Deepening is a commonly offered merchant service in which a player can have the capacity of his/her containers increased. Players may use the INSPECT verb to see how much their containers hold, and the ANALYZE verb to see if the container is already at maximum capacity, or may be worked on by a merchant.
GameMasters are limited to how much they can deepen a container at a time (10% of current capacity), and there are standards set for how much a container can hold based on its weight, description (e.g., sheath, harness, backpack, apron), and the slot in the character's inventory it occupies (e.g., back, cloak, shoulder/back, belt).
Prior to February 2016, containers had to be fully deepened before being lightened in order to maximize the capacity of the container, but that is only the case now if one lightens an item below the minimum weight for the item's set maximum capacity for its worn location. For example, a cloak's minimum weight is 6 lbs for the maximum allowed standard of 140 lbs. If the item is taken to 5 lbs, then the maximum capacity will be lower and, thus, the order matters now only once the minimum weight for maximum capacity is reached. Epic deepening does not have any minimum weight restrictions, and during that service maximum capacity may be taken above the standard maximums.
CLARIFICATION NOTE: Lightening notes, and general lightening merchants, will not lighten a container below the minimum weight for its current capacity. Therefore, if the goal is to achieve the lightest and deepest container then you should fully lighten it before deepening it as deepening notes will exceed the small maximum.
Standard Lightening and Deepening Levels Worn Location Minimum
Weight (lbs)Maximum Capacity (lbs) Cloak & back-worn 6 140 Cloak & back-worn 5 120 Cloak & back-worn 4 90 Shoulder-slung 3 60 All others 2 varies based on location All others <1 ≤5
Automated Deepening Certificates
At the June 2017 run of Return to Delirium Manor, certificates were introduced to automate the deepening of a container with a variety of how much the certificate would deepen and maximum of what it would deepen to. REDEEM the ticket with the container in hand to use. Some examples are listed below:
Bright Viridian Note
In the Common language, it reads: This note can be REDEEMed to increase an appropriate item's capacity by 30 pounds up to a maximum of: Back and shoulder containers: 180 pounds Slung on shoulder containers: 80 pounds Torso, attached to belt, and front containers: 60 pounds NOTE: If your item's capacity limit is lower than the service amount, the item is ineligible. Tiny and extremely tiny containers are also ineligible for use with this note.
Pale Viridian Note
In the Common language, it reads: This note can be REDEEMed to increase an appropriate item's capacity by 30 pounds up to a maximum of: Back and shoulder containers: 140 pounds Slung on shoulder containers: 60 pounds Torso, attached to belt, and front containers: 40 pounds NOTE: If your item's capacity limit is lower than the service amount, the item is ineligible. Tiny and extremely tiny containers are also ineligible for use with this note.
Pale Blue Note
In the Common language, it reads: This note can be REDEEMed to increase an appropriate item's capacity by 25 pounds up to a maximum of: Back and shoulder containers: 140 pounds Slung on shoulder containers: 60 pounds Torso, attached to belt, and front containers: 40 pounds NOTE: If your item's capacity limit is lower than the service amount, the item is ineligible. Tiny and extremely tiny containers are also ineligible for use with this note.
Light Pink Note
In the Common language, it reads: This note can be REDEEMed to increase an appropriate item's capacity by 10 pounds up to a maximum of: Back and shoulder containers: 200 pounds Slung on shoulder containers: 100 pounds Torso, attached to belt, and front containers: 60 pounds NOTE: If your item's capacity limit is lower than the service amount, the item is ineligible. Tiny and extremely tiny containers are also ineligible for use with this note.
