Honoring the Healers of the Green Death

> read parch
In the Common language, it reads:

On Volnes, day 25 of the month Imaerasta in the year 5123, Lady Athalia Aricia Malwind conducted court in her father Baron Dunrith Malwind's stead. During the proceedings, she gave a speech that she has asked me to share with you now.

Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed members of the Vornavian Court, I stand before you today humbled and deeply moved by the extraordinary efforts that have recently come to my attention. These efforts concern the formidable battle waged against the insidious scourge known as the Green Death a vile disease masterfully orchestrated into existence by the malevolent Scarlet Temptress, Niatha.

In the annals of history, we often find that acts of valor and bravery are most commonly associated with the clash of swords on the battlefield or the grand spectacles of knights in shining armor. However, let us not forget that true heroism takes many forms, and not all heroes bear shields or wield weapons. Often, it is the compassionate hands of healers that bring light to the darkest of times. It is with the utmost sincerity and gratitude that I extend my appreciation to the alchemists and their dedicated assistants who, under the ominous threat of the Green Death spreading its deadly shadow across our continent, rose to the occasion. They gathered precious supplies, labored tirelessly in their workshops, and, with unwavering determination, plunged into the fray of the afflicted and the weary, bearing hope and healing in their hands.

The enormity of their sacrifice and the magnitude of their accomplishments cannot be overstated. It would be an impossible endeavor to name each individual who worked tirelessly for this noble cause. Yet, it has come to our attention that some few names have traversed great distances, carrying with them the echoes of their deeds, reaching even the hallowed halls of the Vornavian Courts.

In this moment, I wish to acknowledge these exceptional individuals, whose actions have demonstrated the finest qualities of humanity selflessness, courage, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of our people. Their dedication to this cause has touched the hearts of many and stands as a testament to the strength of our united spirit.

As we reflect upon the heroic efforts that have brought us to this point, let us remember that it is in moments of adversity that the true character of a people is revealed. In the face of the Green Death's threat, we witnessed a remarkable display of unity, compassion, and resilience, one that rivals even the generosity shown to the refugees from Talador, Caligos Isle, and the Glaoveln.

Ladies and gentlemen, let us not forget the extraordinary contributions of these unsung heroes. They are the embodiment of hope, the guardians of life, and the healers of our world. Together, we stand united in gratitude and admiration for their noble deeds, which have illuminated our path through the darkest of times. While all we can do is offer this token of our appreciation, we hope that each individual will accept our undying gratitude. Those not present can expect to receive mail later this week.

We are pleased to honor those who took the initiative to create, administer, and coordinate cures for the Green Death with the Grenhal Thaumaturge Award.

The Grenhal Thaumaturge Award is a prestigious honor established to commemorate the enduring legacy of the late Grenhal a healer, nursemaid, and unwavering guardian of the esteemed House of Malwind. This award serves as a tribute to Grenhal's unwavering dedication to the well-being and care of the Malwind household and her selfless service to the people of Elanthia.

Grenhal, in life, embodied the true spirit of healing and compassion. Her nurturing presence and boundless wisdom touched the hearts and lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her tireless efforts in the pursuit of healing, whether through magical arts, alchemical expertise, or the vast reservoir of knowledge she possessed, left an indelible mark on the continent of Elanthia.

Tragically, Grenhal was the first victim of the malevolent Scarlet Temptress, Niatha, who unleashed the insidious Green Death upon our lands. Her sacrifice and untimely departure from our midst underscore the gravity of the challenges we face in our world.

In recognition of Grenhal's unwavering commitment to the healing arts and her unyielding dedication to the welfare of Elanthia's inhabitants, the Grenhal Thaumaturge Award has been instituted. This prestigious award serves as a beacon of light and hope, celebrating those individuals who go above and beyond in their tireless efforts to bring the gifts of healing to our continent.

Recipients of the Grenhal Thaumaturge Award are exemplars of compassion, knowledge, and the extraordinary capacity for selflessness. They are healers, alchemists, and practitioners of the magical arts who channel their talents and expertise toward the betterment of all who call Elanthia home.

In bestowing this honor, we not only pay homage to Grenhal's memory but also celebrate the boundless potential for good that exists within the healing arts. We are reminded that even in the face of adversity, the healers of Elanthia shine as beacons of hope and comfort, offering solace to those in need.

The Award

a black-tipped white swan feather wrapped in Vornavian silk

> look feather

Wrapped in emerald green Vornavian silk, the shaft of the swan contour feather is tied with several pure white stripes of rawhide that are beaded in tiny firestone, aquamarine, smoky quartz, and moss agate periapts. Side-by-side azure paints traverse the snowy white vane, the blue hue offering a subtle contrast to the opalescence of the rachis, which thins as it reaches the black-dipped tip.
