ KEITHOBAD

They are not especially flashy because, as you noted, they are very mental/internal. This is a design choice and I'm okay with it.

>>Last one is least likely, but move away from this tier business. ~ KEITHOBAD

There are limits to what we can sell off the shelf. Those limits may change slightly from event to event, and occasionally special permission is granted to exceed lose limitations a little for a specific instance. Most of the time though the limits are the limits. Removing the concept of tiers wouldn't raise the floor of what could be sold in shops. The result of not having tiers would be to just have less cool stuff, full stop.

>>Berserk. So this seems to be the main purpose of this item as far as I can tell. Probably worth getting repeatedly stunned and paralyzed while hunting. BUT... you need to unlock it so... What are the plans for that? I have the FEELING (hope I'm wrong) that it's going to be like voln armor where you can get a tier1 pretty easy but good luck getting it unlocked. ~ KEITHOBAD

Since there are no merchants to unlock things at Duskruin at all, the tiers are being handled a little differently for this release. No waiting on merchants for unlocked goodness!

As a general rule though, I really don't have the final say in how often and in which specific instances tiers can be unlocked. I just come up with the script idea and code it, approvals are out of my hands. Much like how the core script concept is mine, but requires oversight and final approval from Dev, unlocking services for combat related scripts also requires approval from Dev.

So, some additional insight into these. I had planned on doing a full-on IC release doc for them, but then life happened and I never got around to it. But there is a backstory about how these came into being, and since some of you might be interested in that I'll go ahead and share it in a less full-on IC document kind of way.

The creator of these runestaffs is a woman by the name of Peityn. She is a naturally gifted empath from the Empire who has always been fascinated by what I am deeming fringe magic. The result of a great deal of research (highly illegal research that the Hall would not approve of in the slightest, hence her doing her work in a shady bandit town away from the prying eyes of the Empire), the runestaffs are born from a confluence of empath and necromancy magics.

The process for creating each runestaff is rather involved, with a little bit of Peityn literally going into each one. You see, she actually grafts her own living nerve fibers and trace amounts of grey matter into young tree starts that are then trained to grow in a twisted/braided fashion. And then she waits, waits for them to grow. After they have grown to an appropriate size, she harvests them and only then is an actual runestaff created.

One of the consequences of this kind of situation, is that it does not lend itself well to the idea of adding this script to existing items, within the scope of this event or otherwise. I know that might disappoint some people, and I understand that, but there it is.

1) I can get one of these and hand it to him and let him bond with it?

Yes. The runestaff will only attune when it is used in a successful attack against a like-leveled foe. Attack in this sense means a spell of some sort, because runestaff. Like level foe meaning something you can learn from.

2) Scrip is character or account based? If account based, then he can go get one himself?

I would feel better if we stuck to questions about the item, script itself. Let's leave the Duskruin-wide questions to the big guns so I don't accidentally step in it.

3) I'm unclear on ... the unlocking aspect...

The Magic 8 Ball says, "Ask again later!" Seriously though, I think we're holding off on actual release specifics for right this second. But complex script it complex, so I wanted you guys to be able to sit with the actual script details for a bit. And, you know, get you all pumped up for Duskruin.

Oh, and...

Will this play well with Wyrom's RotFlares?

>incant 1101
You focus your thoughts while chanting the mystical phrase for Heal...
Your spell is ready.
You gesture at a triton combatant.
CS: +557 - TD: +343 + CvA: +25 + d100: +72 == +311
Warding failed!
A brief tremor ripples across the combatant's skin, leaving a faint beading of scarlet in its wake.

** A sickly green aura radiates from a lacquered spiralled fireleaf runestaff and seeps into a triton combatant's wounds! **

... 25 points of damage!
Flesh flayed from the triton combatant's left hand.

Several thin, fibrous black filaments erupt from your fireleaf runestaff and swirl around each other in a chaotic dance. Straining to reach a triton combatant, they unleash an overpowering cacophony of sensation upon the object of their wrath and render it unable to move!

A surge of power flows through your fireleaf runestaff and courses through you, the sensation at once familiar and foreign, and lends an uncanny invigoration to your muscles.

So, someone, somewhere (like in another place where you player types go and post and talk about things that isn't here, that somewhere) wondered...

I wonder if the timer resets when you stow. You'd just have to remember to stow/gird every kill.

The answer is no, no it does not reset when you stow it because I anticipated you sneaky peeps trying exactly this. So, wonder no more!

Each tier increases the chance for a defensive flare by 5%. So there's that, and an additional fluff verb. It's not the most mechanically beneficial of the tier increases, which is why I made the cost increase lower than that of going from T1 to T2.

Hello, everybody.

I guess I'll be the brave one and tease after GM Reidyn's amazing Nerve Staffs. :)

Coming new and never seen before in Elanthia for Duskruin are Garrote Knives. These knives contain a mechanism inside of them that houses a garrote.

>glance
You glance down to see a rhimar-tipped mithglin poignard in your right hand and nothing in your left hand.

>grip poignard
You hook a finger on the small ring hidden in the hilt of your poignard and give a sharp pull, a concealed wire snaking out of the hilt. Once fully extracted, the blade slides into the emptied hilt with a soft snick. Dragging the wire through a small groove in the handle, you slide it to more comfortable grip in the middle of the handle and give the azure garrote a few tugs to make sure it is secure.

>glance
You glance down to see a slender azure garrote in your right hand and nothing in your left hand.

And of course, they work while hidden.

>hide
Roundtime: 3 sec.
You attempt to blend with the surroundings, and feel confident that no one has noticed your doing so.

>grip garrote
Shifting your grip, you pull on the garrote's wire and draw it through the small groove in the handle to the tip. As you relax the tension, a small blade shoots out the other end and the wire begins feeding smoothly up into the handle. With a small click, the draw ring of the garrote disappears fully into the mithglin poignard's hilt.

>unhide
You do not believe anyone noticed you slip out of hiding.

But, Keios! My garrote breaks all the time! Why would I waste bloodscrip buying a garrote?

>cman garrote defender
You might want to get your garrote repaired first.

>sigh sadly
You sigh sadly.

>glance wire
You glance at a long wire.

>fix garrote
Stripping a long wire for parts, you carefully repair your broken garrote.
Roundtime: 3 sec.

But, Keios! What if I don't have a garrote wire handy? Also not a problem.

>fix garrote
Lacking an appropriate replacement wire, you fumble awkwardly with the garrote for a while until you finally manage to twist the stiff wire together to resemble something that might work again.
Roundtime: 30 sec.

Or alternatively, if you have one of those garrote making tools...

>glance
You glance down to see a slender azure garrote in your right hand and a pincer-shaped tool in your left hand.

>turn tool
You hook your tool on the garrote and twist, braiding the garrote back together in some semblance of working order.

Does it do anything else?
Sure, you can get it unlocked to get some fluff nefarious messaging.

>rub garrote
Keios twirls the azure garrote idly through her fingers, buffing at the wire gently and scraping at any crusty remains on its length with her thumbnail.

>turn garrote
As Keios holds the azure garrote firmly in one hand, she draws the slack wire taut, coiling the excess around her other hand in a methodical twisting motion.

>rub poignard
Keios fidgets idly with a rhimar-tipped mithglin poignard, drawing a slender azure garrote concealed in its hilt out partway before casually letting the wire slip through her fingers back into hiding with a small click.

>turn poignard
Keios casually starts cleaning her fingernails using the tip of her mithglin poignard, the ambient light glinting along its length.

Both the knife and the garrote inside can be altered.

Available only in Duskruin, these dark and sinister weapons have found their way to Fana's shop, A Mist Opportunity. Once in your possession, they will seek to bind themselves to the very essence of your soul, and are rumored to affect the holder in mysterious ways.

>get my dagger
You reach for the vultite dagger and it nearly springs into your hand, like the return of a long-lost friend. The dagger's hilt melds perfectly into your palm.

>clench dagger
You grit your teeth together as you clench the vultite dagger tightly, and a sinuous thread of mist begins to wrap and twine itself between your fingers, nearly cutting off your circulation! As you relax your hand, the mist begins to dissipate, and sinks into the blade with a lingering hisssssss.

--

Black tendrils begin to writhe and coil up the dagger, continuing up your arm and around your neck. Nearly strangling you, the ominous fibers sink into your flesh, and you feel a sharp pain along the side of your face.

She is average height and appears to be mature. She has silver-flecked hazel eyes and pristine, ivory skin. She has shoulder length, golden brown hair matted somewhat. Inky black threads slither just beneath the surface of her skin, shifting her flesh with disturbing, coiling movements.

OOC: These blades do not offer any mechanical benefit.

>look my overcoat
You notice a black pearl clasp secured at the top of the black linen overcoat.

>whisper overcoat I must remember to get a rat voucher so I can go discover treasure in the Ratacombs!
You lower your head and whisper something profound into the black linen overcoat's black pearl clasp. The overcoat seems to vibrate in response to your voice.

>touch my overcoat
As you touch the black linen overcoat's black pearl clasp, you are suddenly filled with memories of a distant past. The words flood your mind as you remember...

These are Whisper Cloaks... they were teased a few weeks ago. Normal cloaks store a significant amount; the more expensive ones are fully unlocked, and store a huge amount.

Unlocked versions have 12 verb traps in addition to wear/remove. These cloaks will allow the user to store a message in them, only able to be retrieved by the original user. If someone else gets a hold of it, they can overwrite the message, but they'll not be able to recall the original message. Overwriting a message can be done at any time.

These cloaks are of a darker nature.

Also coming to Duskruin is my shop, Cut and Dried.
The shop features purchasing tobacco for rolling your own cigars as well as a new cigar related script.

>open tin
The brass tobacco tin opens with a sharp snap.

>get tobacco in tin
You take a pinch of rich golden leaves from the tin.

>rummage packet
You rummage briefly in your small packet and pull out a fat cigar leaf wrapper.

>roll tobacco
You press the tobacco in a thin line down the length of the leaf wrapper, careful to distribute it evenly.

Roundtime: 15 sec.
R>
Ever so deftly, you roll the leaf wrapper between forefinger and thumb.
R>
The tight little tube feels natural between your fingers as you wind the leaf to its end, anticipation fluttering in your gut. You lick the resin along the remaining edge, press it firmly against itself, and VOILA! It is finished!
R>glance
You glance down to see a slender golden cigar in your right hand and nothing in your left hand.

In addition, the shop will be debuting a new script, Cigar Cutters.

>clench cutter
Slipping your index finger and thumb through the steel cigar cutter's unusually sturdy double rings, you position the golden cigar within the blade apperture, slicing the tip neatly off with a firm squeeze.
>look cigar
The tip has been neatly trimmed to expose a bit of the tobacco inside.

There are some more fun clench actions if you don't really feel like trimming cigars all the time.
You casually squeeze the steel cigar cutter, letting the keen snick of the blades proclaim their sharpness.
You glance at Keios and casually squeeze the steel cigar cutter, the dual sharp blades snicking softly.

Not menacing enough for you? Maybe some good old threatening would do better!
>turn cutter
You draw the steel cigar cutter open, pulling past the point of full aperture to disengage and sheathe the blades. Rotating the finger rings inward along hidden inner tracks, you guide them toward each other. Once touching, the handles snap down into new locked positions with a soft click. Then, with a nudge of your thumb, you unfold the doubled rings outward and reposition your grip on the steel knuckle-duster.
>
>clench knuckle
You flex your fingers in the steel knuckle-duster, seating its rings comfortably against your knuckles.

And finally, they can be unlocked to gain two more fun scripts.

You knock the steel cigar cutter gently against the heel of your other hand, knocking any loose bits of tobacco leaf stuck in the blades free.
You flip your steel cigar cutter down and out, letting it spin around your index finger to smack comfortably back against your palm.

You casually buff the edges of the steel knuckle-duster, making sure the rings are still securely seated.
You flip your steel knuckle-duster down and out, letting it spin around your index finger to smack comfortably back against your palm.

And as the final trick on these, the knuckle dusters are fire flaring. Once unlocked, if you PUSH the cigar cutter in either form while holding an unlit cigar...
>push knuckle
You roll the golden cigar gently against the drakar element of your steel knuckle-duster, carefully rotating the cigar to evenly distribute the heat.
>
Small tendrils of smoke begin to trickle from the end of the golden cigar as you continue to press it against the hot metal. Drawing air gently through the cigar, you coax the smoldering tobacco to a cleaner flame.
>
Finally satisfied that you've achieved a pleasantly even burn, you remove the golden cigar from your steel knuckle-duster and inhale deeply from it. The area fills with a fresh golden smoke.

Also coming to Duskruin is my shop, Covert Couriers.

Featured in this shop are poisons and smuggling sacks.

The poison script has been seen before, featuring powders that can be sprinkled on food to give the next eater a nasty surprise.
New for Duskruin, a new variant of poisonous powder, along with the old, is being introduced. Both still work the same, but the new one has a different "poisoning" effect. Neither are lethal, but your victim is not likely to forget their ordeal any time soon!
Antidotes to both poisons will also be available.

The smuggling sacks are a new script debuting at Duskruin.

A short demonstration:
>glance furtive
You furtively glance around the area.
>put diamond in sack
You put a purple stormcloud diamond in your burlap sack.
>close sack

>whisper sack Tamuz
You softly whisper a single name to your sack, the name "Tamuz" resonating against the woven cloth.
>cover sack
You look around briefly for a place to hide your burlap sack, one that only you or Tamuz could possibly find.
Finding one, you quickly stuff the burlap sack out of sight, making sure that it is well hidden.
>

The sack will allow you to hide ONE item inside for a recipient. The off the shelf version lets you to whisper the name of your intended recipient. Cover will hide it in the room for either you or the recipient to retrieve later by SEARCHing.

Unlocked versions get a fancier open and close message, as well as a fluff TOUCH verb.

You deftly tug the laces at the throat of the burlap sack loose, the smooth cords barely making a whisper through the oiled grommets as you draw the sack open.
You deftly tug the laces at the throat of the burlap sack tight, the smooth cords barely making a whisper through the oiled grommets as you draw the sack shut.

Touch when worn:
You nonchalantly brush your hand against your burlap sack, making sure it's still secure.

Happy smuggling!

The sack will remain hidden for about four hours. It is janitor proof. You can leave the area/room/city and/or game with any number of them hidden, and they will all stay hidden and accessible to both you and your recipient(s), as long as you remember which room you hid them in.
Likewise, your recipient doesn't have to be in the area/city/room and/or game when you hide it.

The entire process is extensively logged. While this doesn't mean you should push/ignore the 4 hour limit, it does mean that if your house is inexplicably hit by lightning after you hide your smuggling sack and you can't get back within the time limit, a kindly GM could find out what you hid if necessary.

However, once put in the sack and closed, I get a message that the item is too delicate to be hidden without damage. Is this definitely the case with such items in the sacks? I wouldn't think a piece of paper would be too delicate to be hidden.

To be clear, you are placing an envelope containing a piece of paper inside a smuggling sack?

Smuggling sacks can only hide one total item at a time, and an envelope containing a piece of paper counts as two. If you attempt again without the envelope, it should work.

Subject: Shop Teaser: Accessories of Crime

And finally, my last shop for Duskruin is called Accessories of Crime.

The shop features two new scripts, Hairpicks and Poison Rings.

Hairpicks have been seen previously in game as a prize from Troubled Waters, as a twisted narwhal horn hairstick.
The item is a fairly straight forward hair feature changer.

>wear corkscrew
You sweep your hair up with deft fingers and arrange it into a new look, securing your styled tresses with a pointed steel corkscrew.
You see GameMaster Keios.
She has knee length, icy blue hair swept up into an intricate knot secured with a pointed steel corkscrew.

Once unlocked, they can hold up to three customizable hairstyles featuring your hair accessory.
PUSH cycles through the hairstyles, either when held or worn:
Held:
You twirl the steel corkscrew absently, pondering the merits of wearing your hair worn in a haphazard knot pierced through with a pointed steel corkscrew.
Worn:
You reach up and readjust your hairstyle until it is wound about a pointed steel corkscrew in a complex infinity knot.

And also offers a fluff verb ATTEND to discretely fix your hairstyle:
You brush your hand against your hair, checking that the steel corkscrew is still present and secure under the guise of adjusting your hair.
Keios brushes a hand against her hair, refreshing the style and tucking any stray hair back into place.

All of the hair accessories in Accessories of Crime are also functional lockpicks (the one from TW is also a lockpick).

Also debuting at Accessories of Crime are poison rings and poison lockets.
The rings and lockets feature an alterable gem/design used in the messaging, and have the ability to carry poisons and powders that can be sprinkled in foods, like those available in Covert Couriers and from previous Ebon Gates.

Off the shelf:
>open ring
You open a silver-traced filigree poison ring.
>put powd in ring
You carefully pack some off-white powder into your filigree poison ring.
>close ring
You close a silver-traced filigree poison ring.

You can dispense the poisons directly from the ring or locket onto foods.
>open ring
You open a silver-traced filigree poison ring.
>put ring on steak
You sprinkle some powder from a silver-traced filigree poison ring on a succulent steak, watching as it dissolves without a trace.

Additional actions off the shelf are rub and turn:
>close ring
You close a silver-traced filigree poison ring.
>turn ring
You idly twist the filigree poison ring around your finger.
>open ring
You open a silver-traced filigree poison ring.
>turn ring
If you do that while the filigree poison ring is open, all the off-white powder inside will fall out! Do you really want to do this?
Type the line again in the next 10 seconds to empty out a silver-traced filigree poison ring.
>turn ring
You upend the filigree poison ring and tap it sharply, the off-white powder inside falling out and dispersing into the air.

>rub ring
You idly trace the polished garnet set into your filigree poison ring, polishing off any smudges and dust.

The ring can be unlocked two additional times.
First unlock fancies up the open/close wear/remove messages.
>open ring
You fiddle with the filigree poison ring and open it, its polished garnet lifting to reveal the tiny chamber inside with a quiet pop.
>close ring
You fiddle with the filigree poison ring and close it, its polished garnet folding down to seal the chamber inside shut with a tiny click.
>rem ring
You cover the polished garnet of your filigree poison ring with one hand as you carefully twist the ring off your finger.
>wear ring
You slide a silver-traced filigree poison ring onto your finger, making sure its polished garnet is easily accessible.

>close locket
You flip the tiny lid shut on your filigree poison locket, its polished garnet popping back out with a tiny click.
>open locket
You gently press the polished garnet on your filigree poison locket, a small lid flipping open as it depresses with a small click.
>remove locket
You slip a silver-traced filigree poison locket from around your neck, letting the polished garnet inset pendant and its chain pool in your hand.
>wear locket
You slip a silver-traced filigree poison locket around your neck, making sure the polished garnet inset pendant is positioned just below the hollow of your throat.

The third tier allows you to discretely hide the ring or locket on your person.
>push ring
You twist the filigree poison ring around on your finger, hiding the polished garnet from sight.
>tap band
You tap a polished silver band that you are wearing.
>push band
You carefully thumb the polished garnet tucked against your palm.
>pull band
You twist the polished silver band around on your finger, revealing a polished garnet.
>pull ring
You reseat the filigree poison ring on your finger, admiring its polished garnet.

>push locket
You tuck your filigree poison locket into your articulated cuirass.
>push locket
You discretely readjust the filigree poison locket around your neck, making sure it is still tucked inside your articulated cuirass.
>pull locket
You pull your filigree poison locket out from of your articulated cuirass, its polished garnet glinting in the ambient light.
>pull locket
You tug a bit on your filigree poison locket, gently rubbing its polished garnet while lost in thought.

Hidden rings have the opportunity of having a "hidden" description, the above example "a polished silver band" that can also be customized.

Hidden rings will poison foods discretely.
>push ring
You twist the filigree poison ring around on your finger, hiding the polished garnet from sight.
>open band
You delicately slide a fingernail beneath the polished garnet and ease it open a crack.
>put band in my wine
You thumb the polished garnet open a bit and sprinkle some powder into a goblet of elven wine, watching as it dissolves without a trace.
>close band
Giving the polished garnet a discrete nudge with your thumb, you feel it close with a tiny click.

From third person perspective:
Keios twists the filigree poison ring around on her finger, hiding its polished garnet from sight.
Keios shifts her grip on a goblet of elven wine, giving it a gentle swirl.

This is a scarring razor. It can be used to scar yourself or another who is joined to you. Scarring razors require some first aid training to use, the better you are, the more efficient you'll be. The razor must be cleansed and sharpened to get the most of out the item, but over time, the razor will break apart, unless you obtain a special one that will never dull.

Scars will go in the distinguishing mark area of your features, and are permanent. You will be prompted as to what it will replace. If something is temporarily altering your features, you will need to remove or stop whatever it is before being scarred. There is a short cooldown period in between uses to prevent overzealous scarring.

Scar Selection:
To choose how you scar, you must PUSH to select what you'd like to change and PULL to cycle through the choices available. Custom scars are possible to get from a merchant who can work on the razors. To select a custom scar, you'd need to TURN the razor.

Scarring Yourself:
In order to scar yourself, you just need to POINT it at yourself.

Scarring Others:
To scar others, they must be following you. Once grouped, you simply POINT the razor at them and they will need to APPROVE it. Once approved, they will be scarred.

Razor Maintenance:
Razors need to be cleansed after they are used, and sharpened when they start to dull. There are several different ways to clean the razor. Some come with other effects.

And some examples.

>>LOOK MY RAZOR
The rolaren razor is currently set to disfigure with an asymmetrical scar underneath the collarbone. The razor is clean. The razor is sharp and will never get dull.
>>PUSH MY RAZOR
You fiddle with your rolaren razor so that you're toggling the location of the disfigurement.
>>PUSH MY RAZOR
You fiddle with your rolaren razor so that you're toggling the descriptor of the disfigurement.
>>PUSH MY RAZOR
You fiddle with your rolaren razor so that you're toggling the noun of the disfigurement.
>>PUSH MY RAZOR
You fiddle with your rolaren razor so that you're toggling the preposition used for the location of the disfigurement.

>>PULL MY RAZOR
You fiddle with your rolaren razor so that you can disfigure with an asymmetrical scar above the collarbone.
>>PULL MY RAZOR
You fiddle with your rolaren razor so that you can disfigure with an asymmetrical scar across the collarbone.
>>PULL MY RAZOR
You fiddle with your rolaren razor so that you can disfigure with an asymmetrical scar along the collarbone.
>>PULL MY RAZOR
You fiddle with your rolaren razor so that you can disfigure with an asymmetrical scar around the collarbone.
>>PULL MY RAZOR
You fiddle with your rolaren razor so that you can disfigure with an asymmetrical scar below the collarbone.
>>PULL MY RAZOR
You fiddle with your rolaren razor so that you can disfigure with an asymmetrical scar by the collarbone.
>>PULL MY RAZOR
You fiddle with your rolaren razor so that you can disfigure with an asymmetrical scar near the collarbone.
>>PULL MY RAZOR
You fiddle with your rolaren razor so that you can disfigure with an asymmetrical scar on the collarbone.

There are 3 types for sale, very limited use, limited use, and unlimited use. They are all priced accordingly. If you don't clean/sharpen them, they break sooner (the unlimited don't need to be sharpened). The example one is an unlimited use one, and for sale as is.

There are about 18 locations to scar, 12 prepositions, 13 types of scars, and about 54 descriptors. You can also get a custom one made up. If you use fire to clean it, well, then you'll be branding people.

Wheeee!

>>These make me wish I had rolled up a Mularos character way back when. I see so many RP possibilities for this with the right character.

Funny you mention that. There is actually some unique messaging for when you're scarred as a Mularosian.

>>3: Scar razors, will the scars/brands show up in a unique feature slot or in your normal features? Also is there a bolded flag of some sort letting you know your razor is on it's last use? If they do pop up in the unique slot would someone need to wait for a merchant to fix it or are they there for life so to speak?

There is a lot of mechanics going into razor upkeep. You can preserve the iron ones for quite some time if you take care of them. But using LOOK is a good indicator. Once it can no longer be sharpened, it's on the last leg.

Scars take the distinguished mark spot. I wanted to use a spot that's not heavily used by scripted items. You get a lot of warning messages when you use them. What you'll get, what it replaces, and the level of certified badass you'll become. That last one is only partially true.
