The Shield Cape was released at the August 2019 run of Duskruin Arena in the Shield Thyself shop by GameMaster Thandiwe. A Shield Cape is a new outerwear garment that is attached to the left wrist by a large bangle of some kind, it is drawn across the left arm and shoulder before dipping down the back (it is Aelotoi friendly after all) and hugs the right ribcage before being pinned across the chest at the left shoulder by a large brooch of some kind. Shield Capes, once unlocked, provide a chance to block an incoming physical or magical attack. This percentage increases with each tier. The bangle and brooch can be removed, replaced, and customized. Off-the-ShelfUsage
Tier 1The Shield Cape has a 1% chance to block an incoming attack with at least one open hand. There is a 50% reduction in the ability if you do not have at least one open hand. A runestaff or two-handed weapon-wielder gets the 50% reduction.Tier 2The Shield Cape has a 2% chance to block an incoming attack when there is at least one open hand. There is a 50% reduction in the ability if you do not have at least one open hand. A runestaff or two-handed weapon-wielder gets the 50% reduction. It loses its locked status and gains access to the following verbs: close, hug, openUsage
Tier 3The Shield Cape has a 3% chance to block an incoming attack when there is at least one open hand. There is a 50% reduction in the ability if you do not have at least one open hand. A runestaff or two-handed weapon-wielder gets the 50% reduction. It also gains an auto-close feature and access to the following verbs: flip, nudge, tapUsage
Tier 4The Shield Cape has a 4% chance to block an incoming attack when there is at least one open hand. There is a 50% reduction in the ability if you do not have at least one open hand. A runestaff or two-handed weapon-wielder gets the 50% reduction. It also gains access to the following verbs: bow, cover, rubUsage
Tier 5The Shield Cape has a 5% chance to block an incoming attack when there is at least one open hand. There is a 50% reduction in the ability if you do not have at least one open hand. A runestaff or two-handed weapon-wielder gets the 50% reduction. It also gains access to the following verbs: attend, pinch, snuggle, tiltAnalyzeA multi-hued parrot feather cape is part of the Shield Cape Collection, which was purchased at Duskruin in the shop "Shield Thyself". It is a passive defense item that has a chance to block an incoming blow. The chance increases with each tier that is unlocked. If the wearer has no weapons in his hands, no shield/runesetaff, or is using a bow/crossbow, then he gets the full benefit of the cape. Otherwise the chance is halved. Currently, a multi-hued parrot feather cape is 5 out of 5 tiers, which provides a 5% chance to block an incoming blow. It also has access to the following verbs: attend, bow, close, cover, flip, hug, nudge, open, pinch, pull (removes brooch), push (adds brooch), snuggle, remove, rub, tap, tilt, turn (removes bangle), twist (adds bangle), wear The Auto-closure feature has been unlocked. Brooch Data: (Upgraded Brooch) A metallic quintuple-ringed brooch inset with vari-colored cabochons can be changed by using PULL to remove the brooch and PUSH to add a new one. Please note, only specialized brooches will work. Once your brooch is upgraded from the default piece, it unlocks a 50% chance to retain a charge within it for each successful block. When the brooch reaches 10 charges, it automatically flares and absorbs all of the charges. Bangle Data: (Upgraded Bangle - Flare Type - Lightning) An abalone shell-inlaid bangle can be changed by using TURN to remove the bangle and TWIST to add a new one. Please note, only specialized bangles will work. Once your bangle is upgraded from the default piece, it provides an additional 25% chance to absorb a charge. It will not provide this additional percentage chance if the brooch is not upgraded. Additionally, bangles can have special unlocks to change the flare type. There are currently 4 charges stored in this parrot feather cape. You may alter a multi-hued parrot feather cape freely providing it does not contradict the messaging. The cape can never be a jacket, a longcoat, a coat, a robe, or any similar nouns based on its design. Nor will it ever have a hood. This garment will attach at the left wrist by an abalone shell-inlaid bangle, slide over the arm and across the left shoulder. It will then dip down the back (under wings for the Aelotoi), under the right arm, and can be pulled across the chest so that it is pinned at the left shoulder with a metallic quintuple-ringed brooch inset with vari-colored cabochons. You might be able to have a talented merchant lighten the parrot feather cape for you or deepen its pockets. Usage
BangleUpgrade your bangle to provide a boost to your brooch that will give it an additional 25% chance to absorb a charge AND the upgrade allows you to change your reactive ability from impact to one of the following flare types: fire, cold, lightning, vacuum, disintegrate, unbalance, acid, plasma, steam, or magma.
A smoke-filled blown glass bangle is part of the Shield Cape Collection, which was purchased at Duskruin in the shop "Shield Thyself". It is the default bangle used in a Shield Cape. This may be altered freely provided it remains a solid, circular item for a wrist. While both long and show descriptions are supported, once it is in place on the Shield Cape the only thing that will be visible is a long description. You get no sense of whether or not the bangle may be further lightened. Analyze, UpgradedAn abalone shell-inlaid bangle is part of the Shield Cape Collection, which was purchased at Duskruin in the shop "Shield Thyself". It can be used to upgrade a Shield Cape that has an upgraded brooch pinned to it, giving an additional 25% chance to retain a single charge per successful block and by changing the default flare to Lightning. Once the Shield Cape has absorbed 10 charges, it will discharge a flare at the attacking person/creature. You may add this to your current Shield Cape by TURNing the cape to remove the current bangle from its casing and TWISTing this one into place. This may be altered freely provided it remains a solid, circular item for a wrist. While both long and show descriptions are supported, once it is in place on the Shield Cape the only thing that will be visible is a long description. You get no sense of whether or not the bangle may be further lightened. BroochUpgrade your brooch to gain a reactive ability. Each time you block an incoming attack, there is a 50% chance that it will absorb a charge. Once it has absorbed 10 charges, on the 11th block it will automatically reactively flare with impact damage.
A ruby-inset gold filigree fibula is part of the Shield Cape Collection, which was purchased at Duskruin in the shop "Shield Thyself". It is the default brooch used in a Shield Cape. This may be altered freely provided that it remains a brooch-like item. While both long and show descriptions are supported, once it is in place on the Shield Cape the only thing that will be visible is a long description. You get no sense of whether or not the fibula may be further lightened. Once the Shield Cape has absorbed 10 charges, it will discharge a flare at the attacking person/creature. While both long and show descriptions are supported, once it is in place on the Shield Cape the only thing that will be visible is a long description. You get no sense of whether or not the brooch may be further lightened. Upgraded Brooch Flare MessagingMoving your left arm into a defensive position, your red tartan wool cape suddenly flares to life as blue energy forms a shield in front of you that turns solid enough to block a gremlock's incoming blow. As the energy flows away from the cape on your defensive arm, a small portion of it seems to be absorbed into the attached holly wreath clasp. Crackling and flashing, a decorative holly wreath clasp encircled by carnelians attached to the left shoulder of your red tartan wool cape suddenly explodes with a brilliant flash of blue energy that quickly encompasses a gremlock! ... 20 points of damage! Blow connects right below right eye! The gremlock is stunned! Additional InformationThis cape does not require any specialized skills to function. It is a separate chance to block from block. The cloak can block magical bolt spells and melee attacks. This does not count as a shield for any combat maneuvers, guild tricks, or spells. See Also |
