ASSESS is used by assess a target to determine a character's ability in combat against a creature, or their unarmed position in combat. Warriors can use it to determine certain properties about armor and weapons, while rangers can use it to determine resistances on an armor (see below). Sorcerers are able to use it to check the status of an animated dead. Clerics and Paladins can use it to determine whether an item is holy armament.

Help

Note: ASSESS alone requires a target and will not pull up this menu when typed by itself.

Note: APPRAISE also performs the same function.

The {creature} is too easy for the likes of you!

UCS

ASSESS UNARMED will list a character's unarmed position against all foes in the area.

Warriors

Warriors use ASSESS to determine the padding levels of armor, hits remaining on specialized armor fittings, and weighting levels of weapons. Utilizes the warrior's highest weapon skill for all weapon types.

Armor fittings
You notice that custom fittings have been added to the armor, making it incredibly resistant to slashing attacks. You estimate that the fittings will degrade away after seventy to eighty strikes.

Roundtime: 21 sec.
Weighting
You assess the longsword for structural weaknesses and strengths.

Careful examination indicates the vaalorn longsword has a base strength of 75 and a base durability of 190. You also determine the current integrity of the vaalorn longsword to be at 100.0%.

Checking out the longsword, it looks like it is decently weighted to inflict more critical blows than a normal weapon of its type.

[A bronze-tipped vaalorn longsword has a combat effectiveness rating of 6 points of Critical weighting. It has 0 of 20 services towards the next full rank of combat effectiveness.]

Roundtime: 22 sec.
Padding with partial services
You assess the armor for structural weaknesses and strengths.

Careful examination indicates the brigandine armor has a base strength of 64 and a base durability of 365. You also determine the current integrity of the brigandine armor to be at 100.0%.

Examining the armor closely, it looks like it is decently padded against critical blows.

[Some vultite brigandine armor has a combat effectiveness rating of 7 points of Critical padding and a 50.0% chance to have a combat effectiveness rating of 8. It has 10 of 20 services towards the next full rank of combat effectiveness. It has been serviced 10 times in this service window, which resets in 35d 20h 57m.]

Roundtime: 22 sec.

Until the appropriate training level is achieved, a warrior's results may be unpredictable, succeeding sometimes and failing at other times, even on the same weapon assessed multiple times in a row. So for younger warriors learning to ASSESS, they may not always realize when they are failing. However, people standing near them will almost always be able to note when the warrior's ASSESS fails. This distinction between success and failure is as follows:

3rd Person Messaging (Failure): Grugdak examines some old spiked reinforced leather closely, trying to determine how well it protects.

3rd Person Messaging (Success): Grugdak examines some old spiked reinforced leather closely, determining how well it protects.

Rangers

Rangers use ASSESS to determine the level and of ranger resistance on armor, as well as who put the resistance on the armor.

Careful examination indicates the grey leather has a base strength of 20 and a base durability of 285. You also determine the current integrity of the grey leather to be at 100.0%.
You examine the grey leather closely, lightly running your fingers over the material.
You sense that the leather is imbued with the magic of nature, and your fingertips detect the slightest presence of warmth along the surface of the leather. The imbued magic in the leather seems to offer a significant amount of resistance to its targeted element. The strength of the magic's aura suggests that the resistance could falter after a great number of strikes. You also sense that R leather was imbued with resistance by Regyy.

Cleric or Paladin

Clerics and Paladins can ASSESS an item to determine whether it is holy armament. Note that the in-game messaging describes this as "sanctified," which was the old name for this characteristic.

You assess the crosier for structural weaknesses and strengths.

Careful examination indicates the faewood crosier has a base strength of 25 and a base durability of 290. You also determine the current integrity of the faewood crosier to be at 100.0%.

You examine the faewood crosier closely, while silently praying for understanding. You sense that the faewood crosier has been sanctified for use by a Cleric or Paladin in the fight against the undead.
