Event

Gathering

[Sphere and Scythe, Cholen's Pub]
Music and laughter filter throughout the pub which is lit by glowing crystal globes hanging from the ceiling. Leather club chairs and small cafe tables ring a stage to the south. Behind the stage is a large curtain with the embroidered image of a smiling Cholen. An expansive polished mahogany bar is centered in the room. Above the bar is a silver-gilded mirror that reflects distorted, comical images of nearby patrons. A clown face dart board hangs on the pockmarked west wall. You also see the parrot-shaped Ordim disk, a shabby calico cat and a polished spittoon set at the corner of the pub.

Introduction

Rovvigen recites softly:
"Thank you all for coming tonight especially during the busiest time of the year"

Speaking inquisitively to Mikalmas, Ryain asks, "Am I to take notes? Dere be a test after da lecture?"

Rovvigen recites softly:
"Sphere and Scythe is going to present the 7th installment of Tales of Divination. This time we will concentrate on the mysterious Dachres."

Rovvigen recites softly:
"One of the most experienced people I know will be showing us this method"

Rovvigen recites softly:
"He was the first person I have ever seen with a Dachre's box"

Rovvigen recites softly:
"Here to present this lecture and demonstration is Ordim. Please be respectful during his lecture. Drinks and snack foods are on the bar"

You hear someone grumbling.

Ordim suddenly fades into view.

Ordim glances at Rovvigen.

You growl at Ordim.

Rovvigen recites softly:
"I will now turn the floor over to him"

Speaking to Rovvigen, Ordim corrects, "Ordeamon."

Rovvigen bows to Ordim.

Rovvigen giggles at Ordim.

Ordim's Lecture

Ordim growls, "Food want learn about Dahcres?"

Ordim opens his mouth and traces his fangs with his forked tongue for a brief moment before letting loose with a series of eerie, fractured hisses that echo discordantly in the air.

Ordim nods slowly.

Mikalmas tilts his head toward Ordim, examining him intently as the tip of one ear twitches briefly.

Mikalmas walks over to the chair and settles down.

Wonkus says, "What a worrrld...what a wooorld..."

Wonkus swoons.

Ordim removes a gold-streaked black marble tablet from in his dark grey satchel.

Ordim points at the ground, a crown of writhing vipers upon his head weaving in undulating, sinuous movements as they stare at the spot indicated.

Speaking to Wonkus, Ordim says, "Falling Food sit still."

Ordim stares at Wonkus.

Ordim reaches up and casually picks between his ebony curved fangs with one of his scythe-like claws.

Ordim says, "Good ... Good."

Ordim says, "What is Dahcre? Food might ask."

Ordim says, "Is good question for Food to ask."

Ordim says, "Dahcre is very old language, older than even Ordeamons."

Ordim says, "Older than Elf Food."

Ordim says, "Perhaps even older than Arkati food."

Ordim says, "No food alive knows true meaning of Dahcre."

Ordim grins slowly.

Ordim says, "But some Food have put together little bits thought lost in time."

Ordim asks, "Food might ask, how they know what know?"

Ordim raises an eyebrow.

Ordim runs his scythe-like fingers through the crown of vipers upon his brow and caresses each serpentine body in turn.

Ordim says, "Answer is, from bits and pieces found."

Ordim indicates a gold-streaked black marble tablet as a possible option..

Ordim says, "Carved long ago, some tablets have many symbols on them... strange symbols."

Ordim says, "If Food know how to read tablet, can learn about Dahcres."

Ordim nods slowly.

Ordim touches the 'A' symbol on his black marble tablet and concentrates on it.

Ordim touches the 'NG' symbol on his black marble tablet and concentrates on it.

A wavering image forms in the air above the tablet that Ordim holds in his hand.

After a brief moment the image dissolves.

Ordim says, "Fang Dahcre one of many."

Mikalmas raises an eyebrow.

Wonkus furrows his brow.

Ordim touches the 'S' symbol on his black marble tablet and concentrates on it.

Ordim touches the 'B' symbol on his black marble tablet and concentrates on it.

After a brief moment the image dissolves.

Ordim says, "Sylvan Beast symbol ..."

Ordim glances at you.

In unison, the thirteen serpents that crown Ordim's head blink their deep heliotrope eyes.

Ordim says, "One of many."

Ordim grins slowly.

Ordim says, "Ordeamon not bore you with all symbols."

Ordim says, "Dahcres count more than forty amongst them."

Ordim says, "Each unique, like Food."

Ordim slithers around the area, his sinuous coils lashing about like a whip and snapping in the air.

Ordim asks, "But what Dahcre mean?"

Ordim points at Polveiss.

Speaking to Polveiss, Ordim repeats, "What Dahcre mean?"

Polveiss says, "Beats me."

Ordim nods once.

Ordim says, "Food not know, but Ordeamon know."

Ordim scythes his talons back and forth, their swift and sinuous movements mirroring the undulations of the serpents atop his head.

Polveiss plops down to the ground in a sitting position.

Ordim put a gold-streaked black marble tablet in his dark grey satchel.

Ordim removes a small red painted tanik box from in his dark grey satchel.

Ordim indicates a small red painted tanik box as a possible option.

Ordim says, "Each Dahcre painted and stacked in Dahcre box."

Ordim says, "Each Dahcre speak its own story."

Ordim says, "Some say Dahcre tell future and present."

Ordim turns to face Shisshio.

Ordim pulls out a Dahcre card from his deck and shows it to Shisshio.

Ordim sticks the card back in his painted tanik box.

Ordim grins slowly.

Shisshio asks, "The Seer?"

Ordim removes a gold-streaked black marble tablet from in his dark grey satchel.

Shisshio peers quizzically at Ordim.

Ordim says, "Food say "The Seer"."

Ordim says, "They see..."

Shisshio nods at Ordim.

Ordim touches the 'S' symbol on his black marble tablet and concentrates on it.

Ordim touches the 'R' symbol on his black marble tablet and concentrates on it.

A wavering image forms in the air above the tablet that Ordim holds in his hand.

                              )
                             (
After a brief moment the image dissolves.

Ordim says, "This Dahcre."

Ordim says, "Dahcre is always correct, and it say this house of Seers."

Ordim nods approvingly.

Mikalmas agrees with Ordim.

Ordim rubs his chin thoughtfully.

Ordim says, "Ordeamon forget to bring big book..."

Ordim says, "Big book now in Library of Twilight Hall."

Rovvigen softly says, "Ive seen this book."

Rovvigen smiles.

Ordim says, "Inside big book, Food learn about each Dahcre and what it might mean."

Ordim nods in agreement at Rovvigen.

Ryain says, "Ah hate books."

Ordim says, "Little food has read book."

Rovvigen softly says, "Very detailed as well."

Mikalmas grins at Ryain.

Ordim says, "When Dahcres used to tell future or present, Food might ask Dahcre holder question."

Ordim put a gold-streaked black marble tablet in his dark grey satchel.

Ordim says, "Dahcre holder will hear question and then show Food the Dahcre that is most appropriate, Dahcre chooses itself."

Ordim taps a small red painted tanik box, which is in his right hand.

Ordim raises his painted tanik box skyward!

Ordim says, "Many Dahcres also are linked to Arkati Food."

Mikalmas looks thoughtfully at Ordim.

Ordim glances at Wonkus.

Ordim points at Wonkus.

Ordim asks, "Fidgety Food, what Arkati is The Seer linked to?"

Speaking speculatively to Ordim, Wonkus asks, "That's easy. It's...weird...snake man...Arkati?"

Ordim squints at Wonkus.

Mikalmas gazes through the crystalline lens of his monocle, his eyes roving over every inch of Wonkus.

Speaking to Wonkus, Ordim asks, "Luukos?"

Ordim shakes his head at Wonkus and clucks his tongue.

Speaking to Ordim, Mikalmas says, "I can't tell."

Mikalmas gazes through the crystalline lens of his monocle, his eyes roving over every inch of Ordim.

Mikalmas says, "Hm."

Speaking to Ordim, Mikalmas says, "I can't tell for you either."

Mikalmas rubs his chin thoughtfully.

You say, "Jastev."

Ordim nods to you.

Wonkus says, "Maybe Gosaena! One of your...snake...runes looked like a goose."

Ordim says, "Either would work."

Wonkus says, "Everybody knows Gosaena is the patron arkati of geese. That's where she got her name."

Speaking to Wonkus, Ordim says, "Goose is good food."

Ordim traces the curve of his abdomen where it transitions to serpentine scales, his lips curling back in a fang-exposing grin.

You scowl at Ordim.

Ryain wistfully says, "Ah hear geese taste good."

You mutter, "You are unnatural."

Ordim says, "The Seer also tells people that outcome is predetermined."

Ordim says, "If someone ask "Will I survive the coming war"."

Ordim says, "And The Seer Dahcre is shown, then it is predetermined that Food will survive war."

Ordim says, "If Food were to ask "Will I die in the coming war?"."

Ordim says, "Then it is predetermined that Food will die."

Ordim nods slowly.

Ordim says, "If Food have to ask... then it is known even to them."

Ordim's Demonstration

Ordim asks, "Before Ordeamon talk more about Dahcres, perhaps brave Food like to get reading?"

Ordim says, "Maybe Food understand more."

Ordim surveys the area.

Rovvigen softly says, "Anyone may ask dont be shy."

Wonkus asks, "I think I understand. We have to...eat all the geese, and then everybody becomes immortal?"

Speaking to Rovvigen, Ordim asks, "Little food think other food is afraid?"

Wonkus furrows his brow.

Rovvigen agrees with Ordim.

Ordim surveys the area.

Rovvigen softly says, "Someone ask the Dachres a question for the demonstration."

Ordim taps a small red painted tanik box, which is in his right hand.

You raise your hand.

Ordim grins slowly.

Ordim walks toward you.

Ordim stares at you.

Speaking to you, Ordim asks, "Food ask Dahcres question?"

Ordim rubs a small red painted tanik box in his hand.

Ordim suddenly issues a deep, hissing laugh.

You ask, "When will Ordim receive justice for his crimes against me?"

Ordim gazes thoughtfully at his painted tanik box.

Speaking to you, Ordim offers, "We ask Dahcres together."

Ordim raises his painted tanik box skyward!

Ordim pulls a Dahcre card from his deck and shows it to you.
      .----------.
*        +
   . .

~ o
      `----------'
The card is labeled "Invisibility" in an archaic, looping script.
Ordim sticks the card back in his painted tanik box.

Ordim suddenly issues a deep, hissing laugh.

Ordim says, "Invisibility."

You growl ferociously!

Ordim suggests, "We show all what you see?"

Nytengale raises an eyebrow.

Ordim removes a gold-streaked black marble tablet from in his dark grey satchel.

You say, "Fine."

Ordim touches the 'I' symbol on his black marble tablet and concentrates on it.
Ordim touches the 'V' symbol on his black marble tablet and concentrates on it.

A wavering image forms in the air above the tablet that Ordim holds in his hand.
                             . .
                           . .
                          . .
                          . x .
                           . .
                             . .
After a brief moment the image dissolves.

Ordim put a gold-streaked black marble tablet in his dark grey satchel.

You say, "That is not what I saw."

Ordim says, "Invisibilty Dahcre..."

Nytengale asks, "A bullseye target?"

Speaking to you, Ordim says, "Perhaps Food saw same symbol on the card."

Ordim says, "When Dahcre form in air, is not have border."

Ordim suddenly issues a deep, hissing laugh.

You suspiciously ask, "Why doesn't it have the other symbols on the edges?"

Ordim says, "Invisibility, the answer or problem may be obscured from sight or unkown."

Speaking to you, Ordim confirms, "Because air not have edges, Food."

Wonkus exclaims, "He's right! It doesn't!"

Ordim nods approvingly at Wonkus.

Ordim says, "Loud Food understands."

You stiffly say, "Continue."

Ordim says, "So in question "When will Ordim receive his justice?"."

Ordim says, "Invisibility tells us that there is no justice in sight for the Ordim."

Ordim asks, "Perhaps question is flawed, and there is no reason for Justice?"

Ordim shrugs.

You mutter, "I really do not like the sound of that."

Ordim says, "Perhaps Justice is so far in future, that something different happen first."

Speaking to yourself, you whisper aloud, "Will just have to seek my own vengeance."

Ordim weaves his head back and forth, his body moving sinuously in a hypnotic fashion as he stares coldly around the area.

Ordim says, "Many not like answers from Dahcre, but Dahcre never wrong."

Ordim nods slowly.

Ordim grins at you.

You narrow your eyes.

Ordim takes a few steps away from you.

Ordim gazes mutely at his surroundings, his deep heliotrope pupiless eyes studiously watching every moving thing.

Ordim asks, "Any other questions for Dahcre?"

More Lecture from Ordim

Ordim rubs a small red painted tanik box in his hand.

Ordim says, "Ordeamon talk a bit more about Dahcre, then can ask questions."

Ordim says, "Dahcre found not only on cards or tablets."

Ordim put a small red painted tanik box in his dark grey satchel.

Ordim asks, "Maybe some Food have seen merchants that offer to put Dahcre on items?"

Ordim says, "Or maybe some Food very old and remember buy Dahcre."

Ordim removes a gold-flecked obsidian ball from in his dark grey satchel.

Ordim taps a gold-flecked obsidian ball, which is in his right hand.

Ordim shows his obsidian ball to Rovvigen.

Speaking to Rovvigen, Ordim asks, "You see Dahcre on ball ?"

Rovvigen grins at Ordim.

Rovvigen softly says, "I did see. The Seer."

Ordim shows his obsidian ball to you.

You see a glyph-like mark on the obsidian ball:
             )
            (
         {@} )
            ( {-}
             )
            (
"The Seer" is written below the mark in small, light writing.

Ordim says, "Many old items might be marked with Dahcre."

Ordim says, "Some grant power of Dahcre."

Ordim says, "Maybe make stronger, faster."

Ordim says, "Maybe make Food taste less bitter."

Ordim put a gold-flecked obsidian ball in his dark grey satchel.

Ordim says, "When Dahcre on item, that item might be more powerful."

Ordim says, "Some from Elven Food land might also run into Dahcres."

Ordim says, "In Elf Food Fortress is Dancing Dahcre Inn."

Ordim says, "Each table is different Dahcre."

Mikalmas asks, "That would be Ta'Vaalor I assume?"

Ordim says, "Designed to honor Dahcres and their wisdom."

Ordim nods at Mikalmas.

Ordim says, "Food call it Ta'Flavor."

Ordim nods in agreement at Mikalmas.

Rovvigen softly says, "Really, we should take a journey there for the Order someday."

Ordim says, "Not even builders know how old Dahcres are."

Ordim says, "Some old words written by old Food suggest Dahcres might be language of Drakes."

Ordim repeats, "Language of Drakes..."

Questions and Answers

Ordim says, "Food must have many questions, Ordeamon answer them now."

Ordim gazes mutely at his surroundings, his deep heliotrope pupiless eyes studiously watching every moving thing.

Wonkus raises his hand.

Ordim turns to face Wonkus.

Speaking to Wonkus, Ordim says, "Ask, Loud Food."

Wonkus puzzledly asks, "So...Dachre means gravy?"

Speaking to Wonkus, Ordim says, "There is no Gravy Dahcre."

Wonkus exclaims, "You keep talking about food and you said putting dahcre on food makes it taste better! That's gravy!"

Wonkus says, "..Or maybe you're just making me hungry."

Speaking to Wonkus, Ordim says, "Put Dahcre on Item, not food."

Mikalmas says, "I have a question."

Speaking to Wonkus, Ordim says, "Ordeamon will see you after Food, explain why call food food."

Wonkus squints.

Ordim turns to face Mikalmas.

Mikalmas asks, "Recently in my dreams, I have found myself at the base of a mountain. There are two sets of stairs. One ascends toward the clouds. THe steps are smooth and measured. The other descends down, rough and ragged and unpredictable. Which stairs do I take?"

Ordim narrows his eyes.

Speaking to Mikalmas, Ordim asks, "You wish to ask Ordeamon or Dahcres?"

You murmur, "Unpredictable is always better than safe and smooth."

Mikalmas says, "I wake up every time from indecision. I would prefer to hear what the Dachres say."

Mikalmas grins.

Ordim removes a small red painted tanik box from in his dark grey satchel.

Speaking to Mikalmas, Ordim asks, "Food ask Dahcres "which stairs take in dream" ?"

Ordim glances between Mikalmas and a small red painted tanik box.

Speaking to Ordim, Mikalmas says, "Sure."

Mikalmas nods at Ordim.

Ordim pulls out a Dahcre card from his deck and shows it to Mikalmas.

Ordim sticks the card back in his painted tanik box.

Ordim says, "Dahcres show "Ward"."

Ordim removes a gold-streaked black marble tablet from in his dark grey satchel.

Ordim touches the 'R' symbol on his black marble tablet and concentrates on it.
Ordim touches the 'D' symbol on his black marble tablet and concentrates on it.

A wavering image forms in the air above the tablet that Ordim holds in his hand.
                         {~  ~~  ~}
                          \ \/\/ /

                           (_/\_)
After a brief moment the image dissolves.

Mikalmas closes his eyes for a moment.

Ordim says, "Ward Dahcre speak of protection from problems or resistence."

Ordim says, "One might say "Take rough stairs down, and you will be safe"."

Ordim says, "Or maybe one might say "Take the safe path upwards, where there is no resistance"."

Mikalmas raises an eyebrow in Ordim's direction.

You say, "How ambivalent."

Ordim says, "Ordeamon say "Take path down, Ward Dahcre protect"."

Ordim nods once.

Mikalmas nods at Ordim.

Ordim put a small red painted tanik box in his dark grey satchel.

Speaking to Ordim, Mikalmas says, "Thank you."

Ordim asks, "Food have more questions?"

Rovvigen ponders.

You ask, "How did you get your Dahcre box?"

Rovvigen softly says, "I do not this evening but thanks."

Ordim turns to face you.

You say, "And why in the world do you appear - and smell - like...this."

(Darcena waves her hand up and down to encompass all of Ordim.)

Shisshio says, "Just here for this history on the Dachres."

Speaking to you, Ordim says, "Ordeamon find Dahcre box in pile of treasure reserved for winners of game of skill."

Ordim continues, "Game of skill come around once a month, many complain of game."

Ordim concludes, "Not many play, even less win."

Ordim says, "Ordeam win, Ordeamon win Dahcres, Dahcres talk to Ordeamon but not speak to all."

Speaking to you, Ordim asks, "What Ordeamon look like?"

Rovvigen softly asks, "Do they only speak to you or through you I should say?"

Speaking to Rovvigen, Ordim says, "Both."

Ordim says, "Perhaps Dahcres might help those that play game in Caligos tonight."

Ordim offers, "Pick Your Poison."

Rovvigen softly asks, "One might also say this is one of the earliest forms of divination in Elanthia, correct?"

Ordim looks thoughtfully at Rovvigen.

Speaking to Rovvigen, Ordim says, "Perhaps, if Drake used for divination. Is not know exactly when Food used Dahcres for divination."

Rovvigen nods at Ordim.

Speaking to Rovvigen, Ordim says, "Perhaps not incorrect to say so."

Ordim nods.

Ordim asks, "Food not have more questions?"

Conclusion

Ordim says, "Ordeamon thank Food for time and ears to listen about Dahcres."

Ordim says, "Ordeamon thank Sphere and Scythe invite Ordeamon to talk."

Ordim nods.

Wonkus exclaims, "Thanks, gravy snake king!"

Speaking to Wonkus, Ordim says, "Ordeamon thank Food for being food."

Speaking softly to Ordim, Rovvigen says, "We appreciate you coming out tonight to present the Dachres."

Mikalmas exclaims, "And we thank you for taking the time for us tonight, Ordim!"

Speaking to Wonkus, Ordim whispers aloud, "Keep close food, no running."

Rovvigen recites softly:
"Please give Ordim a round of applause please"

Rovvigen applauds Ordim.

You stiffly ask, "Must I?"

Mikalmas says, "Well, no, not if you don't want to."

Mikalmas grins at you.

You nod gratefully at Mikalmas.

Speaking to Mikalmas, you explain, "He did try to kill me."

Speaking to Ordim, Shisshio says, "Thanks for the history, I must be off."

Speaking to Wonkus, Ordim says, "Food put this on, taste better."

Look of Presenter

Ordim:

Through iridescent dark green haze, Ordim's features appear transformed into those of an abyran'ra. Thirteen chestnut serpents ring his head, bestowing him a full crown of the twisting vipers as they writhe back and forth in an undulating, hypnotic fashion. His pale, lidless eyes are devoid of pupils -- merely rippling with faint hints of deep heliotrope every few moments. Twin pairs of fangs peek out from beneath his thin lips, and the smoothness of his skin fades away into sleek scales below his abdomen, his lower body tapering into a massive, sinuous tail like that of a snake.
Ordim gazes mutely at his surroundings, his deep heliotrope pupiless eyes studiously watching every moving thing.
Ordim narrows his eyes.
