Elidal on the Way
Glistening flakes of snow descend from the sky.
[OOC note: jumping ahead about 40 minutes, as life struck for Kenstrom]
[Town Square Central]
This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see a grizzled giant purple squirrel with onyx black eyes, a dejected lake spirit that is flying around, the Glanzfaust disk, the web-draped Missoni disk, the repousse copper Perigourd disk raised in leafy designs, a lazy wild reddish-black dog, an excited will-o-wisp spirit that is flying around, a crackling fire, a yellow-eyed silvery lor mandrake, a large acorn, the Broadfuguis disk, a short-taloned caracara, the Gonzy disk, a gargantuan cloudy grey tiger, the Coins disk, a red-eyed highland serval, the Demanec disk, the Trackesh disk, the Seagle disk, the Scram disk, the Khoal disk, the fiery red Grouk disk, an animated troll-claw hovering in mid-air, an emperor penguin, the Tevlesh disk, a resplendent obsidian black raven that is flying around, the sparking Dendum disk, the Gutstorm disk, a fluffy white cat, the malachite Jadedragan disk, a dolorous wasteland spirit that is flying around, a black-toed saddleback foxhound, a pale-faced coppery barn owl, the Alosaka disk, the Guarrin disk, a silver-tipped smoke grey wolf, the glossy pink Nyaria disk shaped like a jellyfish, a melancholy mountain spirit that is flying around, the flaming Nairena disk, the Guennwhfar disk, a white-eyed air wyrdling, a large acorn, the Kelfyr disk, a grizzled porcupine, the drake-incised Draelor disk, a massive grey wolf, the Yardie disk, an ideal glittering onyx origami thorn, an ornamental glittering onyx origami thorn, a sinuous bone white serpent that is sitting, an opalescent glass jar, an opalescent glass jar, a large acorn, a black-footed forest wolfhound, an old well, some wide stone benches with some stuff on it, an herbal remedy donation bin and a round silver-banded barrel.

[General] Zhagen exclaims, "Good morning!"
Speaking to Kothos, Thrassus says, "He heard you were leaving."
[General] Elidal asks, "Has a location been decided upon for tonight's...discussion?"
[General] Nyaria thinks, "Its pretty cold out here this late eve."
Speaking heartily to Scram, Khoal says, "We will sail out of this nasty place soon."
Kothos says, "Well. I have not yet laid eyes upon him, perhaps I could starve off sleep a few moments longer."
Vaemyr asks, "So where we meeting?"
[General] Kiyna thinks, "Closer to greeting the sun than saying farewell to it, but yes, good evening."
Speaking to Thrassus, Kothos says, "Or now he'll hear I'm staying and wander back into the tents."
Queatus asks, "Me?"
Evia says, "Uuuhm somewhere cozy."
Speaking to Kothos, Thrassus says, "Perhaps."

[General] Evia thinks, "Cozy, with snacks is good."
[General] Elidal thinks, "I shall be along to Wayside Inn then in a few moments."
Vaemyr says, "Wayside it is."
[General] Nairena thinks, "The Rusty Cutlass!'."
Nalver says, "Wrong thingy."
[General] Kothos thinks, "I would suggest the Stone Baths, there's always a lovely fire in there."
Cryheart says, "Ok..leaving for Wayside."
[General] Dendum thinks, "Do hear those of the empire love the Cutlass."
Queatus says, "Wayside is good too."
Cryheart says, "Moving out in three."
Cryheart says, "Moving out in two."
Markx exclaims, "One!"
[travel]
[General] Thrassus thinks, "I suggest NOT going to the cutlass."
[Wayside Inn, Dining Room]
This ramshackle hostel bears the signs of rough use by hard-bitten travellers and headstrong adventurers. Several blade-scarred tables and low stools are lined up against the walls, while the central area is dominated by a large firepit around which is a low platform covered with a few ratty bearskins. The clatter of clay tankards and the smell of humble victuals provide some small comfort to the steady stream of wayfarers who pause here to meet and greet one another. You also see a steep stair and some inviting tables.
Kelfyr says, "I'm already worried for the poor waitstaff."
[General] Evia asks, "Why?"
[General] Celtar thinks, "I agree with Thrassus, sounds like a silly place."
Cryheart says, "They need sticks to start a fire here."
Speaking to Kothos, Lylia says, "I would have preferred the baths myself."
Speaking to Cryheart, Nalver says, "I can do something neat."
Speaking to Lylia, Kothos says, "They have a fine selection there, of all sorts of delights."
Nalver says, "Watch this."
Lylia says, "A delicious assortment of fresh fruits."
Speaking to Lylia, Kothos says, "The jasmine scent for you, I feel. Oh, yes, the fruit, too."
Dendum asks, "Where Pukk?"
Speaking to Dendum, Tikba says, "He said he needed rest."
Speaking to Dendum, Leafiara says, "Went to sleep, it seems."
Dendum says, "Twice in one night Pukk has been the wise one."
Evia says, "Sleep, what in the heck..who does such."
Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "Me feelin clotterphotic."
Nalver says, "Ohh."
Nalver says, "I see."
Speaking to Gutstorm, Lylia says, "It is rather close quarters in here."
Nalver says, "Don't seem to work in here." [he had sticks to light a fire]
A deep growl rumbles in Nalver's chest as he slices his hand through the air, cutting invisible runes.
Nalver channels at a stone fireplace.
Nalver hurls a stream of fire at a stone fireplace!
The stone fireplace glows with a warm aura then quickly cools off.
[General] Kelfyr thinks, "Food's good though."
Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "Need two shtick."
Speaking to Evia, Nalver says, "Take the second one."
Cryheart says, "They still dinnae work it seems."
Geijon says, "Always fond of Waysides, mostly."
(OOC) Vaemyr's player whispers to the group, "I suspect attack of the kids part two has happened."
Speaking to Geijon, Falvicar says, "And it's not WAY over there by Thrak's."
Kothos says, "A nice fire. An odd inn, though."
Kothos says, "One that serves no drinks or food."
Kothos says, "...or appears to have rooms."
Jiarine asks, "Would Hearthstone not be a better option?"
Nyaria quietly says, "But it is warm, and everyone is allowed in."
Kothos says, "It is warm, yes. And for that I am grateful."
Geijon says, "It was outside town, I came from th' Mountains."
Tikba amusedly says, "And it is by the way."
Kiyna says, "At Hearthstone, not all are allowed in. Unless we want to stand out in the cold again."
Jiarine says, "Now we are just stuck together without a fire and there are far to mant wet, stinky people pressed together."
Dendum says, "Would have said Thrak but...well..."
Jiarine says, "There IS a porch."
Dendum says, "SOME people are not allowed in."
Kelfyr says, "At least this Inn respects the freedom of movement."
Speaking to Dendum, Rasson says, "Does seem to be an attack on rangers."
Lylia says, "It is the first place I visited when I arrived here, and I was taken upstairs to meet some friendly local lordling. At the time I was unfamiliar with the Landing and assumed this man owned the inn itself, perched as he was upon its furs."
Evia says, "No one is making us be here, we could simply relocate, and see who follows."
Kothos asks, "And did he?"
Nalver says, "What about the Abandoned Inn."
Nalver says, "Big fireplace there."
Kothos says, "I've no idea who owns this place, in truth."
Lylia says, "No, he was rather ordinary in most ways. Although extraordinarily pleasant."
Speaking lightly to Nalver, Tikba says, "Nobody goes there."
Speaking to Rasson, Vaemyr says, "Magic users too, or anyone with anything made of illthorn."
Speaking appreciatively to Nalver, Leafiara says, "Now that's the kind of talk I like to hear."
Kelfyr says, "I think if Cryheart gets to close to the crystal, we all explode."
Nalver says, "I don't know why we are looking for fires."
Cryheart says, "Close enough."
Speaking to Vaemyr, Kothos says, "I have a kohl pot made out of blackthorn. It's apparently spreading propaganda."
Cryheart says, "Went to the Hanging Inn of ole one time to hae my kroderine plate inspected by the crystal there."
Irval says, "One has to think Though. If the Thrak and all his wisdom decides to bar certain individuals with affilation to the Thorns. You need to ask yourself if you are falling on the right side of the line in these things."
Irval says, "All im saying."
Cryheart says, "Blew me across the room..and the crystal went dark."
Nalver says, "There's a hut over in my Dukedom that has a fireplace."
Introductions
Lord Elidal just arrived.
Speaking slowly to Irval, Dendum inquires, ""You think...talking head...controls inn?"
Elidal smiles.
Speaking to Cryheart, Perigourd says, "As long as there were no dents."
Kelfyr says, "For the best avoided then."
Cryheart says, "None."
Speaking to Elidal, Lylia says, "Good evening to you."
Elidal smiles.
Elidal bows.
Elidal says, "Good evening....morning..."
Cryheart says, "Good evening, Lord Elidal."
Missoni cheerfully greets, "Lord Elidal."
'Elidal gazes in wonder at his surroundings.
Speaking to Irval, Rasson says, "All thing thorns is going too far, I have wore thorns before it was cool."
Speaking to Elidal, Mourdeyan says, "Evening Lord Elidal."
Speaking to Elidal, Evia says, "Welcome to this lowly cold, inn."
Tikba politely greets, "Elidal."
Elidal says, "You'll have to forgive the delay. Some of the young settlers needed a story or seven to sleep."
Speaking quietly to Irval, Nyaria says, "There are many unaffiliated, but simply like have have liked thorns. and then there are the rangers."
Elidal smirks.
Falvicar asks, "Or seven?"
Elidal says, "They are spoiled, in many ways."
'Elidal nods at Falvicar.
Speaking respectfully to Elidal, Kothos says, "Greetings, Lord Dhenin. I'm Brother Blud, of Vipershroud."
Elidal bows to Kothos.
Speaking lightly to Elidal, Tikba says, "You must bring them to the meeting next time, as Samfelt came to the last one."
Speaking to Elidal, Rasson asks, "Did you tell them the one of guards locking people out of places?"
Speaking quietly to Elidal, Nyaria says, "As they should be."
Speaking to Elidal, Nalver asks, "Is the baron sleeping, then?"
Elidal says, "I do not know that story well."
Elidal nods at Rasson.
Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "Ahhh kids will be kids I guess, good that you have time currently to see to them."
Elidal nods at Vaemyr.
Rasson says, "I just learned it today."
Elidal says, "The hour is late. Formalities are more of a Malwind thing...."
Elidal asks, "So shall we begin?"
Elidal smirks.
Nyaria quietly asks, "Did you perhaps tell them that the very people that protect this town, are now locked out of warm accomidations?"
Speaking to Elidal, Sunwu says, "'Ventually, they won't wanna listen to yer stories an' you'll give anythin' jus' to read one more."
Mourdeyan says, "Please yes."
Elidal says, "I would ask that we all be respectful and civil."
Elidal says, "There's no needs for sharp blades or sharper tongues. I am here to listen more than anything."
Speaking in Guildspeak, Bellaja says something you don't understand.
Speaking to Elidal, Kothos says, "I have a ten-year-old, myself. She's likely off playing with her unicorn, and not sleeping peacefully as I left her. All my sympathies."
Speaking to Kothos, Perigourd says, "The unicorn could possibly help with the sleeping."
(OOC) Geijon's player whispers to the group, "Bleh."
Speaking to Perigourd, Kothos says, "She's picked up some sneaky habits. It's what they do."
Speaking to Elidal, Queatus asks, "Did you have anything to say to us?"
Elidal says, "I am aware the Black Thorns rallied far and wide in Wehnimer's Landing...and ahem...Icemule...to try to push a vote from the local officials to the people to formally denounce the protectorate status of the town."
Queatus says, "We did."
Elidal says, "The Mayor, in fiery words, denied such a notion."
Nyaria quietly asks, "Protectorant?! from a thorn?"
Elidal says, "The wisdom in that is neither here nor there, and not up for debate."
Elidal says, "But I have heard the Thorns wish to speak, to have a voice heard, and have tried to set themselves apart from the likes of the Brotherhood of Rooks."
Elidal says, "So I am here...to listen. But to keep us organized...since it is late...and there are so many of us here..."
Queatus says, "We wear no masks."
Jadedragan says, "I am proud of standing for this, in the open for all to see."
Queatus asks, "Shall I begin then?"
Elidal just opened the ivory parchment list for 40 signups.
Queatus adds his name to the ivory parchment list.
Elidal says, "Sign ypur name to the list. Some of you are no stranger to that."
Elidal smirks.
(OOC) Vaemyr's player whispers to the group, ""join list" if I remember."
Jadedragan adds his name to the ivory parchment list.
Nalver asks, "What's this list?"
Speaking to Nalver, Vaemyr says, "For speaking."
Jadedragan says, "Those that wish to speak."
Elidal says, "To be able to speak, ask a question, make a comment..."
Elidal nods at Nalver.
Nyaria quietly asks, "For a more orderly discussion?"
Elidal says, "So there is some measure of order."
Lylia slowly explains, "You put your name, or an "X" if you are incapable, and then you may speak while the rest of us remain politely silent."
Leafiara asks, "This is for the Thorns specifically, or for all present?"
Elidal says, "Any present. It's dangerous to begin to give preference to only certain voices."
Elidal nods at Leafiara.
Speaking to Lylia, Xorus says, "I enjoy being able to maintain that ambiguity."
Leafiara nods understandingly at Elidal.
Speaking to Leafiara, Rasson says, "Should put your name on the list and ak that."
Elidal says, "Well, two names so far. Maybe this will not as long.."
Elidal grins.
Queatus Speaks
Elidal says, "Queatus."
Leafiara mentions, "Around here, usually more names get added depending what the earliest ones say."
Queatus nods at Elidal.
Queatus says, "What I want to say is this. This is not about hating the Empire. The Empire, within it's borders, is fine. There are many fine Imperial citizens."
Elidal nods at Lylia.
Queatus says, "The settlers, they are welcome, as settlers always are here. Even the nobles, like you, Elidal, are welcome here.... what is not welcome is your banners, your borders, and your Imperial authority."
Queatus says, "The North is free. That's what this is about."
Queatus says, "This world is full of empires. Places where kings and nobles rule and some are placed before others because of their birth."
Ceilia adds her name to the ivory parchment list.
Kezoku says, "I hope people can hold their questions if they didn't get on the list."
Queatus says, "The parts of this world where free men elect their leaders and live in equality is vanishingly small, and you are making it smaller."
Queatus says, "And this cannot be allowed."
Queatus says, "That's all there is."
Elidal turns an inquisitive ear toward Queatus.
Queatus nods at Elidal.
Queatus says, "That's it. Waiting to hear what you have to say about it."
Elidal says, "If I may propose a question then...or a series of them to understand your point better from your perspective."
Queatus says, "Sure."
Elidal says, "You say it cannot be allowed, but you have no more authority in that matter than you claim I do to claim the land within the new borders."
Queatus says, "I have no authority."
Queatus says, "I only have the will to fight."
Elidal says, "But let us entertain a future where the Barony exists...."
Elidal asks, "What are your concerns?"
Elidal peers quizzically at Queatus.
Queatus says, "First."
Elidal asks, "What infringement would occur upon your lives or others?"
Queatus says, "You will consume the city eventually."
Elidal says, "Speculation."
Elidal nods at Queatus.
Queatus says, "I can speculate."
Elidal says, "No, you can't. Let us be honest."
Rasson asks, "Um locked out of places because of your atire or spells?"
Elidal says, "I am no more likely to consume your city than the Faendryl Enclave after 2000 years and we are both buried, dust and forgotten."
Queatus says, "And I don't believe you."
Queatus asks, "Why are you here?"
Queatus says, "You've already brought death with you."
Queatus says, "And you've only just arrived."
Elidal asks, "You mention we will consume your city. That is speculation, so we will agree to disagee. What else do you suspect bad occurs from this all?"
Queatus says, "Take you pick, you cut down the forests, you cut off our inland trade."
Queatus says, "You are doing something in Darkstone."
Archious whispers something to Queatus.
Elidal says, "To assign the birth and threat of Gnul to my presence and our settlers is unfair. One could also argue the danger of Gnul pales in comparison to the threats of Grishom Stone, Barnom Slim, Tyrrax the Warlord, and the list goes on. All of which transpired before my arrival."
Speaking to Elidal, Queatus says, "All of which we weathered."
Speaking to Elidal, Queatus says, "And Gnul rose because of you."
Elidal asks, "But the threat of Gnul is wholly upon my shoulders?"
Queatus asks, "Is it not?"
Elidal says, "Again, speculation. Of course, they are his words, and his accusations, but monsters will be monsters. They will find any and all manner of excuses to wreck havoc."
Queatus asks, "I supposed they are new monsters?"
Queatus asks, "They sprung out of the ground?"
Queatus says, "We have coexisted for years."
Speaking to Queatus, Irval says, "Caves more probably. Or stone huts."
Queatus says, "That's a stretch."
Elidal says, "I would hardly consider Wehnimer's Landing and Stone Valley's relationship and status as co-existing."
Elidal says, "You both butcher each other weekly. Some even get hired by a Guild to do so."
Nairena says, "Very true."
Queatus says, "We never had catapult loads of civilians tossed over the walls."
Elidal says, "Untrue."
Queatus asks, "You really are going to accept no responsibility and claim to be a leader?"
Elidal says, "The monster Drangell, during his siege of trolls against Wehnimer's Landing, launched bodies via catapults into your town, some nine years back."
Queatus says, "So you've studied your history."
Elidal says, "And truthfully, such a horrible, horrible action, is more of a reason that Gnul is the enemy worth your efforts and time, not me."
Elidal nods at Queatus.
Tikba adds her name to the ivory parchment list.
Queatus says, "Gnul is the enemy, this is true."
Queatus says, "But so are you if you insist on this path."
Elidal says, "The Earl tasked me with this duty almost two years ago. I have had some time."
Elidal asks, "Have you more to present? What else do you fear that the Barony of Darkstone will do to you and the people of the Landing?"
Elidal peers quizzically at Queatus.
Speaking to Elidal, Queatus says, "Well, you won't take responsibilty for the death you've brough."
Irval whispers to the group, "And to be fair, to walk outside any of these gates is but a hairs breath away from death and dismemberment to do what we do to survive out here. To grow in strength , to expand our own horizons . There is an inherent risk is every choice and every action but to deny change , is like to deny the sands of time in the hourglass of the universe."
Queatus asks, "What about the next?"
Queatus asks, "What are you doing behind the mirror?"
Elidal says, "Is Wehnimer's Landing responsible for Grishom Stone? Or Barnom Slim?"
Yardie mouths, "Mirror."
(OOC) Bellaja's player whispers to the group, "Like sands through the hourglass.."
Queatus peers quizzically at Elidal.
Leifa answers, "Well, Stone was quite the celebrity."
Queatus says, "I don't see the comparison."
Elidal says, "The mirror is my brother's work, and not even I could convince him to come tonight."
Queatus asks, "Did they invade you?"
Nyaria whispers something to Bellaja.
(OOC) Irval's player whispers to the group, "It goes through the hourglass? Do you have the Prince of persia dagger or something?"
Speaking to Elidal, Queatus asks, "And we should trust?"
Speaking to Elidal, Queatus asks, "After Talador?"
Elidal says, "Trust will come in time. I have not asked for it immediately."
Elidal asks, "You recall the origin of the Talador war?"
Elidal peers quizzically at Queatus.
Queatus says, "I recall the conclusion."
Queatus says, "The fate of Talador."
Elidal says, "I was there, younger than I am now of course, but I was in the crowd when the Gryphons took the stage with the soon to be crowned Kuligar as Baron, and the urnon golem leapt from the shadows and murdered him, only for it to be revealed to be the shapechanger Deylan, who was hired by Walkar, the Mayor of Landing at the time, to secretly gain control of Talador and leverage their resources and army against Elithain Cross."
Elidal asks, "Do you recall that bit of history?"
Elidal peers quizzically at Queatus.
Speaking quietly to himself, Perigourd says, "Something stronger perhaps."
Nairena sadly says, "I remember that."
Queatus says, "I was not there, no."
Placing the basket on the ground, Falvicar gives it a little prod and then stands back. Over the course of several minutes, the basket transforms into a cloth-covered table laid with a spread of food. Once done, he places the basket under the table.
Falvicar says, "Help yourselves."
Stormyrain murmurs, "And then there were Drangell's actions which escalated things."
Elidal says, "There were no winners and no saints in the Talador war. But with bias and emotions removed, the first spark of conflict occured with the subterfuge of Mayor Walkar."
Elidal nods at Queatus.
Speaking to Elidal, Queatus says, "Sounds like you carry some hostility still."
Elidal asks, "But you are not Walkar. Are you?"
Elidal says, "...and I am not Talador."
Elidal asks, "So why do we bother?"
Elidal says, "You are not guilty of Walkar's crimes."
Elidal says, "I am not guilty of Talador's."
Nyaria whispers something to Falvicar.
Elidal asks, "There are more names on the list. Perhaps we shall come back to more on this?"
Elidal peers quizzically at Queatus.
Jadedragan Speaks
Elidal asks, "Jadedragan?"
Queatus says, "Go on."
Jadedragan smiles at Queatus.
Jadedragan nods at Queatus.
Jadedragan turns to face Elidal.
Jadedragan sighs.
Jadedragan gazes heavenward.
Jadedragan says, "I have been thinking a lot about what to say here with you as an audience."
Jadedragan nods at Elidal.
Jadedragan says, "I do not have the history that some here do, though I remember some folks from when they were younger."
Elidal says, "Good. I can respect that, and appreciate it."
Jadedragan nods at Cryheart.
Jadedragan nods at Bernadette.
Jadedragan nods at Geijon.
Elidal says, "History is half of the problem. So do not let it stop you."
Elidal nods at Jadedragan.
Jadedragan says, "There are many more outside of them, but examples."
Jadedragan says, "The Landing has been my home for decades. I have fought, bled, and cried over lost childen, heirlooms, and random creatures looking to breach our walls."
Jadedragan says, "Despite some of the preconceptions here about the unfortunate circumstances of my birth, this town has ALWAYS been open and inviting."
Jadedragan says, "My fear, and concern, is that as the Empire pushes to expand, this home will be gobbled up."
Jadedragan says, "Not because the Empire is evil."
Jadedragan says, "Not because you are."
Jadedragan says, "It is just a part of what Empires do."
Jadedragan says, "And I have no wish to be a subject of any emporer or king."
Jadedragan says, "I appreciate, and celebrate how we establish leadership in this town."
Jadedragan sighs.
Jadedragan says, "It's not perfect."
Jadedragan grins.
Elidal nods at Jadedragan.
Elidal asks, "May I ask you a question then?"
Jadedragan says, "But what I want to impress to you, Lord Elidal, is that I am nervous about what the Empire will do when you realize there is land here for you to take."
Jadedragan nods at Elidal.
[General] Kataric asks, "What is going on at Kilron's shop? When did he get a bouncer?"
Elidal asks, "How long do you think the Empire has been made aware of the existence of Wehnimer's Landing?"
Elidal peers quizzically at Jadedragan.
[General] Nyaria thinks, "Oohh you must have a dreaded thorn somewhere on you or in yourr containers."
Jadedragan asks, "How long is the tiger aware of the deer around it?"
Jadedragan says, "That doesn't mean the deer will die today, or tomorrow."
[General] Kataric thinks, "Hmm, i hardly know what that is."
Jadedragan says, "And it may never happen."
Elidal smirks.
Jadedragan says, "But that is asking to leave your life to chance."
Elidal asks, "What is life, if not chance at times?"
Jadedragan smiles at Elidal.
Jadedragan says, "It is chance, but we can fight for what we believe in to turn chance."
Elidal asks, "What does the Empire have to gain now, in taking Wehnimer's Landing, that it did not in 5103? or 5112? or 5115?"
Elidal peers quizzically at Jadedragan.
Jadedragan shrugs at Elidal.
Elidal says, "Your concerns are valid, because one cannot, and I certainly will not, stand here and tell you how to feel."
Jadedragan asks, "What does it have to push into anywhere?"
Jadedragan says, "There is ALWAYS something to be gained, even if it's just access to something further along."
Elidal says, "But I will also show you the respect of informing you when your feelings may just be you jumping at ghosts."
Elidal nods at Jadedragan.
Jadedragan nods at Elidal.
Jadedragan asks, "So will you provide a commitment from the Emipire that the Landing will not be a target to fall under control of the Empire?"
Jadedragan asks, "Is that something you can do?"
Jadedragan glances at Elidal.
Elidal says, "There has been ample opportunities, and arguably, ample justifications for the Empire to swoop in and takeover Wehnimer's Landing. Earl Jovery has fought hard, and stood strong, to never allow that to happen. He has even sent the sons and daughters of Hendor north to fight for that."
Elidal asks, "That does not seem like the actions of a tiger, does it?"
Elidal peers quizzically at Jadedragan.
Jadedragan says, "The nature of an Empire is to expand. There is no Empire that has ever existed that is content to look at what it has, and seek no more."
Jadedragan says, "I do not begrudge your Empire in this."
Jadedragan says, "I do not think you're evil."
Jadedragan says, "I do not think you have ill intentions toward us."
Elidal says, "I can make no promise, it is not my place, it is the Earl's, and I have submitted my request, and my recommendations. His letter arrives tomorrow."
Evia whispers something to Geijon.
Jadedragan nods at Elidal.
Jadedragan says, "And I think our decisions will hinge on that letter."
Jadedragan says, "I should reinforce what Queatus said."
Elidal says, "Let us pretend then."
Jadedragan says, "This is not animosity toward you, or the Empire."
Jadedragan says, "This is wanting to remain separate."
Elidal asks, "If the Earl declares no annexation of Wehnimer's Landing today, tomorrow, or ever...is that enough?"
Elidal peers quizzically at Jadedragan.
Elidal asks, "Do the thorns return to their bramble? Does the Brotherhood slip back into their shadows?"
Jadedragan asks, "For me? And the others that I have spoken with from the Thorns?"
Nairena says, "Probably not."
Queatus says, "Not a chance."'
Elidal says, "Honesty, I can appreciate that."
Elidal nods at Queatus.
Elidal asks, "Then what are we doing?"
Jadedragan says, "I don't think there's any putting this particular thought back into any of our heads."
Jadedragan says, "However."
Elidal says, "You cannot scream into the sky and beg for it to be blue, and when the sun rises to paint it shades of azure you shout louder and demand for night."
Jadedragan says, "I do not think that our existence will, by neccesity, cause any issues with you or your interests."
Queatus says, "What are we doing here? Well, I was asking for accountability and transparancy, and found neither."
Nyaria quietly says, "That sounds more insane than i am."
Jadedragan says, "So long as this remains what your supposition of the Earl's letter is."
Jadedragan shrugs at Queatus.
Jadedragan says, "Elidal is a Lord, but he cannot guarantee what we would need."
Jadedragan says, "He asked what may happen."
Elidal says, "We can return to that statement soon."
Elidal nods at Queatus.
Elidal says, "I wish to allow others to speak before we go round and round like tigers."
Elidal nods at Queatus.
Elidal smirks.
Jadedragan says, "I believe that the Earl giving that proclamation would show as much commitment as we can get that the Empire wishes to leave the Landing to it's own devices."
Queatus says, "I spoke out of turn."
Jadedragan smiles at Elidal.
Queatus says, "Apologies."
Vaemyr adds his name to the ivory parchment list.
Speaking to Elidal, Jadedragan says, "One more point, well maybe two."
Elidal says, "I have another final question for you then."
Elidal nods at Jadedragan.
Elidal says, "Okay, your points first."
Elidal nods.
Jadedragan grins at Elidal.
Jadedragan bows to Elidal.
Jadedragan says, "The forests around our town have been decimated to set up homes for your settlers."
Jadedragan says, "Our people have given a lot of themselves to help with this, and by choice because it was not a bad thing."
Jadedragan asks, "What will the Empire do to restore the forests to their prior status?"
Jadedragan says, "I have heard of someone maybe trying something, but world shaking magic rarely shakes the way we want."
Elidal says, "I worship Imaera. There is nothing more sacred than the world around us, in nature, and in preserving it. Lady Aronia in the coming days will perform one of many rituals to help prepare the land for a spring of renewal and resurgence. I have not made this a secret."
Speaking to Jadedragan, Rasson says, "They already have a lady of the green taking care of that."
Jadedragan glances at Rasson.
Falvicar whispers something to Yardie.
Jadedragan says, "Magic has a price."
Elidal says, "Her work will not stop there."
Jadedragan says, "Even from the Arkati."
Elidal says, "Yes mana."
Elidal smirks.
Jadedragan looks over at Elidal and shakes his head.
Jadedragan says, "The easy path never works the way you want it to."
Jadedragan sighs.
Elidal says, "I even saw others planting as they cleared trees."
Speaking to Jadedragan, Rasson says, "I saw her first ritual when she arrive, she will see the forest protects its own."
Elidal says, "There is plenty that has been done, and will be done, to restore what is used."
Jadedragan says, "I appreciate what you're saying Lord Elidal. But much as I have concerns about the Empires intentions to the Landing, I do not ever see these easy answers working."
Jadedragan says, "Maybe this is being overly pessimistic."
Elidal says, "Then that becomes a lack of faith, which only time and courage can assist with."
Elidal nods at Jadedragan.
Elidal asks, "Is your name Jade Dragan, or Jaded Ragan?"
Elidal smirks at Jadedragan.
Elidal says, "Embrace optimism, it may do you well."
Jadedragan says, "The Hunt is not a simple path to your prey."
Jadedragan says, "It is a long process."
Elidal nods at Jadedragan.
Elidal says, "As all good ones are."
Elidal says, "Your concerns for the forest are shared."
Jadedragan nods at Elidal.
Elidal asks, "You had a final point, before my question?"
Elidal peers quizzically at Jadedragan.
Jadedragan says, "Oh, yes."
Jadedragan chuckles.
Jadedragan says, "There's a certain captain."
Lylia offers Stormyrain a chartreuse-colored bottle of vivid emerald absinthe.
Jadedragan says, "In our waters."
Stormyrain accepts Lylia's vivid emerald absinthe.
Speaking to Stormyrain, Lylia murmurs, "Pass it around to those who look most in need."
Jadedragan says, "That would do well to be reined in."
Elidal says, "We are already coordinating a plan with your town's heroes and councilors to address Bodohal."
Jadedragan nods at Elidal.
Kiyna says, "Bodohal, at least, is an issue we are currently resolving with Elidal, yes."
Elidal says, "My question now to you..."
Jadedragan nods at Elidal.
Elidal asks, "Do you love someone? A bride? a lover? a child or brother?"
Jadedragan chuckles.
Jadedragan says, "No."
Jadedragan says, "I have no family."
Jadedragan says, "The Huntress saved me at a young age."
Elidal asks, "Have you ever loved someone? or trusted someone?"
Jadedragan says, "I love the world around me, and there are a few I have trust in."
Elidal asks, "But there are a few then, you admit yes?"
Jadedragan nods at Elidal.
Elidal nods.
Elidal says, "Think of one of them for me. Picture them. You need not speak their name to us."
Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "He gonna do voodo."
Elidal says, "In evaluating your relationship with them, and assessing the strength of your bond...the value of the friendship..."
Speaking to Gutstorm, Jadedragan says, "I have other concerns, but valid."
Elidal asks, "What is more meaningful to you? Their words to prove love? Or their actions to prove devotion?"
Elidal asks, "Which holds more weight with you?"
Leifa mutters, "Actions."
Jadedragan says, "You're asking me to compare my relationships with people and how I trust in individuals, many of whom I have established that trust based on similar values."
Jadedragan says, "With an Empire that, by it's nature, can only care about it's own power."
Jadedragan says, "I understand what you mean."
Elidal says, "No, I am asking you to tell me what you place more value in. Words or actions."
Elidal says, "I hope you do."
Elidal nods at Jadedragan.
Jadedragan says, "I place more value in actions."
Elidal says, "Precisely my point."
Jadedragan says, "And if there was someone that I placed trust in, telling me that they had my best interests in heart, and then showed up on my doorstep with all their belongings."
Jadedragan says, "And used the weight of our relationship to force my hand into giving them a home without any possibility of feedback."
Elidal says, "The Empire as a whole, unremoved from the rogue elements who have poisoned the land here, have time and again proved their loyalty, respect, and alliance to Wehnimer's by their actions."
Jadedragan says, "Then that would sever that relationship."
Elidal says, "Yet here you beg for words, when clearly actions hold more value."
Jadedragan says, "No, I beg for action."
Elidal says, "...and of course, according to some, even if you did get those words, that would not be enough."
Jadedragan says, "Prove that the current relationship the Landing has with the Empire will not change."
Elidal says, "History has proven that."
Elidal nods at Jadedragan.
Jadedragan says, "Give us the edict from your Emperor."
Elidal says, "Wehnimer's Landing holds a blemished past, if we can be honest."
Jadedragan says, "That the Landing will NEVER be a target for Imperial expansion."
Elidal asks, "But again, would words suffice?"
Elidal peers quizzically at Jadedragan.
Elidal says, "There are some here who proudly declared no, they would not."
Elidal says, "Let us move to the next for now."
Ceilia Speaks
Elidal says, "Ceilia."
Jadedragan gazes heavenward.
Ceilia nods respectfully.
Ceilia respectfully acknowledges, "Baron."
Elidal says, "Lord, or Eli."
Tikba murmurs, "Not yet."
Elidal says, "I'm not coronated yet."
Elidal smiles.
Ceilia says, "My apologies."
Elidal says, "But by all means, practice if you wish."
Elidal chuckles.
Ceilia's eyes crinkle upward at the edges, though the rest of her face is concealed by the folds of her cowl.
Ceilia says, "Thank you for agreeing to meet here, and cordially at that."
Ceilia says, "It speaks to our predicament that a noble of the annexing nation will give us voice when the city's own leadership tries their hardest to squelch it."
(OOC) Rasson's player whispers to the group, "Cordially until we leave to a group of night watchmen to arrest anyine with thorns."
Elidal says, "An unfair response, but I understand their perspective as well."
Elidal nods at Ceilia.
(OOC) Kiyna's player whispers to the group, "That's actually Amos, not Elidal."
(OOC) Rasson's player whispers to the group, "Yes I know it was just a joke."
(OOC) Leafiara's player whispers to the group, "That's her point, though I think she's more referring to Thadston than Amos here." [looking this over, I think I interpreted Kiyna as replying to Ceilia when it was actually Rasson]
(OOC) Lylia's player whispers to the group, "And that's also an OOC thing while Elidal is speaking IC, and he is being VERY cordial."
Ceilia says, "I understand their perspective as well, but it doesn't align with the city's values."
(OOC) Yukito's player whispers to the group, "I hope not. If my thorn-wrapped cologne gets confiscated, Imma throw things. =p."
Ceilia says, "Regardless, I think we're meeting here becacuse we are more alike than anyone would care to acknowledge."
(OOC) Nyaria's player whispers to the group, "Ill help."
(OOC) Yardie's player whispers to the group, "I have learned how....thorny...people are with their items and alterations."
Ceilia says, "We are both here in the wilderness, pressed in the same vice,"
Ceilia says, "Between the elements, and an Empire indifferent to our people's suffering."
(OOC) Rasson's player whispers to the group, "That is why I whispered on ooc and did not say it in the room."
Ceilia says, "We're all on the razor's edge. A few missteps and starvation is knocking."
(OOC) Rasson's player whispers to the group, "I have had vines and thorns since befor they were the in thing lol."
Ceilia says, "I'm not sure what you believe, but I do not think help will arrive from the south if that happens."
Evia whispers something to Mourdeyan.
Ceilia quickly lifts the edge of her cowl and covers her mouth, only to seconds later issue a muffled cough.
Ceilia says, "After hearing you speak, I came away with a very particular impression."
(OOC) Yukito's player whispers to the group, "If everyone had decided to be "brambles", I'd lose half my closet and get dragged out of my major sanctuary. So... we're good."
(OOC) Bellaja's player whispers to the group, "No more thorn fasteners for the cobbling."
Ceilia says, "You're young, well-educated, principled, idealistic..."
Ceilia says, "Characteristics that make you a perfect diplomat to the people of the North."
Ceilia says, "You were selected for another reason as well: your inexperience is critical the role you are here to fulfil."
Elidal grins.
Ceilia says, "Only an inexperienced idealist could venture here and convincingly perform the sort of outreach and diplomacy necessary to gain a foothold and tighten the reigns."
Ceilia says, "More-over only an inexperienced idealist could press on in the face of what's to come, justify anything he saw, hold the charade long enough."
Elidal says, "Flattery will get you everywhere."
Speaking to Elidal, Ceilia says, "My reespectful request to you, Lord Elidal, is that you not only retain your strong sense of justice as events unfold,"
Ceilia winks at Elidal.
Ceilia's eyes wrinkle at the edges in mirth.
Ceilia says, "But that you do so while turning a critical eye to the motivations of those around you. Including those you hold sacrosanct."
Ceilia says, "I think you're going to be forced to learn the truth very quickly, and I think you have the capacity to come away from it the better."
Ceilia bows to Elidal.
Ceilia says, "Thank you."
Elidal says, "I believe I understand your meaning..."
Elidal says, "But the wisdom in me warns I should clarify."
Elidal asks, "Are you predicting those around me, my inner circle of advisors if you will, are not to be trusted?"
Ceilia says, "Not quite my meaning, more than your understanding of the motivations of those around you will evolve."
Elidal says, "Of course. We are always evolving, whether we admit it or not."
Ceilia says, "You're at the tip of the diplomatic spear of a centuries old organization, and you're very young to be so."
Elidal says, "I am aware of the strengths, weakness, and beauty of those who advise me."
Elidal says, "Moreover, I am aware of my own."
Elidal says, "I appreciate your sentiments and advice."
Elidal nods at Ceilia.
Tikba Speaks
Elidal asks, "Tikba?"
Tikba smiles at Elidal.
Tikba fairly emanates polite civility by way of her courteous, tempered expression.
Speaking gently to Elidal, Tikba says, "It is always such a pleasure to speak with you, Elidal. You always know just what to say."
Speaking to Elidal, Tikba says, "When surrounded by friends and adventurers, you are the light-hearted rake who knows the Thorns are merely a joke. When meeting with the Thorns a day later, you are the dignified noble lord hearing his foes out."
Speaking mildly to Elidal, Tikba says, "When it is time to show yourself as a steely leader, you are ready to condemn a man to a life of slavery in the mines if he goes against your word again. Whatever the moment demands."
Speaking to Elidal, Tikba says, "I have two short questions, and I will let you be."
Speaking politely to Elidal, Tikba asks, "Earl Jovery's letter will arrive tomorrow. Why did you wish to hold the meeting today?"
Evia whispers something to Mourdeyan.
Elidal says, "I never told Sablo he'd be a slave. But he would certainly spend awhile working in the mines, and never command an army again."
Tikba says, "His life, you said."
Tikba wryly asks, "Poetic license?"
Elidal asks, "...I did?"
Elidal shrugs.
Tikba mildly says, "Perhaps you do not remember the exact threat you levied."
Elidal says, "Anger can jumble words, but I appreciate the reminder."
Tikba mildly says, "Do not fear. I believe I remember it well."
Elidal says, "I think he understood the meaning, and not in a rigid literal sense."
Tikba politely says, "Figurative bondage. I see."
Elidal says, "My levity in discussing the Thorns around a bonfire, and the actions of tonight to hold a civil discussion...does not lessen anything."
The giant purple squirrel sidles closer to Tikba, eyeing her with the expectant look of a creature accustomed to handouts.
Tikba extends a hand towards the giant purple squirrel and it snaps at her with its sharp yellow teeth, squeaking angrily.
Elidal says, "I can have my thoughts and feelings, and still act in a manner in which is fair, or considerate, to those wishing to earn it."
Elidal says, "A good ruler listens, and does not just cast sweeping decisions based on emotions."
Elidal says, "To answer your real question..."
Tikba politely notes, "The first."
Elidal says, "Every day that division remains and festers, is a day we cannot afford."
Elidal says, "I do not know what to expect with the letter tomorrow night."
Tikba mildly says, "Yes, perhaps it will tear that division wider."
Tikba asks, "Who can say for sure?"
Elidal says, "But there is nothing in its contents that will dissuade me from trying to work with others, earn agreements, and see peace."
Tikba politely says, "Of course not."
Elidal says, "I do not let the decisions of other men dictate my own efforts for peace."
Elidal nods at Tikba.
Elidal asks, "You had more questions I believe?"
Tikba mildly says, "Only their outcomes."
Tikba says, "Yes, just one."
Speaking politely to Elidal, Tikba asks, "You said tonight that the Earl gave you two years to prepare for this mission. Where is your army?"
Elidal says, "It is coming."
(OOC) Kelfyr's player whispers to the group, "RSN."
Tikba asks, "From further than two year's march away?"
Tikba grins wryly at Elidal.
Tikba asks, "Atan Irith, perhaps?"
Elidal asks, "Imagine for a moment, the reception a standing army would have received, given the amount of grief wagons of displaced settlers got?"
Elidal chuckles.
Tikba says, "Two years is time to make many preparations. But you came to us with no army, no protections for your caravan, no supplies for the winter except those we provided."
Tikba says, "Only a Magister, a mirror, and a plan to investigate the Reach."
Elidal says, "We have a Sablo."
Elidal smirks.
Tikba gently says, "I am interested in what those two years were spent on, Elidal."
Elidal says, "The mission was not decided two years ago."
Elidal says, "Discussions began."
Tikba amusedly says, "You have a Sablo because you did not have a Thadston. But he only learned of the offer days before we did."
Elidal says, "We spent time drawing maps, surveying lands, studying the town, the history..."
Tikba nods understandingly at Elidal.
Elidal says, "The army will expand. We have several recruits, some who have come from other baronies. I would not be surprised if even some Wehnimer's citizens join the ranks in time."
Tikba says, "That was the most important preparation. Research on us. Our Rooks, our Gryphons, our magical ruins."
Tikba grins wryly at Elidal.
Tikba says, "I suppose that is all you needed, after all."
Elidal says, "Hearts and minds are more difficult to win than overcoming hordes of goblins."
Evia whispers something to Guarrin.
Speaking quietly to herself, Raelee says, "... research is always of utmost importance."
Tikba nods in agreement at Elidal.
Tikba neutrally says, "I understand. Thank you, Elidal."
Evia whispers something to Lylia.
Lylia whispers something to Evia.
Elidal smiles.
Vaemyr Speaks
Elidal asks, "Vaemyr?"
Vaemyr nods.
Vaemyr sighs.
Vaemyr says, "I'll try to be brief, it's late."
Elidal takes a long ivory parchment list and curls it up, stowing it away.
Vaemyr says, "This is to Elidal and pretty much others here... to."
Vaemyr asks, "I want peace as much as anyone, I don't wish to see our town torn appart anymore, not again. Is there some action, some common ground, some small inkling or beginning of trust or accord we could come up with tonight?"
Elidal asks, "Can I be honest?"
Vaemyr asks, "Something, that we can call progress?"
Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "Your opinion might be the same as mine own, but sure... I never turn away honesty."
Elidal says, "The likelihood of some accord became far more challenging when a representative of the Thorns declared that even words, coupled with a history of actions, would not suffice in mending bridges and squashing concerns and resistance."
Elidal says, "That was over an hour ago. I can only hope, and I do hope, that sentiment is shared only by one person, or only a few at best."
Elidal says, "Additionally, I think any agreement should wait until tomorrow's letter."
Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr asks, "And I heard the same, which is why I ask directly, what is an action, what is it that we can accomplish?"
Elidal says, "We have may much to discuss after the Earl's decree, or very little."
[General] Kelfyr thinks, "Solhaven's nice this time of year."
[General] Khoal exclaims, "Im game to joins ya!"
[General] Nyaria thinks, "River's rest is nice and warm, cozy and pretty close."
Tikba wryly says, "Let us agree to meet here on this spot tomorrow to learn how the Northern Sentinel wishes to dispose of us."
[General] Kelfyr exclaims, "Only a boot away!"
Jadedragan says, "And yet none here can influence our future, but for the actions of others who are not here to account for themselves."
Elidal says, "But I had wished to hear from those who align with the Thorns tonight, even before the Earl's decision. I think it is valuable to assess the perception now, and the perception to come."
[General] Vaikeses thinks, ".. come to the mule .. this is the perfect warm place."
Elidal says, "It can help determine if people's efforts, their feelings, and their words are even true."
Vaemyr sighs.
Vaemyr nods at Ceilia.
Ceilia nods at Vaemyr.
Elidal says, "If nothing else..."
Vaemyr says, "Yes please, if someone has a suggestion, please feel free to speak."
Ceilia says, "If I may."
Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "I have one more quick question for you after please."
Elidal says, "We have accomplished more tonight than I would imagine the Brotherhood of Rooks could, or would."
Elidal nods at Vaemyr.
Lylia venomously says, "You do not want to hear my suggestions tonight, I think."
Ceilia clearly says, "I think the most concrete thing that could be offered to achieve peace is the complete cessation of all magical research in and around the Barony."
Speaking to Lylia, Evia asks, "Would you like a corner of my blankie to clutch?"
Ceilia says, "The risk to life and land is too great."
Vaemyr ponders.
Ceilia's eyes crinkle slightly at the edges.
Elidal says, "I am sorry, the work with the Reach and the Castle will continue."
Ceilia nods respectfully.
Vaemyr nods slowly.
Elidal says, "The inclusion of several locals to the research team will help ensure safer measures for all."
(OOC) Earthdiver's player whispers to the group, "Safety third!"
Jadedragan says, "I appreciate your time Lord Elidal, but I fear the hour has caught up to me."
Elidal says, "Thank you all for this night."
Elidal nods at Jadedragan.
Jadedragan says, "Tomorrow will be interesting for all of us."
Elidal bows to Jadedragan.
Jadedragan says, "But I do hope you take away that we are not here to fight you or the Empire."
Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "My last question, and feel free to not answer as it is purely hypothetical and even potentially unlikely."
Jadedragan nods at Elidal.
Elidal nods at Jadedragan.
Yardie whispers aloud, "Hope for the best....brace for the worst...and prepare."
Vaemyr nods at Ceilia.
Elidal turns an inquisitive ear toward Vaemyr.
Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "Say we've built a peaceful relationship, beyond all odds and pain and hardship. Five, ten years pass. Wehnimer's is still a free city and the Barony of Darkstone Thrives."
Elidal turns an inquisitive ear toward Vaemyr.
Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "However say the Earl passes away, another to take his place. You've spend 10 years at this point nurturing a great relationship, there is peace. And the new Earl now orders you to expand further."
Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr asks, "What would you do?"
Elidal says, "Let us focus more on tomorrow, than a decade from now."
Speaking in Faendryl, Lylia coldly says something you don't understand.
Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "That's fine, just know that the Gryphons, had a similar choice. Years ago. They chose to defend this town at the denouncement of their order at the time officially by the empire."
Elidal says, "I prefer to deal in more relevant certanties, not play imagine games for the future. It is hard to do that, and it isn't fair truthfully."
Vaemyr says, "I know, that's why I prefaced the question as unfair in the first place."
Vaemyr chuckles to himself.
Tikba whispers something to Missoni.
Elidal says, "At least you recognized that."
Elidal says, "I thank you all for the audience tonight."
Arahnim says, "Thank you for your words and time."
Elidal says, "I look forward to tomorrow's revelations."
Speaking stiffly to Elidal, Lylia says, "Goodnight. You are welcome."
Speaking gently to Elidal, Tikba says, "Goodnight, Elidal."
Speaking to Elidal, Yardie says, "Evening to you."
Mourdeyan says, "G'night Lord Elidal."
Elidal bows.
Speaking to Elidal, Tikba says, "I am sure we will see each other again soon."
Speaking in Faendryl to Elidal, Missoni wishes something you don't understand.
Elidal says, "Yes, tomorrrow."
Irval says, "Tomorrow even."
Elidal nods at Tikba.
Speaking to Elidal, Missoni wishes, "Fair eve, Lord Elidal."
Elidal chuckles.
Tikba grins wryly.
Tikba says, "Ah, yes."
Elidal bows.
Lord Elidal just went north.
