Blunt weapons came into common use due to plate armors which were commonly worn by nobility on the battlefields. Lighter weapons such as short swords usually could not puncture or crush plate armors effectively, so heavier blunt weapons or spiked weapons such as the crowbill, war hammer, and morning star came into common use. Although designed to be used against those in plate or chainmail armor, the weapons are still very effective against those who are not.

Blunt weapons are less commonly used than edged weapons among adventurers, and some professions require higher training point costs to become proficient at wielding them. The purpose of most blunt weapons is to crush. Many of these weapons also deal puncture damage due to added spikes. One-handed blunt weapons are small and light enough to be wielded in a single hand, allowing the user to make use of a shield or a second weapon if so desired.

Blunt weapons are less commonly used than edged weapons among adventurers, and some professions require higher training point costs to become proficient at wielding them. Blunt weapons tend to be quite effective against chain and plate armors, having higher damage factors against those armor types. The morning star, notably, has the highest damage factors against all armor types among one-handed weapons. Specialization in crushing damage also makes blunt weapons a potent choice for aimed attacks to the head, where a sufficiently powerful strike will guarantee a fatal blow.
