The Griffin Sword Saga (storyline)/2002-05-12 - Kendryth (log)

Ulstram continues to deliberate with the priests within Lorminstra's Temple in Wehnimer's Landing about the particulars of how to purge the taint from the Griffin Sword. While he does so, Kendryth emerges for a time to converse with the locals on the evening of 5/12/02. The conversations are largely aimless, though he recognizes that the locals are hearty in spirit in spite of their eccentricities.

This log is from Alisaire's perspective. It has been heavily edited.

[Wehnimer's, Erebor Square]
The dome of a large temple rises before you.  The circular building is surrounded by marble porticos and teak columns.  A promenade leads to two pillars, through which you can peer into the inner sanctum.  You observe priests, acolytes, monks and worshippers engaged in various rituals of devotion.  A locked almsbox is securely bolted to an iron pole alongside the pillars.  You also see a pulsating orb, the Aetheri disk, a cracked stick, a horned frog who is sitting, the Griffin sword which is embedded to its hilt in a glowing white stone and a wrought-iron gate.

Orinkar says, "I've made it a point to study Luukosians since"

Lurch says, "They are easier to study dead..."

Orinkar begins chuckling at Lurch.
Orinkar says, "oh yes"
Orinkar says, "kill worshippers of the patron of undeath"
Orinkar chuckles.

Kendryth looks up toward the temple.

You see Kendryth Tulurin the Human Paladin.
He appears to be in his 100's, has deep black silver-streaked hair, dark steel-grey eyes, and tanned skin.
He is in good shape.
He is wearing a suit of golden golvern plate traced with dark rolaren filigree, a pair of dark leather boots reinforced with plates of rolaren, a billowing white cape heavily worked with patterns of golden knotwork, a massive white-gold sheath, a dark golden golvern shield inlaid with a lustrous white-gold crown, and a small golden crown pendant.

Orinkar says, "you know when they come back to life"
Orinkar asks, "they gain more power?"
Orinkar peers quizzically at Lurch.

Lurch shakes his head.

Kendryth says, "I do not know how my Lord Prophet stands such tedious meetings."
 
Tolgnarr says, "aye talking is cheap"

Kevralynn begins chuckling at Kendryth.
Kevralynn says, "Aye, what we need is action."

Nofret says, "Why would they gain more power after they return from the dead? No one else does."

Orinkar says, "there's apparenly power in undeath"
Orinkar says, "Luukosian followers have suicide rituals even"
Orinkar stares off into space.

Merryleon asks, "So what's the best course of action... imprisonment?  Some rite of annihilation?"

Kevralynn says, "Death to the snakes."

Orinkar says, "they WANT to die"

Kendryth says, "Those who would walk among you and wear the symbols of the dark have only one weapon against you."

Kendryth says, "Deception."

Kendryth says, "And you need not meet it with a blade."

Aeillien nods to Kendryth.

Kendryth says, "That is the easiest thing to resist, and the worst to succumb to."

Lurch says, "Most of them havent even that much..."
Lurch nods to Kendryth.

Merryleon says, "We were warned by the blind prophet that there is a taint among us, one who appears to be friend but is not."
Merryleon says, "Wish I had some idea of how to ferret such treachery out."

You think to yourself, "Ah, but truth is a much more powerful weapon than lies.."

Kevralynn says, "The Huntress was exiled and betrayed due to deception."
Kevralynn loses some awareness.
Kevralynn says, "I will not make the same mistake."
Kevralynn tightens her grip on her crested vultite shield.

Nofret says, "Actually, I think that people's unreasoning fear is more dangerous than the Luukos followers at this point. Fear can lead to all sorts of assumptions and conclusions which may not be true."

Zusha nods to Nofret.

Kendryth nods.

Merryleon says, "A good point, Nofret."

Nofret nods.

Thaisis says, "It's already happened."
Thaisis nods to Nofret.

Zusha says, "aye.. tis fear"

Kendryth says, "Disinformation spreads and assumptions are made.  Fear follows."

Danay nods to Kendryth.

Aeillien nods to Kendryth.
Aeillien says, "Fear doth be the weapon of the Dark."
Aeillien narrows his eyes.

Merryleon asks, "So, if we were to do the opposite of the information spread among us... we would hug the Luukosians and give them flowers?"

Kendryth says, "This is why information is important.  I am only saddened that I have so little time to acquire it."

Orinkar says, "how do we find the traitor"
Orinkar peers quizzically at Kendryth.

Volsix asks, "So little time?"

Kendryth says, "They are only a threat if you make them, good sir."

Thaumatous says, "So little time sounds... rather ominous."

You hear the voice of Haxley say, "Share what you need to know, Paladin, and I'll see what I can find out."
You hear someone chuckling.

Nofret says, "It seems to me that such fear and assumptions--especially desire to kill--can only serve Sheru, Mularos, V'tull and Luukos. Unreasoning fear, pain, bloodshed and death. Their spheres of influence."
Nofret sighs.

Orinkar nods to Nofret.
Orinkar says, "not to mention it's pointless"
Orinkar chuckles.

Kendryth nods to Nofret.

Kendryth says, "You are correct."

Merryleon says, "So what's the best course of action... imprisonment?  Some rite of annihilation?   Most of us kill threats and they're gone... that in this case they're made stronger... it's baffling."

Nofret curtsies to Kendryth.
Nofret says, "Thank you sir."

Delyorik says, "Evening, Alisaire."

(Aeillien gazes at Alisaire, eyes troubled.)

You ask, "Greetings, Delyorik.  Have you slept any better since last we talked?"

Lurch says, "A most noble assertion, Nofret, but I was never afraid to turn my back on a dead adversary."

Kendryth says, "Do not let them become a threat to you, good sir.  You have the ultimate weapon against them right within you."

Kendryth nods to Merryleon.

Delyorik says, "Truth be told, no."

You furrow your brow, probably adding a wrinkle or two in the process.
You nod to Delyorik.

Delyorik says, "The shadows grow."

You ask, "Perhaps in time, then.  Or have you tried a strong cup of tea?"

Delyorik nods to you.

Orinkar peers quizzically at Kendryth.
Orinkar asks, "knowledge?"

Marietta says, "We should come up with a plan"

Merryleon asks, "Ignoring them?"
Merryleon peers quizzically at Kendryth.

Danay says, "There is already a plan."

Kendryth says, "Knowledge, and a strong and true spirit."

Danay says, "The prophet said they are working on a ritual for the sword."

Merryleon says, "I'm not exactly following."
Merryleon furrows his brow.

Danay says, "And it is warded in the meantime."

Kevralynn nods to Danay.

Delyorik nods to Danay.
Delyorik says, "The wards hold."
Delyorik nods.

Thaisis says, "Do not make sense of it, Merryleon. It's faith. Faith requires none."

Orinkar says, "they're already dead"
Orinkar chuckles.

Kevralynn says, "As well as petitioning for the Silver Gryphons to help."
Kevralynn nods to Lurch.

Merryleon asks, "Faith in what, Thaisis?"

Thaisis says, "Whatever it is you believe in."
Thaisis says, "I do not pretend to know your mind's workings. And I pity any who does."
Thaisis grins at Merryleon.

(Aeillien absently rubs his sword.)

(Delyorik places a hand gently on Aeillien's shoulder.)
Delyorik says, "Peace."
Delyorik nods to Aeillien.

Alisaire smiles faintly and nods to Aeillien.

Kendryth says, "I have met with those who would protect your town in times of strife.  Things go well."

Orinkar says, "was my Captain there"
Orinkar peers quizzically at Kendryth.

Sayori says, "I still hope for a good battle."

Lurch asks, "The Silver Gryphons?  Are they still around?"

Danay says, "Kendryth, if the Amazon Alliance may be of any assistance in your endeavors, please let me know."
Danay bows to Kendryth.

Kendryth says, "There were many organizations there."

(Thaisis looks down at Merryleon's hands, lip curling into a snarl.)

Kendryth nods to Danay.

Orinkar asks, "Sephron of Snar?"

Kendryth says, "He was."

Orinkar nods to Kendryth.
Orinkar says, "good"

Hrothgan says, "As I said before.. my trading Company will help in any way it can."

Merryleon says, "I think I'm lacking on the Knowledge, Kendryth."
Merryleon smiles at Kendryth.

Kendryth says, "Then that would be something for a scholar to fix, or possibly, an empath."

Aeillien asks, "Lord Paladin, Can ye confirm that the Order of Voln, of which one is honored to be a member, shalt be sending a call to arms to send aid here in our time of need?"
Aeillien shifts his eyes to Kendryth.
Aeillien cocks his head at Kendryth.

Merryleon says, "I am unsure about how to not let them become a threat to me.  I was merely in Luukos' shrine, standing there, told to leave and did not when that Priest sucked out my spirit."

Danay says, "That was your mistake Merryleon."

Thaisis asks, "Why were you there?"
Thaisis peers quizzically at Merryleon.

Jonty asks, "why are you here?"

Danay says, "One should not enter the snake's nest and expect to remain untouched."

Kendryth says, "The Order of Voln sent summons to my Lord Prophet and myself.  We were the nearest to the threat, others have been called, but..."

Kendryth shakes his head.

Volsix asks in Elven, "This paladin speaks in riddles, he has been of no real help, ye are all aware of this right?"

Dovezkry says, "when asked to leave you stayed, therefore must take your dues"
Dovezkry shrugs.

Kendryth says, "Darkness gathers quickly."

Misara says, "A smart one at last."
Misara nods to Danay.

Kevralynn nods to Kendryth.

(Delyorik glances around.  He appears quite calm, but an uneasy glint rests in his eyes.)

Nofret says, "Considering the numbers of Luukosians, Sheruvians, Ivasians, Marluvians and other Lornonites in Voln..."

Merryleon says, "I forget why I was there, good question."
Merryleon says, "I think I followed Ardwen."

You think to yourself, "Talk not too much.. Not just yet."
You lean back.

Aeillien says, "Aye, one understands. They shalt arrive as soon as they may, better late than never."

Volsix says in Elven, "All we've asked has been met with the obvious, if we seek insight perhaps we'll need better questions."

Kendryth says in Elven, "Then ask."

Kendryth smiles at Volsix.

Marietta says, "Kendryth"
Marietta asks, "what do we do to keep up these wards?"

Delyorik bows to Kendryth.

Danay says in Elven, "He is a warrior, he is not here to spread philosophy Volsix."

Volsix says in Elven, "Ye speak elven I see."
Volsix says in Elven, "A rare talent for a human."

Kevralynn says, "Indeed"

Nofret asks, "Kendryth! You are human. How is it that you can speak elven so well?"

Volsix says in Elven, "He is a paladin, they are more than warriors."

Lurch says, "We need to undertake this effort as a confederation of free peoples working toward a common goal."

Kevralynn nods to Lurch.

Merryleon asks, "While I shall endeavour to find a scholar or book, Kendryth... what is it that I should ask them about?  Defense against Luukosians?  How to combat them?"

Kendryth says, "Mestanir was a place of learning... before the troubles came."

Delyorik says, "Traveled folks usually speak the language of those places they have been."
Delyorik smiles.

Nofret nods to Kendryth.
Nofret says, "I am sorry for your troubles."

Danay asks, "Is that where you hail from?"
Danay peers quizzically at Kendryth.

Volsix says, "What I ask is guidance, from one so well versed in what should be done, or what is going on. Thus far I've heard little but talk of the enemies and their deceit."

Lurch says, "We all have our own faiths, some of which conflict one another... we have orders, and allegiances... but this effort must be above all of these things."

Sayori says, "We all choose our own troubles."

Kendryth says, "It was once my home, but no longer."

Merryleon asks, "which troubles came?"

Nofret says, "Mestanir. Now conquered by Hochstib of Jantalar."
A pained expression crosses Nofret's face.

Sayori says, "Hochstib is such an ugly little name."

Kendryth says, "Guidance?  There is naught but I can give, I know not the lay of your land, and I have consulted with those who do.  My forte is battle, but I am hard-pressed to learn all I can of the threat which grows closer with each night."

Kendryth says, "I am guiding as best I can, good sir."

Aeillien nods to Kendryth.

Lurch says, "Well.. I suppose that gives us a couple of things in common."

Orinkar says, "some of us know peices of the threath"
Orinkar nods to Kendryth.

Volsix says, "I had thought ye were called for other reasons, I apologize. Perhaps it is your prophet I should speak with."

Merryleon says, "I'm surprised to hear you speak of Battle, Kendryth."

Aeillien says, "Thy courage, thy competence, and thy bravery art not in doubt, Lord Knight."
Aeillien bows to Kendryth.

Danay says, "You will find that while the Landing is full of individualists, we are also good at banding together to fight off common enemies. That has been our strength so far."
Danay smiles at Kendryth.

Kendryth says, "My Lord Prophet has seen conflict... great conflict.  I can only assume the worse, and prepare."

Merryleon says, "The one solid piece of information I've learned this night is to kill a Luukosian makes it stronger."

Orinkar says, "gains 'em favor anyway"
Orinkar says, "persecuted for their faith"
Orinkar says, "yes let's all go out and make Luukosian martyrs"
Orinkar chuckles.

Volsix says, "The prophet is who I seek. I have answers, answers that only he might answer, either him or a commune with Lorminstra herself."
Volsix says, "Untill then, I stand guard."
Volsix folds his arms over his chest.
Volsix says, "My life for this sword."

Kendryth says, "You are a mixed bunch, I will admit that.  But hearty."

Danay begins chuckling at Kendryth.
Danay nods.

Sayori says, "The landing defeated the four gods before."
Sayori nods to Kendryth.
Sayori says, "I foresee the victory of the Landing. Both through sight and evidence."

Merryleon says, "Sounds like all I can do is kill anything non-Luukosian"

Hrothgan asks, "conflict eh?"
Hrothgan says, "I smell a tremendous profit to be had"
Hrothgan drools.

Sayori says, "Fortunately there will be bloodshed."
Sayori says, "It will be grand."

Kendryth says something in Giantman.

Merryleon says, "Kendryth.  The one solid piece of information I've learned this night is to kill a Luukosian makes it stronger.  You need not give guidance in the form of battle plans, I was asking what it is along the lines of a scholar or book would you have I and others learn to combat without futility."
Merryleon bows to Kendryth.

Lurch says, "I spoil for this fight."

(Danay rests her hand on the hilt of her broadsword)

Volsix says, "I will not, the only thing that will change my mind is the prophet, or the Lady herself."
Volsix folds his arms over his chest.
Volsix says, "Untill then, all I offer is all that I can. I will guard this blade with my life, do not ask more."

Kendryth says, "I too, am quite in the dark as you.  I only assume that this evil will seek battle.  I can only give you advice on the threat I see now among you, and it is lies and deception.  I fight what is in front of me, and plan for what might soon be in front of me."

Lurch says, "You are a good man, sir."

Nofret says, "I do not, somehow, think that the dark gods will seek merely to repeat what did not work last time."
Nofret says, "I think that they will do battle, but I suspect that they are more devious than that."

Aeillien ponders.

Thaisis says, "They already battle, Nofret."

Delyorik says, "I wonder..."
Delyorik rubs his chin thoughtfully.

Danay says, "Plans within plans I am sure."
Danay nods to Nofret.

Lurch says, "If such a fight comes, you may count me at your side."
Lurch nods to Kendryth.

Kendryth says, "I am thankful for that."

Kendryth smiles.

Kevralynn says, "And me. The Huntress will do all to rid the lands of such a scourge."

Merryleon says, "It is an odd comfort to know you are as in the dark as I."

Delyorik closes his eyes for a moment.
Delyorik slowly empties his lungs.

Nofret says, "Not all in Voln may fight."
Nofret says, "Some of those in Voln may have other allegiances."

Orinkar says, "they'll use very low devious tactics that's for sure, they've already seen direct battle doesn't work here"
Orinkar chuckles.

Dovezkry says, "well seein as I am not the brightest cob off the field, you big word type people figure out what they are palnning and all that, I shall kill anything that comes to take this sword in the meantime"

Lurch says, "The people of this town will remain vigilant.. and they will fight, for whatever God, order, or purpose they may serve"
Lurch nods to Kendryth.

Merryleon says, "If you knew not before tonight, I hope you take with you the fact that Luukosians return stronger when slain, Kendryth."

Sayori says, "Merryleon, that's not true."

Merryleon asks, "It's not, Sayori?"

Sayori says, "Luukos gains from their death."
Sayori says, "But usually they do not benefit from failure."

Orinkar says, "when they return in undeath"
Orinkar glances at Sayori.
Orinkar says, "if they've gained that much favor"

Sayori says, "I would imagine they return refreshed, if allowed."

Orinkar says, "they can and will return more powerful"
Orinkar says, "look at the lichs"

Lurch says, "We will strike them down, dead or alive."
Lurch says, "It matters not."

Sayori says, "Only if they please their god."

Orinkar says, "there is power in undead"

Danay nods to Lurch.

Orinkar says, "and oddly"
Orinkar says, "some manage it"
Orinkar grins at Sayori.
Orinkar says, "they want to be killed"

Delyorik says, "Curiouser and curiouser....."
Delyorik smiles softly, a dark look in his eyes.


[The conversation begins to twist and turn, and Kendryth does not take part in it.  He eventually takes his leave.]


Kendryth furrows his brow.

Kendryth says, "I must return to the meetings with my Lord Prophet."

Kendryth bows.

Kendryth says, "Thank you for the good conversation, citizens."

Kendryth quietly strides into the temple's halls.
