Spirit Slayer summons a spirit which appears as a "mote of white light" surrounding the caster. This spirit lies dormant for the duration but can "flare with blinding brilliance," re-casting single-target offensive spells cast by its wearer. The effect also imparts a bonus to the bolt attack strength or casting strength during subsequent attacks.

Mechanics of Spirit Slayer

Spirit Slayer lasts for 30 seconds and is refreshable (does not stack duration). While the effect is active, it has a chance of duplicating any single-target attack spell that comes from one's own spell knowledge (spells from scrolls and magic items will not trigger the spirit). Each time the spirit is activated it will duplicate the attack precisely (spell used and foe targeted). Recasts are automated and instantaneous, and will never cost the user additional mana.

It is best to use low level attack spells since the higher the level of spell, the less likely the spirit will recast. Each attack made has a random chance to ignite the spirit, causing it to repeat the attack one or more times. The possibility of recasts will continue through the duration of the spell.

  • The spirit will cease its assault immediately if the original target dies.
  • Magic channeled at the target is still considered channeled when the spirit repeats it.
  • Area spells such as Searing Light are never duplicated, but ball spells with splash effect such as Fire Spirit can be.
  • If ensorcell is activated during the initial damage, the acuity bonus will affect the secondary, higher portion of the Spirit Slayer:
Abruptly, you sense the attention of your spirit slayer focus upon an <creature>. The pattern of your spell is wrested away from you as the mote of white light flares with blinding brilliance.

Factors Affecting Spirit Slayer

  • More powerful magic is less likely to be re-cast than less powerful spells.

The level of the spell greatly influences the spirit's capability to replicate it. The probability of recasts decreases exponentially as the level of attack spell increases.

The base probability for a second strike begins at 60% and is increased by 2% for every bonus corresponding to seed 1 of the summation chart (max 98% first recast at 190 ranks). Subsequent recasts are exponentially less likely than the preceding one, but the probability for each additional recast is also increased by this training.

A base of +25 AS or CS is added to all recasts the spirit makes. This bonus is increased by 1 for every bonus corresponding to seed 5 of the summation chart (max of +45 total at 290 ranks).
