Summary

After arriving on a ship from Estoria, a one-eyed man named Sketch brings a bloodstained neckerchief to Stormyrain. Her loresong reveals Thrayzar, seemingly in pursuit of someone using the scent of a doll in his hand, but eventually being surrounded, attacked, and abducted by what look to be [[::Orders_of_the_Turamzzyrian_Empire#The_White_Sparrows|White Sparrows]]--who claim they have need of him.

Log

The Estorian Ship

BOOM! A clap of thunder echoes above.

Thunder rumbles on the horizon, heralding the coming of a storm.

Briefly spotted amidst the bolts of lightning, a ship can be seen rising and falling on the horizon of Darkstone Bay as the waters slosh about in the winds and storm.

[travel time]

[Wehnimer's, North Dock]

The dock's planks are dull and weathered from the salt spray of many seasons. Northward beyond the massive sea gates, a flock of ice geese passes, silhouetted against the sky over the dark blue waters of Darkstone Bay. The hulk of a derelict coastal sailer is tethered to the end of the pier. You also see a black imperial wagon with a glowing blue-white pylon on it, the dark waters of Darkstone Bay and a stack of empty crates.

The outline of a ship comes in closer, as it rides the waves rolling along Darkstone Bay. It appears to be maneuvering towards the sea gates and North Docks of town.

As the ship comes closer into view, you can see the crest of a white horse clenching a black rose in its teet, and numerous figures moving along its deck.

Xorus says, "Estorian."

Zosopage asks, "In its teet?"

Evia says, "How does one clench a teet."

Pukk quietly says, "Oh great, it is a ship that has a bad paint job."

Madmountan says, "Teeth."

Kipara says, "That horse has a powerful teet."

HAHAH. OOPS?

TEETFORTAT.

Slowly, the Estorian ship navigates through the sea gate, the wind wipping at its crest of a white horse clenching a black rose in its TEETH. The ship slowly docks.

Some workers appear on the deck of the ship, appearing to be moving some crates towards the gangplank. A few of the workers look on at the crowd, with some confusion.

One of the workers can be heard chuckling, "...they always gather like this? Don't they ever sleep?" Some more workers chuckle and continue to unload some crates and boxes off of the ship.

Breaking from the crowd of workers, a one-eyed scruffy human departs from the ship and walks down the gangplank. He offers a few polite nods and words to the workers, and one waves back to him.

You take a moment to observe everything you can about a scruffy one-eyed human.

The scruffy one-eyed human says, "Ah, Wehnimer's Landing. Always a wonderful sight and smell."

The scruffy one-eyed human says, "I think my first stop shall be Helga's Tavern, for a nice drink." His eyes slowly go to Shinann, then to Stormyrain, and he holds his gaze. He nods and walks off towards Helga's.

Stormyrain glances west.

Shinann raises an eyebrow.

Stormyrain just went west.

Shinann just went west.

Sketchy Customer

[travel time]

[Helga's Tavern, Barroom]

The blended odors of ale, sweat, leather, perfume and hearty stew fill the stifling air of the tavern. Disheveled regulars and road-weary travelers rub elbows at the wooden bar, which looks recently varnished but already bears a variety of stains and grime. Helga, the ancient, obese proprietor, moves behind the bar, wiping glasses with a dirty towel as she keeps a beady eye on the patrons. A small fireplace in one corner burns feebly, adding little light or warmth to the room. You also see a scruffy one-eyed human, Helga, an overturned creel, a huge cast iron stewpot, a set of swinging doors and a tattered menu.

The scruffy one-eyed human says, "Ah, mighty nice of you Captain Stormyrain." [unclear what the context of this was]

The scruffy one-eyed human says, "I've had my fair share of storms and rains myself lately..." He chuckles to himself.

Stormyrain smiles slightly.

Stormyrain nods faintly.

Speaking heartily to a scruffy one-eyed human, Chamorr asks, "You know the Captain?"

Stormyrain leans against the bar, taking a momentary rest.

The scruffy one-eyed human says, "Know? Afraid not. I've been here enough times to know some names and faces, but we've never danced, if you catch my meaning."

Stormyrain gets a blank look on her face.

Stormyrain slowly says, "No, we've never danced."

Shinann gazes thoughtfully at a scruffy one-eyed human.

Stormyrain twists her head slightly, cracking her neck. She looks relieved.

The scruffy human seems to look around a bit, once even over his shoulder, surveying the tavern and all of those present. He watches the door, then the shadows in the corner, then the door again.

Shinann glances around the room.

Evician asks, "You expecting someone?"

Madmountan says, "He seems nervous."

Lornieh asks, "Or a lot of someones?"

The scruffy one-eyed human says, "Neck cramp. Working it out."

Stormyrain twists her head slightly, cracking her neck. She looks relieved.

Stormyrain nods understandingly to a scruffy one-eyed human.

Shinann folds her hands behind her back.

Speaking to a scruffy one-eyed human, Stormyrain says, "Long trip, I imagine."

The scruffy one-eyed human says, "Aye."

Speaking to a scruffy one-eyed human, Evician asks, "I mean no disrespect sir, but who are you?"

Speaking politely to a scruffy one-eyed human, Cruxophim requests, "Could you act a bit sketchier, please? I mean, if you wish to fit in?"

The scruffy human stretches and with his leg, loops it under his stool and scoots a little closer to Stormyrain.

Cruxophim flashes a quick grin.

Stormyrain leans forward.

Stormyrain leans against the bar, taking a momentary rest.

The scruffy one-eyed human says, "Sketch is actually my name."

Speaking amusedly to a scruffy one-eyed human, Cruxophim notes, "What a coincidence."

The scruffy one-eyed human says, "Well, not my real name. But, a little nickname I've gotten over the years. I draw a lot."

Speaking to a scruffy one-eyed human, Stormyrain says, "Oh? There's quite the group of artists in the area. Mayhaps you can get a piece into a show here. Sell a paper or two."

Shinann clears her throat.

The scruffy one-eyed human says, "I'm not here long. I'm heading out at first light. Places to go, people to do."

The scruffy human watches the tavern once more, looking at the door.

Stormyrain glances over her shoulder.

Shinann glances around the room.

Speaking flatly to a scruffy one-eyed human, Stormyrain says, "Maybe next time you come through town, then, Sketch."

The scruffy human places his hand inside of his jacket, and looks around one final time.

The scruffy human leans in closer to Stormyrain, and pulls out a bloodstained red neckerchief and places it on the bar infront of him.

Cruxophim surreptitiously glances at Stormyrain.

Stormyrain glances at Cruxophim.

Shinann glances at a stained wooden bar.

Stormyrain glances at a stained wooden bar.

The scruffy human looks at his empty mug, "I've always loved this town and its people, and those who work to keep its freedoms, you know?"

Speaking somberly to a scruffy one-eyed human, Stormyrain says, "I do."

Shinann nods slowly.

The scruffy human says, "So when something bad happens, it is a shame. And it shouldn't happen, and if it does, people should know."

Stormyrain nods slowly.

The scruffy human says, "But it's hard for people to know, you know?"

Shinann gazes thoughtfully at a scruffy one-eyed human.

The human says, "It's hard to really share sometimes. Lots of eyes, lots of ears, lots of rumors. So me, I just like to drink and enjoy myself."

Shinann says, "Always rumors in a town."

Speaking to a scruffy one-eyed human, Stormyrain whispers aloud, "Who does or did it belong to?"

Stormyrain leans against a stained wooden bar.

Stormyrain taps a stained wooden bar.

The human looks around again for a moment. He then slides the red neckerchief across the bar, stopping it in front of Stormyrain. He looks at her, his eyes serious and almost pained for a moment. He sighs, and nods to her. He then pulls his hand away, leaving the neckerchief on the bar.

Shinann raises an eyebrow.

Stormyrain focuses her concentration, briefly studying the composition of a bloodstained red neckerchief.

Stormyrain places her hand on a bloodstained red neckerchief.

Stormyrain nods faintly to a scruffy one-eyed human.

The human pushes himself away from the bar and stands up. He nods to Helga, "A fine brew as always lass. If Sleepy didn't have your heart, well, maybe I would. All thirty pounds of it."

Shinann gives a sidelong glance at Stormyrain.

The human nods to Stormyrain, "Thanks for the drink. Goodnight my friends."

Speaking to a scruffy one-eyed human, Stormyrain murmurs, "Jastev guide you, friend."

The human bows and heads out of the tavern, walking off into the night down a street.

A Missing Marshal

Stormyrain glances at Shinann.

Speaking to Shinann, Stormyrain says, "This looks like something Thrayzar would wear."

Shinann says, "I was thinking that."

Shinann frowns.

Stormyrain closes her eyes for a moment.

Stormyrain nods.

Evia says, "Perhaps a song to the neckerchief."

Stormyrain asks, "Let's see what it has to say then yes?"

Stormyrain nods at Evia.

Shinann asks, "Does it have a song?"

Speaking to Evia, Stormyrain says, "It does."

Stormyrain casually observes her surroundings.

Speaking in Guildspeak, Stormyrain asks something you don't understand.

Florania looks over at Stormyrain and shakes her head.

Stormyrain gives a sidelong glance at Florania.

Speaking in Guildspeak to Florania, Stormyrain asks something you don't understand.

Speaking in Guildspeak, Florania simply says something you don't understand.

Florania smiles.

Speaking in Guildspeak, Stormyrain says something you don't understand.

Stormyrain places a hand over her heart.

Stormyrain bows to Florania.

Speaking in Guildspeak, Florania quietly offers something you don't understand.

Florania nods once.

Stormyrain inclines her head.

Florania curtsies gracefully.

Shinann frowns.

(Stormyrain runs her fingers across the neckerchief with her eyes closed, letting them rest on the very edge.)

Stormyrain removes a bloodstained red neckerchief from on a stained wooden bar.

Stormyrain sings something in Guildspeak that you don't understand.

The red neckerchief seems to respond to the magic of Stormyrain's song.

Stormyrain blinks, staring off into the distance.

Speaking to herself, Stormyrain breathes, "No."

Shinann asks, "What?"

Stormyrain plops down to the ground in a sitting position.

Shinann exclaims, "No!"

Stormyrain says, "Your vision blurs, colors melding together before forming a new landscape entirely. You watch as a red orc creeps low to the ground, his dark brown eyes coldly regarding the crossroads below his vantage point. The road was busy, with traders and caravans moving north along the trail, following the sign marked for the Swale. The orc sniffed as the salty winds of the coast still lingered, the coasts of Ubl to his back."

Stormyrain tightens her grip on her red neckerchief.

Shinann nods slowly.

Shinann frowns.

Stormyrain sings something in Guildspeak that you don't understand.

The red neckerchief seems to respond to the magic of Stormyrain's song.

Stormyrain blinks, staring off into the distance.

Stormyrain says, "Your vision blurs, colors melding together before forming a new landscape entirely. The orc stalks away from his perch and disappears into some brush, reemerging in an open clearing. He can still smell the salt of the sea, but the sound of the teamsters has muted some. He clenches a doll in his hand, sniffs at it, and shakes his head, his eyes less cold, and now more confused. His trail had gone cold."

Shinann frowns.

Shinann says, "I know..."

Shinann says, "He is looking for Raznel."

Shinann gazes at Stormyrain.

Speaking to Shinann, Ysharra asks, "The doll, yes?"

Stormyrain sings something in Guildspeak that you don't understand.

The red neckerchief seems to respond to the magic of Stormyrain's song.

Stormyrain blinks, staring off into the distance.

Shinann nods at Ysharra.

Stormyrain closes her eyes for a moment.

Stormyrain hesitantly says, "Your vision blurs, colors melding together before forming a new landscape entirely. The orc suddenly blinks, eyes wide and alert as he spins around at the sound of others approaching. Stepping out into view, a dozen humanoids appear, their faces ghostly white and their bodies garbed in a ghastly assortment of patchwork skin, ranging from troll, to goblin to krolvin. They speak not at all, and rush in towards the orc."

Stormyrain's hand trembles.

Speaking to himself, Fahlo says, "The sparrows.."

Xorus says, "The White Sparrows."

Evia says, "White Sparrows."

Izden quietly says, "White sparrows."

(Shinann stands very still.)

Stormyrain sings something in Guildspeak that you don't understand.

The red neckerchief seems to respond to the magic of Stormyrain's song.

Stormyrain blinks, staring off into the distance.

Stormyrain clenches her jaw.

Stormyrain stands up.

Shinann gazes with dread at Stormyrain.

Xorus says, "They adorn themselves with the skins and trophies of the things they kill."

Speaking in Guildspeak, Stormyrain growls something you don't understand.

Stormyrain says, "Your vision blurs, colors melding together before forming a new landscape entirely. The orc lies wounded, bloodied in the clearing, surrounded by his attackers. He reaches for his weapons, but can barely move. The others begin to tend to his wounds, as one finally speaks, "Thrayzar, we have been looking for you. You are most needed at this time." The figure leans down, places a black bag over the orc's face, and the vision ends."

Shinann blinks.

(Stormyrain turns away from the crowd and places both of her hands on the bar, her knuckles turning white with the force of her hold on it.)

Flimbo shrilly exclaims, "I have a question. Why is everyone fretting over a kidnapped orc? I thought we punched orcs!"

Stormyrain glares at Flimbo.

Evia says, "Not this one."

You calmly explain, "He's the marshal of our militia."

Speaking to Flimbo, Dergoatean says, "He's a special orc."

Lylia wearily explains, "He is not a typical orc."

Flimbo shrilly exclaims, "Wehnimer's has an orc militia?!"

Shinann stares at Flimbo.

Stormyrain slowly says, "For those who do not know Thrayzar I would welcome you to keep your tongues still about him."

Stormyrain twists her head slightly, cracking her neck. She looks relieved.

Shinann agrees with Stormyrain.

Stormyrain evenly says, "As a very quick history lesson; he was not always an orc. He was a man, cursed by Raznel to be what he is now; and he leads our Militia. He has served this town for years, and he is my friend."

Stormyrain turns around.

Shinann says, "And mine."

Stormyrain casually observes her surroundings.

Lylia whispers something to Stormyrain.

Stormyrain inclines her head.

Stormyrain whispers something to Lylia.

Lylia nods sympathetically at Stormyrain.

Speaking softly to Stormyrain, Balley asks, "May I touch the neckerchief and see if I can sense anything about it? Or see if it can help me understand my visions?"

Stormyrain nods at Shinann.

Goldstr says, "Pardon to Captain Stormy But Thrayzor still be Head a Militia Aye? Even tho missin."

(Stormyrain holds the neckerchief out to Balley.)

Stormyrain nods faintly at Goldstr.

Stormyrain says, "He is."

Shinann nods.

Speaking quietly to Stormyrain, Izden says, "I'm not sure I understand, sparrows or orcs, though have learned to live through ambiguity."

Balley removes a bright silver scrying bowl from in her emerald faille pelisse.

Balley takes out a small flask of water and pours it into her silver scrying bowl then stows the empty flask.

Balley gazes into her silver scrying bowl, her expression growing blank and eyes unfocused. After a short while she blinks a few times and seems to be aware of her surroundings again.

Balley softly says, "It is dark."

Speaking to Izden, Stormyrain says, "Thrayzar is an orc by curse. The Sparrows are---not unlike the Rooks but, a bit more foul."

Shinann sighs.

Speaking quietly to Stormyrain, Izden asks, "Fowl birds, eh?"

Balley softly says, "Stormy it is dark and I see distruction."

Stormyrain nods slowly at Izden.

Stormyrain glances with dismay at Balley.

Stormyrain nods faintly.

Balley shivers.

Stormyrain glances at a bloodstained red neckerchief in her hand.

Chamorr heartily asks, "So what to do now?"

Stormyrain somberly says, "We kill them all."

Stormyrain nods gratefully at Lylia. [seems to be based on a whispered exchange]

Stormyrain nods in agreement at Shinann. [likewise]

Shinann sighs softly.

(Stormyrain methodically folds the neckerchief before tucking it away.)

Stormyrain tucks a bloodstained red neckerchief into a small pocket inside of her ebon lambskin jacket.

Stormyrain quietly says, "If you will excuse me."

Shinann sighs sadly.

Shinann says, "Me also."

Shinann just went through a set of swinging doors.

Stormyrain suddenly stumbles for no apparent reason.

Stormyrain raises her voice in rhythmic song, commanding the aid of the elements.

Stormyrain skillfully begins to weave another verse into her harmony.

Stormyrain sings a song of revelry, reminding you of days long gone. Lost in the song for a moment, your vision blurs slightly and you think you see

Stormyrain raise her arm in a toast. You blink to clear your head and find that Stormyrain has vanished!
