The blade was crafted by the powerful wizard Jaxillar and given to Selantha as a sign of her new power. The sword played a critical part in the defeat of the Ice Witch Issyldra in the hands of Llaestal Anodheles, which resulted in the end of the Witch Winter. In the 5103 Second Hunt for History, run by the Loremasters, a replica of Searswathe was offered as a prize.
