Skinning is a method by which the pelt or other valuable part of a creature is removed after the creature has been killed. It utilizes the Verb:SKIN verb.

Successfully extracting a skin and the value of the skin is determined by a character's training in First Aid and Survival, the weapon used, whether or not the character is kneeling, the character's dexterity, whether the creature was damaged in the relevant area for its skin type, and how difficult the creature is to skin. Dagger-based weapons are the preferred skinning tool for most jobs (and yield the same bonus regardless of noun), however some creatures require blunt weapons to skin instead. When blunt weaponry is called for, mace and war hammer yield the best bonus, with military pick and war mattock close behind.

Usage

Main article: Verb:SKIN
USAGE: SKIN {CREATURE} [WITH {WEAPON}]
       SKIN {CREATURE} LEFT
       SKIN {CREATURE} RIGHT
If no weapon or hand is specified, it will default to any object held in your right hand. TARGET can replace a creature name, and will attempt to skin your current target.

EXAMPLE: SKIN KOBOLD WITH LONGSWORD
         SKIN THIRD ORC
         SKIN TROLL KING LEFT

Examples of skins with further functions include firethorns, which are obtained from skinning a firethorn shoot, and shiny vor'taz horns, which are sometimes obtained while skinning a horned vor'taz. Firethorns heal poison when eaten, while shiny vor'taz horns are imbeddable.

Many different creature skins can be required components when doing Alchemy. They can also be used as components for different types of crafting including Warrior sheath making, cobbling, and other item-based crafting systems.

Skin Qualities

The order of skin qualities is: crude, poor, fair, fine, exceptional, outstanding, superb, magnificent.

If "decent shape" is ever seen when appraising skins, then the appraise attempt failed.
