This page collects player observations about how often the Illusions speed task is assigned at different ranks. It is based on one Sorcerer's logs (Fizzleworth) and has not been confirmed by staff. Please add your own numbers, especially from other ranks, Platinum, or demon types not listed here.

The speed task is the assignment to "see how many times you can successfully create your current illusion within a minute."

Summary

  • At Illusions ranks 34–48, about one assigned task in four was a speed task.
  • From rank 48 (the demon illusions), speed tasks became much rarer: about one in eleven.
  • At rank 53, while practicing on an Igaesha, no speed tasks were assigned at all (0 of 49). After switching to an Imp, the newest demon type available at rank 53, speed tasks came back at the lower demon-rank rate (3 of 40).
  • Nothing in game said the older demon type was the problem. There was no Arcane Master lesson at rank 53, no message from the Training Administrator, and nothing different in GLD.

Observed speed task frequency

All Illusions assignments from one character, 2026-10-07 to 2026-10-23, at the Wehnimer's Landing and Icemule Trace Sorcerer Guilds.

Ranks Current illusion Demon used Tasks assigned Speed tasks
34 Void (none) 8 2 (25%)
35–38 Shadow (none) 97 22 (23%)
39–43 Shadow (none) 58 17 (29%)
44–47 Shadow (none) 69 18 (26%)
48 Demon Igaesha 9 2 (22%)
49 Demon Igaesha 42 2 (5%)
50 Demon Igaesha 32 3 (9%)
51 Demon Igaesha 21 3 (14%)
52 Demon Igaesha 10 1 (10%)
53 Demon Igaesha 49 0 (0%)
53 Demon Imp 40 3 (8%)

The other assignments were split roughly evenly between audience, teach and learn tasks. Arcane Master lessons were rare: they came right after the promotions to rank 35 (shadow) and rank 48 (demon), and once at rank 45.

How unlikely these are by chance, assuming the 25% rate seen at ranks 34–47:

  • 9 or fewer speed tasks in 105 at ranks 49–52: about 1 in 85,000.
  • 3 or fewer in 40 at rank 53 with the Imp: about 1 in 240.
  • 0 in 49 at rank 53 with the Igaesha would be unlikely even at the reduced rate seen at ranks 49–52 (about 9%): about 1 in 80.

What this suggests

There seem to be two separate effects:

  1. Speed tasks are rarer at all demon ranks. Even at ranks 49–52, when the Igaesha was the newest demon type available, only about 9% of tasks were speed tasks, against about 25% at the shadow ranks.
  2. Practicing on an older demon type may stop speed tasks completely. At rank 53 (when Imp and Shien unlock), none were assigned while the Igaesha was in use. They returned as soon as an Imp was summoned.

Both are observations, not confirmed mechanics.

Practical advice

  • Keep your minor demon on the newest type your rank allows while training Illusions: Igaesha at 48, Imp at 53 (Shien, also unlocked at 53, hasn't been tested), Verlok at 54, and so on (see the demon list on the Illusions page). If speed tasks dry up right after a rank that unlocks a new demon, try summoning the new type.
  • Expect slower progress at the demon ranks. With fewer speed tasks, more of your time goes into trading teach, learn and audience tasks. Audience tasks are a better source of points at these ranks than they were before.
  • Task trading vouchers go much less far at the demon ranks. At about one speed task in eleven, it took around ten trades per speed task, against two or three at the shadow ranks. Guild Night (doubled points) makes the most of them.
  • The 15-minute wait after a trade is on your character, not the guild: switching to another guild doesn't skip it.

Things that didn't seem to matter

  • Which guild. Rates were low at both the Landing (Aerenis) and Icemule (Eiraen).
  • Guild Night or a normal night.
  • How tasks were traded: with vouchers (instantly), or with the normal 15-minute wait between trades.

Open questions

  • Does the "newest demon type" effect happen at other ranks that unlock a demon (54 Verlok, 55 Grantris, 58 Aishan, 60 Arashan, 63 Abyran and Grik)?
  • Does a Shien work the same as an Imp at rank 53?
  • Is the lower demon-rank rate the same for everyone, or does it depend on something else?
  • Are the rates different on Platinum, where audience tasks need fewer onlookers?

Method

The numbers come from client logs of one Prime Sorcerer. Every assignment from a Training Administrator ("…Repeat this N times.") was counted, along with the rank held at the time and the minor demon in use. Unwanted tasks were traded straight back in, so many assignments were only seconds or 15 minutes apart. Tasks were requested and traded with the normal ASK and TRADE commands.
