The Night in a Nutshell

(By the nature of a discussion-heavy, free-for-all open forum sort of night, I recommend reading the full log as even the "nutshell" is fairly exhaustive. Nonetheless, here it is if you would prefer.)

Some Hendoran squires arrive, grunting and sweating as they carry a slate-topped table.  They bend, with their knees thankfully, and place it near the far wall then groan as they leave.
Some Hendoran squires arrive, carrying a large canvas map and hang it on a wall before leaving.
The map depicts a detailed image of the town of Wehnimer's Landing, from its cobblestone roads and flat rooftops, to its gates and northern and middle docks.  Various shops and locations are marked along the map, noting places of special interest or defensible positions.

The map depicts a detailed image of the Burrow Way tunnels beneath Wehnimer's Landing.  Some areas are left unfinished, with markers indicated collapsed tunnels or undiscovered locations.  Various trapdoors and entrances are noted throughout the tunnels, and referenced to their corresponding destination.
The map depicts a detailed image of the wide expanse of the Grasslands outside of Wehnimer's Landing, along with the woodland areas of the Lower Dragonsclaw forest and the Upper Trollfang.   Marked just south of town is the Hendoran Outpost, near a bridge crossing over to the Voln Monestary.

Lord Thadston just arrived.
Thadston twists his head slightly, cracking his neck.  He looks relieved.
Thadston says, "Who wants me to throw them out the window? To get it out of the way."
Thadston smirks.
Thadston says, "Good evening."
Speaking darkly to Thadston, Darcena mutters, "Throw yourself?"
Thadston smirks at Darcena.

Thadston says, "Oh good. They brought our table and map."
Thadston says, "They were salvaged from the town barracks."
Thadston scratches his fingernails across a wide slate-topped table.  Not cool.
Faerinn says, "Hello, I heard the Outpost was serving coffee."
Thadston indicates a cup of rich black coffee as a possible option.
Thadston writes something on a huge metal-framed slate hanging on a nearby wall.

Thadston asks, "Let's get to it then, shall we?"
Thadston says, "It's late. We're months behind."
Puptilian asks, "How updated are the tunnels on the map?"
Thadston shrugs at Puptilian.
Thadston says, "There's more tunnels we don't know about."
Cryheart asks, "Underneath here, the Landing, or all about?"
Thadston says, "So tonight, first, we should decide how to approach these four factions trying to stake a claim."
Thadston shrugs at Cryheart.
Puptilian says, "Always more tunnels.  I'm sure there has to be one running under the eastern wall we don't know about yet."
Thadston says, "I doubt the Rooks stopped."
Leafiara says, "In case you haven't been filled in, Goblyn and Magister Raelee seem to have successfully maneuvered around Barnom last night so that, at very least, he doesn't intend to attack at the moment. In case that matters in your choice of priorities."
Thadston nods at Leafiara.
Thadston says, "I heard some of it, aye."
Thadston says, "I also think it's foolish on Goblyn's part, and even more foolish if we hand over Vlashandra."

Speaking to Thadston, Goldstr says, "I would think, Sir, the Knave would be the first priorty."
Thadston asks, "Why do you think that Goldstr?"
Faerinn says, "Though what is left over from the other three factions joins Barnom after we defeat them."
Thadston nods at Faerinn.
Faerinn says, "Putting Barnom off runs the risk of him becoming an insurmountable problem later."
Speaking to Thadston, Goldstr says, "Cuz da rooks, blood cult, AND Barnom nae be dat active."
Goldstr says, "In harmin us at dis time."
Thadston says, "Except, we still don't know who the Knave is. We have ideas."
Thadston nods at Goldstr.
Thadston says, "The Rooks, we hit Mother."

Thadston says, "The blood cult, we hit that damn tower."
Leafiara pragmatically says, "The tower is the easiest to attack, a known location with fewer variables."
Thadston slowly empties his lungs.
Leafiara says, "Efforts to break into the tower have failed, but it might be possible to get them to lead us in by posing as initiates, captives, or a mix of both."
Thadston nods at Leafiara.
Speaking to Thadston, Lylia asks, "Why are we doing all the heavy lifting?"
Thadston says, "The Blameless let me into their ranks before. I am sure some here could play the part of a cultist easy enough."
Thadston asks, "What do you mean Lylia?"
Lylia explains, "Some of them have no love of one another. Why are we talking of who we intend to target instead of aiming one at the other and pitting them against their foes?"
Lylia continues, "If we are but one faction, then we are best served by forcing them to eat one another."
Lylia says, "Until we get to gobble them all up."
Thadston agrees with Lylia.
Faerinn says, "The only ones with any animosity to each other are the Knaves and Rooks."
Leafiara says, "The blood cult doesn't seem interested in anything but Stone, we've attempted to manipulate Barnom to no avail so far, and that leaves the Knave and Rooks--who have already been attacking each other night and day."
Thadston nods at Faerinn.
Thadston says, "The Knave and the Rooks want territory."
Thadston asks, "Cult wants blood, Lich wants, his town?"
Lylia says, "If they want the same thing, then they can be made enemies of one another."
Thadston asks, "So how do we pit Knaves against Rooks, and vice versa, but upping it more than it is right now?"
Leafiara says, "Frankly, I've been thinking lately that Mother likely needs her mask rather than wearing it merely for show. If we could expose her identity, that alone would probably disrupt the Rooks."
Leafiara explains, "Meaning... her identity might be a weakness which, if known, would cut off the Rooks from following her."
Thadston nods.
Thadston says, "Expose Mother, weaken the Rooks."
Thadston asks, "When was the last time Mother called on any of you?"
Thadston asks, "To help the Rooks?"
Speaking to Thadston, Leafiara says, "About last month, to get your statue."
Leafiara says, "Oddly enough."
Faerinn says, "The identity of the Knave is either Amos or Stephos. Stephos went missing so that leaves one option."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "Since before we caught a certain lady Slim wants back."
Thadston says, "Stephos missing doesn't rule him out."
Vaemyr says, "And after the statue, to get them hand pylons."
Thadston says, "He's a weasel. We know this."
Thrassus says, "When she tricked folk into attacking a Consortium caravan and giving the Rooks those pylons."
Speaking bluntly to Thadston, Leafiara says, "Being really, truly frank, I suspect Mother might be someone in your inner circle and would suggest watching closely. For a supposed nemesis, she seems far too interested in aiding you sometimes."
Faerinn says, "No, it doesn't rule him out, but it does make him less of a viable target at the moment."
Thadston says, "I am useful to the Rooks."
Leafiara recalls, "Disean, town evacuations... at least to a point... then the statue. No pursuit of vengeance after your night in the tunnels a few months ago."
Speaking to Thadston, Faerinn says, "You know Mother was using intelligence given to her by Walward when she planned that attack."
Speaking slowly to Thadston, Leafiara says, "That might be a little worrisome then."
Faerinn says, "Maybe he knows something about her."
Thadston says, "If I'm around, it's less they have to do."
Thadston says, "Right now, I assume they know they are the least on my list."
Thadston says, "Fortunately, I have no intentions of leaving a single name on my list."
Puptilian says, "Misdirection.  Let's be honest, the Rooks and Knave for now have kept each other in check.  We could make rumors we are going to attack both of them ignoring the cultist as the least worry only to base our real attack on the cultist hopefully catching them off guard."

Speaking hesitantly to Thadston, Bellaja says, "I have something that perhaps may be useful in contacting Mother."
Vaemyr says, "I agree with Thadston, the Rooks are doing exactly what Lylia suggested we try and do, they are playing us against their foes."
Thadston peers quizzically at Bellaja.
Bellaja removes a tiny red crystal rook amulet from in her beaded suede bag.
Thadston says, "We should have those hand-pylons. Not them."
Speaking to Thadston, Bellaja says, "I've kept this for years, not knowing if perhaps it would contact their secret network."

Faerinn says, "I think there is something there to dressing as Knaves and taking Mother. There is a poetic justice to it."
Thadston says, "I think, if we do any action regarding the Lich, it will be longer than tonight's discussion."
Thadston says, "...and we may be able to table the Lich for now."
Thadston says, "If he can be bought with his town. For now."
Speaking to Faerinn, Leafiara asks, "How would Rone and others know not to come after us if we did that?"
Speaking to Leafiara, Faerinn says, "We just tell Casi to stand down."
Thadston says, "I'll handle Rone."

Thadston asks, "What if we set a trap to capture Mother, and also plan an assault on the blood cult?"
Speaking to Thadston, Leafiara asks, "Simultaneously?"
Thadston says, "It would make sense."
Thadston nods at Leafiara.
Thadston says, "Perhaps."
Leafiara says, "If we were going to attack two simultaneously, I'd think it should be the Rooks and Knave, since as Puptilian 
mentioned, they're keeping each other in check."
Leafiara says, "Going after one first will tip the balance heavily in favor of one."
Thadston says, "My personal thoughts, are the blood cult offers the most promise of a first target."
Thadston says, "They have few allies among town."
Thadston says, "The Knave, and the Rooks, they are imbedded with some of our own people."
Thadston says, "We could cut down every blood cult member and sleep like babies."
Thadston says, "At least I could."
Speaking to Thadston, Soneiken says, "Thadston, Leafiara has the answer."
Speaking to Leafiara, Soneiken says, "Brilliant plan."
Speaking to Leafiara, Soneiken says, "No really, brilliant."
Thadston asks, "What plan is that?"
Speaking to Thadston, Leafiara says, "Disrupt the Rooks with a trap or somehing else to expose Mother, while focusing a heavy attack on the Knave."
Leafiara says, "Since as it stands now, they're keeping each other in check."
Leafiara says, "And heavy damage to one will tip things heavily in favor of the other."
Puptilian says, "And we are not ready yet to unbalance those two."
Leafiara says, "That can be before or after a strike on the blood cult, but I think the strike on the cult should be decisive and unified."
Thadston nods at Leafiara.
Thadston says, "Agreed."
Thadston says, "Unified against the blood cult."
Thadston says, "But before forming a wedge between the Knave and Rooks."

Speaking to Thadston, Vaemyr says, "If you do need some to pose as cult members to get inside and open the way, I would be happy to volunteer, I'm not exactly famously well-known and I think I could pass as an evil cultist well enough, just try to make it not TOO painful if you cut me down in the assault."
Faerinn asks, "Any kind of siege engines we might be able to rustle up for that Tower?"
Thadston nods at Faerinn.
Faerinn says, "We've only tried infantry so far."
Soneiken says, "We know the lich wants the prisoner, so we move her, then stage a fake kidnapping, and tell Barnom that the Rooks or cult kidnapped her, then he goes after them, at that point we tell another lie to the Rooks and so on, its brilliant."
Thadston nods at Vaemyr.
Thadston says, "It may come to that."
Thadston nods at Vaemyr.
Puptilian says, "I wish Captain Stormyrain was here tonight.  We need to make sure we cut off any possible communication between the cultist and Stone.  We don't want to take the chance of getting his attention yet."
Thadston says, "To help get us inside."
Vaemyr says, "Figured some of yall are pretty famous, might be a little suspect."
Speaking to Puptilian, Leafiara says, "Agreed, that's the lone risk in attacking them early."
Thadston says, "Well, we're not attacking tomorrow."
Thadston says, "So make it happen."
Thadston nods at Puptilian.
Speaking to Leafiara, Puptilian says, "I bet a few minds together can find a way to keep the cultist from communication for a short period of time...long enough to attack them."
Puptilian nods at Thadston.
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "I'll work with the captain to make it happen."
Leafiara says, "Speaking of illusion magic... if we want to lure the blood cult out of their tower, we might need either a way to quell their fires or a way to make it *appear* that we can quell their fires."
Thadston glances at Soneiken.
Thadston says, "So if we use Vlashandra as bait if you will..."
Thadston asks, "Anger the Lich into attacking another faction. Who?"
Speaking to Thadston, Soneiken says, "Vlashandra is the key to the whole puzzle."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "I rather leave the lich out of this.  Do we really want him to grow his army?  If we can do the attacking we can make sure enough Voln is around to limit what Slim can take from our attacks."
Thadston nods at Puptilian.
Thadston says, "Yes, we do run a risk, if we try to wield the lich as a weapon."
Thadston says, "Once he's sharpened, we could get cut too."
Faerinn says, "I'm not entirely convinced Barnom would lift a bony finger to stop Vlashandra from being sacrificed at the tower."
Thadston nods at Faerinn.

Thadston says, "So it would seem, the most agreeable actions so far, are striking the blood cult, then later doing some kind of assault or mislead that hurts both the Knave and Rooks."
Faerinn says, "Hit the Brass tower with a battering ram."
Thadston says, "We could attempt to leverage pylons against the tower."
Veramilion says, "Or infiltrating the cult's ranks."
Thadston says, "If our attempt of sneaking in some behind enemy lines does not work."
Thadston nods at Veramilion.
Puptilian asks, "Looks like one of the tunnels get close to the tower.  Can we finish the last of it and maybe surprise attack them?"

Speaking to Thadston, Geijon asks, "Which faction hates you th' most?"
Thadston says, "I don't care."
Thadston says, "This isn't personal."
Speaking innocently to Thadston, Darcena asks, "But perhaps you could be the bait for the one who hates you most?"
Thadston shrugs at Darcena.
Thadston says, "The Rooks could have left me to stay in my state."
Thadston says, "If Amos is leading the Knaves, he could have killed me already."
Thadston says, "If it's Stephos..."
Thadston shrugs.
Darcena says, "I think every one of these plans that involves any one of us deliberately and intentionally lying makes us no better than any of those factions that have taken over our town."
Thadston says, "We could work to help disrupt some of Amos' weapon deals."
Thadston begins chuckling at Darcena!
Thadston asks, "You're opposed to lying to defeat our enemies Darcena?"
Thadston asks, "The same enemies who blew up our barracks and murdered Khylon?"
Speaking seriously to Thadston, Darcena says, "Yes."
Thadston asks, "Are you insane?"
Thadston asks, "Or kissed by Zelia herself?"
Thadston peers quizzically at Darcena.
Speaking to Thadston, Darcena says, "And yes, I am opposed to lying indeed."
Darcena nods at Thadston.
Thadston turns away from Darcena, ignoring her.
Thadston asks, "When was the last time a war was won with flowers?"
Thadston peers quizzically at Darcena.
Darcena shrugs indifferently.
Thadston says, "...exactly."

Speaking to Thadston, Faerinn says, "A lot of the folks at that business deal in Zul Logoth seemed real uneasy about selling weapons to the Constortium. Might not take much to disrupt that."
Thadston nods at Faerinn.
Speaking to Thadston, Geijon says, "You act as if your opinion is held in high regard or you have authority to tell her she's wrong."
Thadston says, "Good idea."

Thadston says, "I'd argue my opinion is held quite high Sir Geijon."
Speaking to Thadston, Geijon asks, "Which version of your memory is that in?"
Thadston says, "They wandered an Ithzir plane to pull me home. They bled to pull a specter from my soul."
Thadston glances at Geijon.
Thadston says, "I think my opinion matters."
Thadston says, "I stand just as tall, but I don't need spurs for it."
Speaking to Thadston, Geijon says, "Indeed we did."

Thadston asks, "Is there anyone who disagrees we attack the blood cult first?"
Thadston says, "With a decisive, unified attack."
Speaking to Thadston, Pietra asks, "Would it matter if anyone did?"
Guarrin continues, "We know they feed the fire. We know a bit about Malluch. Surely there is a way to draw them out, or, as Pup mentioned go through the tunnels. Or, ideally, both."
Thadston glances at Pietra.
Speaking to Thadston, Pietra says, "I'd say that's a valid question."
Guarrin says, "Work on a way to weaken it, they will come flying out of that tower."
Guarrin clarifies, "It being that fire."
Thadston asks, "Can we poison the fire?"
Leafiara reiterates, "And even if we don't have a way to weaken the fire, we could use illusions to make it seem that we have a way."
Leafiara says, "Either would lure them out."
Guarrin says, "Yes, I liked that idea as well."
Leafiara thoughtfully ponders, "What would poison a blood fire?"
Thadston says, "Poisoned blood."
Thadston asks, "What do their fires do?"
Raelee takes a moment to observe Thadston.
Thadston grins at Raelee.
Puptilian says, "We can go retrieve a few creatures from the Bleaklands to grab their blood.  It's possible Stormy may be able to use it to poison the blood in that magic."
Leafiara says, "Their fires create elementals when people are sacrificed into them."
Thadston shrugs at Puptilian.
Thadston frowns at Leafiara.
Thadston says, "I wonder..."
Thadston looks down at the metal fragments wedged in the flesh of his arms.
Speaking to Thadston, Goldstr asks, "Dem Krod shards still cause pain er weakens ye?"
Thadston shrugs at Goldstr.
Speaking impatiently to Thadston, Darcena says, "You were wondering something."
Speaking to Thadston, Darcena says, "Out with it."
Thadston says, "Kroderine."
Leafiara glances at Cryheart.
Speaking to Thadston, Darcena asks, "From where?"
Speaking to Leafiara, Darcena asks, "And have you tried that yet?"
Leafiara agrees, "Kroderine plan does seem worth a shot if we could secure enough of it."
Thadston says, "My arms."
Thadston nods at Darcena.
Guarrin looks thoughtfully at Cryheart.
Tsarok quietly says, "Cryheart could roll around on the fire."
Speaking steadily to Thadston, Darcena asks, "And the side effects to you of removing it?"
Speaking dubiously to Thadston, Leafiara says, "Maybe Sir Cryheart with his full body armor would be better suited than *just* your arms."
Speaking to Cryheart, Guarrin asks, "Well. You are up. Feeling like a jump into some fire?"
Thadston says, "I wouldn't remove it."
Speaking exasperatedly to Thadston, Darcena repeats, "You wouldn't remove it."
Thadston nods at Leafiara.
Speaking to Thadston, Darcena asks, "What -is- this complex you have?"
Darcena says, "You say I'm kissed by Zelia."

Geijon says, "While the plan is overly complicated and far too complicated.."
Speaking to Thadston, Geijon says, "The blood cult would open the doors for you, I said as much earlier."
Thadston peers quizzically at Geijon.
Speaking to Thadston, Leifa asks, "Are you proposing that you have the power to interfere with that magic because of those...things...in your arms?"
Thadston says, "I think we should try to infilitrate their ranks first and foremost."
Thadston nods at Leifa.
Thadston says, "I am pondering, more than proposing."

Thadston says, "The kroderine gauntlets I got from Osment were quite powerful."
Thadston says, "They're now, more part of me than ever before."
Speaking darkly to Thadston, Draccor asks, "Isn't veil iron just as powerful as Kroderine?"
Thadston shrugs at Draccor.
Speaking to Thadston, Darcena snaps, "And what is your prognosis after this fire squashing?"
Thadston says, "The cult has spoken from time to time of a harvest, or their next harvest."
Lylia explains, "Vaemyr here already offered cogent reasons to be one with the Blood Cult."
Thadston shrugs at Darcena.

Thadston says, "Tilamaires evening, we'll try to infilitrate. We'll need some information gathered. Perhaps their next harvest, a potential way inside, something."
Thadston says, "We'll need some who are not widely known."
Thadston says, "Faces they won't easily recognize right away."
Thadston nods at Vaemyr.
Vaemyr says, "I still remember the thoughts in my mind from the last... harvest, I believe my mental strength can hold long enough to be accepted into their ranks and not completely lose myself."
Thadston nods at Lylia.

Thadston says, "We'll meet that night, and go from there."
Thadston says, "We'll need others available, in case things go bad, or we need to rescue anyone."
Thadston says, "Then depending on what is learned, we can plan an actual strike."
Thadston says, "I'll send word for some war machines."
Thadston says, "And we'll have pylons."
Quilthaias shows Thadston his hand-held pylon.

Thadston says, "In the meantime, if we make ground against the cult, keep thinking of ways to upend the Knave and Rooks. Capturing Mother can help."
Thadston says, "We'll also need some contingency plans for the Northern Armigers."
Thadston says, "In case they get handsy."
Speaking to Thadston, Leafiara says, "I agree."
Leafiara says, "Thankfully, at least their archery towers are quite far away from most territories..."
Thadston nods at Leafiara.
Thadston says, "That's it for this evening. We'll meet again soon as we work on our spy activity."
Thadston says, "Keep considering ways to help nullify those fires, or hamper them."
Thadston says, "I'd rather testing my arms be a last resort."
Speaking to Thadston, Leifa says, "We'll all be testing arms if this gets outta hand."

Speaking to Thadston, Geijon offers, "You have sacrificed much. I'd call it repaid as well."
Faerinn says, "I seem to have finished my coffee."

Idle Talk

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see the Meriedan disk, a large raven that is flying around, an amber-eyed tawny range wolf, the palm frond-shaped Leafiara disk, the Lowqon disk, a frustrated lake spirit that is flying around, the Shachath disk, a black-toed saddleback foxhound, the gold-dusted Atlee disk crowned with sylvarraend rubies, a forest wolf, a resplendent obsidian black raven that is flying around, a large acorn, the Bellaja disk, a pale-faced coppery barn owl, a bacon-wrapped blood pudding donut, the icy blue Spangles disk, a large acorn, a large acorn, a large sack, a large sack, a large sack, a sea blue leather rucksack, a heavy backpack, a heavy backpack, a heavy backpack, a heavy backpack, some golden brown elven waybread, some manna bread, some manna bread, a round silver-banded barrel, an herbal remedy donation bin, some stone benches with some stuff on it and obvious signs of someone hiding.

Neatly lined up on one side of the map are a set of miniatures depicting Hendoran troops and potential enemies. Near a small window rests an empty gilded birdcage. You also see a huge metal-framed slate hanging on a nearby wall, a set of large wooden doors and a long wooden table with some stuff on it.

Puptilian sarcastically says, "If only we had a Knight leading us...."

A sizable group of adventurers clash in fervent combat against red-robed acolytes, driving them away from blood red fires that several mages appear to be working to extinguish with varying degrees of success. Nearby, a second group of acolytes rushes captives toward a looming tower, exploiting a gap left in the adventurers' lineup because of their focus on the fires. In the distance, wounded combatants and panicked civilians flee the scene through the chokepoint of a blockaded bridge.

A thick, but plain, carpet runs the length of the hallway, muffling sounds and offering some escape from the hard surface of the building's stone construction. Two doors face each other, one to the south and the other to the north. The northern door appears to have magical sigils carved into its surface and runes painted above the entryway. The opposite, southern door is plain.

Pukk yells, "It wasn't me!"

Leafiara yells, "Does anyone need help out there?"

Vaemyr asks, "Vlashandra?"

Bellaja says, "Right. Not good to have an open meeting about spying."

Soneiken says, "Someone was spying I take it."
