Midrian's Dyes

Midrian's Dyes is a shop in South Haven, around Solhaven, that sells dyes. It is on Changeling Lane, just west of the bathhouse. All dyes cost 500 silver.

Situated at an angle to either side of a polished oak door that leads to the street is a set of low tables covered with vials of dyes. A long glass front cabinet stands in the center of this quaint foyer and is flanked by arches, on the left and right, which lead further into the shop. Behind the cabinet, a long hallway terminates in a set of oak steps and is illuminated by evenly spaced wall sconces. You also see a low wooden stand with some stuff on it and a polished oak rack with some stuff on it.

Sunlight trickles through white lace curtains and reflects off of several bottles arranged in tidy rows upon a long table set under the window. Wide bookcases line the western wall, their shelves filled with bottles and vials of various shapes and sizes, while a carefully arranged oak bench sits at an angle to the northeastern wall.

Brass sconces are hung upon the oak walls of this windowless room, their soft light filtered through the frosted glass globes that rest upon them. Velvet upholstered chairs are situated to either side of a low oak table, which is covered with a pale blue linen cloth and a silver serving tray. Opposite the table setting is a colorful mannequin adorned with swatches of vibrant fabric and flanked by a pair of linen-lined bookcases displaying multicolored bottles, jars, and vials of dyes. You also see a small circular stand with some stuff on it.

Lining the entire northern wall is a long row of shelves set over a series of cast-iron stoves, where a young woman bustles about, quietly talking to herself. Copper and steel pots simmer, steam, and bubble upon the stoves, while nearby a vinegar distillery gurgles softly. A wide oak table rests beside a door leading into the garden and is topped with pestles, mortars, and dried plants. Opposite the door, exposed rafters display various dried herbs, plants, and barks above several casks and barrels.

Crushed white seashells create a slender track through the garden from the kitchen door to the back wall, where a large teaberry bush blooms. Green and red planters filled with monkeyflowers surround purple crocus plants potted in lapis-hued planters. Opposite the potted selection is a lower garden filled with plump beets, vines of purple eggplant, and rows of star-shaped nightshade wrapped in a vibrant border of yellow gorse. You also see a plank-sided shack.

Brass-framed wall sconces set with white tallow candles line the long expanse of this hallway, providing it with soothing illumination. A cotton runner, dyed in the traditional blue and silver of Solhaven Bay, covers the polished oak floor that leads to a set of steps to the north and the foyer to the south. You also see a glass-paned case with some stuff on it, a vibrant linen settee and a short oak table with some stuff on it.

Polished brass picture frames line the walls of a circular staircase that leads to a darkened landing above. Hand carved railings, fitted into polished oak slabs, show signs of recent polishing and are strung with a thin cord of rope suspending a small oak sign. You also see a sturdy wooden rack with some stuff on it and a maple three-tiered shelf with some stuff on it.

Sunlight slants across the room and illuminates several bottles of dye that are on display in this room. The light reflects off of the bottles, creating a colorful prismatic spray across the oak floorboards and walls. Several shelves are neatly hung upon the walls near a sturdy whitewashed door, while a low table and bench rest beneath the bay window set into the southern wall.

Squashed between the shop's tall walls and a three-story townhouse is a courtyard covered in creeping ivy. Granite cobblestones cover the uneven floor, their greyed surfaces displaying signs of regular bleaching. Dyeing stalls are built into the eastern and western walls, while a stone washbasin fitted with a cast iron pump rests to the north. A sturdy whitewashed door is framed in solid oak, its long sides holding in place a pulley system that supports a labyrinth of clotheslines.

Midrian's Dyes, Large Stall

Reserved for larger projects, this particular stall is long and fitted with an enormous tin tub. Wooden paddles, each baring residual traces of different dyes, are fitted into a long oak rack, which takes up the entire facing of the brick wall at the rear of the stall. Buckets of water stand beside a small step stool set at the edge of the tub, while a series of low shelves house neatly stowed tools. You also see a disgruntled clerk and a stone plaque.
