Phoenatos 5126

Runs:

• Southern leg: 3. Out second, in ninth. Out eleventh, in twentieth. Out twenty-second, in thirty-first. Northern Caravansary, Hangman's Bridge, Vornavis Caravansary, Peasant Holdings, Marshtown, Solhaven & South Haven each time. Gate of Vornavis each time, handoff only

• Near country: 5. Hendoran Outpost tenth & twenty-first. Voln monastery twenty-first, same day. Northern Caravansary twenty-fifth, half a day. Darkstone settlement, twenty-sixth to twenty-seventh

Account:

Against last month:

• Darkstone settlement will not receipt. Last month the camp quartermaster signed for everything without discussion. This month he says he cannot sign for the Barony because there is a question in Tamzyrr whether there is a Barony, & he will not put his name to a thing that may not exist. Volume to that camp is up by one-third on last month.

• Halvers at Vornavis Caravansary has stopped forwarding Merchant Guild freight onward. Last month he took it without comment. I asked him straight on the first run. He says he has not been paid since Charlatos & will not carry us on credit twice. Two of ours had the same from him.

• Water between Northern Caravansary & Cairnfang has cut a new channel, west of the stones. Chest-high at my first crossing, thigh by the fourth, ankle by the sixth. It is falling, so it looks harmless now. It is not - at next rain it comes up west of where a man expects it. I recommend rerouting.

Exceptions:

• Second & third southern runs came in two days over, each. Both are Halvers & I would not leave Hall freight with a man who is not forwarding, so I carried it to Solhaven myself. Desk may take four days from my claim if it judges that wrong.

• Peasant Holdings, sealed packet refused: the holding is worked but the man named on it has gone. Neighbor says he is not dead, only gone, but gives no new address. Packet returned with this.

Asked of desk:

• Person at the Darkstone settlement whose signature the Hall will accept while question in Tamzyrr is open. Until there is one I am carrying parcels I cannot discharge.

Standing entries:

• Sealed items for inside Vornavis are handed at the gate, receipted by watchmen whose names I do not have & could not use. I cannot enter the city & this will not change. Seals are intact when they leave me. After the gate it is not mine & I cannot say. Ninth month I have written this.

• Northern route went to Marven while I was south. I am not disputing it. I would like it back when I am next standing.

• Town: twenty-ninth to month's end, inside the walls, not fit for the road

Against last month:

• Halvers at Vornavis Caravansary is forwarding Merchant Guild freight again. He says the Guild has settled what it owed him since Charlatos. Took ours without comment.
• Channel west of the stones near Cairnfang: dry at both crossings. Rains have not come. Recommendation to reroute stands.
• Darkstone settlement still will not receipt. The question in Tamzyrr is still open & the quartermaster still will not put his name to it. Volume to that camp is up again, nine against last month's seven. Last month's seven went back out with this month's nine. All sixteen returned to desk on the twelfth, before I went east.
• Town: moulis reported at night since the oak in the square woke. None seen by day on my routes.
• Aradhul bridge further on coming back than going out. The ferry at the ravine is the slow part of the leg, not the road. Caravans carrying crates for the works split their loads to cross.
• Hall's sheet for the road below the pass is older than the map sold in the gnome enclave under Ta'Vaalor. They disagree on two forks. Marked on my copy of the sheet.
• Workers at Aradhul have learned I carry post. More letters now go out of that camp than packets come in.

Exceptions:

• Southern run came in a day over. Return packet wanted a seal from a Solhaven clerk not back in the freeport until Phoen's hour. Waited.
• Eastern run, going out, caravan held at the ravine for its load. Packets had dates. Went ahead by the climb, packets in oilcloth. Seals intact. Crates came on with the caravan after. Met it at the works & saw them receipted.
• Missed standing twenty-fifth to twenty-seventh. Fever, caught in convoy coming west. Three days abed. Healer's note enclosed, signed by my father.
• Eleven sealed for town addresses, returned. Nobody now answers at those doors. Neighbors say they went to the bay on the twenty-sixth. I did not leave them with neighbors.

Against last month:

• Sealed coming into Landing is up by half on last month.
• Since the twenty-sixth of last month I have marked each door that no longer answers on my copy of the town sheet. Two other runners have begun marking theirs on it. It stands at sixty-four doors. I know of no other record of which houses are empty.
• Darkstone settlement still will not receipt. A clerk of the Emperor's inquiry now sits at the camp. He asked to see my tally for the settlement entries, & how many unreceipted parcels have gone back to the Hall since Phoenatos, & who sent them. I told him the tally is the Clerk's to show. He said he would ask at the desk. His name & commission are in the sealed note enclosed.

Exceptions:

• Eighteen sealed & three purses for town addresses, returned. Nobody answers at those doors. Neighbors who remain will not sign, & on some streets there are none. With last month's eleven that is twenty-nine sealed from my bag alone.
• Four spoken for town could not be said, the person being gone. Nothing of them is on paper.
• Eastern run, receipts for one day at the Aradhul works are timed an hour late. Works clerk could not find his seal. Found on his person.

Asked of desk:

• Who is to have the marked town sheet. It is drawn from sealed addresses & I will not hand it to anyone on my own word. Families are asking at the desk, the militia may want it, & the town has no mayor to give it to.
• What the Hall's rule is for sealed items, purses & spoken messages addressed to those who went to the bay. Nobody has declared them dead, so nobody can sign as heir.
• Whether I go on carrying to the Darkstone settlement while the inquiry's clerk is at the camp, & what I am to do with my tally if he asks again.
• How letters from the Aradhul workers are to be logged. Second month asked. Until told, I count them here.
• Sealed items for Guardian Keep at Ta'Vaalor are handed at its door. The Keep is for citizens only. The Legion gives name, rank & company on every receipt, so it is the better receipt of the two.
• Runners for the eastern leg. Second month asked.
