Pup Tents are portable items that players can set up in outdoor, outside of town rooms. There are two tiers.

Tents will collapse after 20 minutes of the owner not being inside. Guests will be tossed out if the tent collapses. The owner has five minutes to fold up the tent before the janitor will clean it up. Tents and items left on the ground in tents are subject to normal game mechanics and will not be returned if lost, but may be recoverable at the Adventurer's Guild.

These rooms should not be considered private for vulgarity or OOC reasons.

Tier 1

First tier tents hold 2 people only, including the owner. Tents are not critter proof; you may not STAND your tent while enemies are present, and if a creature enters while the tent is standing, the tent will collapse and knock you, your guest, and your stuff out.

Analyze

You analyze your brown canvas tent and sense that the item is largely free from merchant alteration restrictions, but the creator has stated that "The item type should not change."

The creator has also provided the following information:

This is a standard tent and will be knocked down by hostile creatures. The owner may have one guest. This tent has been unlocked to accommodate an additional five guests.

The standing version of the tent may be altered with a long description, but not a show. The description must include "canvas tent." The interior of the tent may be changed by rare merchants as a delayed service, of for Premium Points via Sadie Scroll.

Exterior:
a brown canvas tent

Interior:
[Vanah's Tent]
Hanging from the tent poles above is an unlit dark silver lantern. A white polar bear skin rug spreads across the ground beside a coiled cream silk basket. The scent of fresh-baked cookies permeates the air.

The room interior can be altered to reference a placed lantern, bedroll, storage container, trash can, or scent. If not referenced, additional sentences will be appended to display them. There is a 511 character limit total on the room descriptions. Any items not referenced will show in the room as "You also see...". The items will not be linked in the room description; you can ANALYZE inside the tent to see the items that are placed there to interact with.

You can STAND the tent to pitch it, and FOLD it to take it down. You can also CLEAN, LEAN, or KNOCK on the tent.

PLACE the following items in your tent to store or remove them from the room:
* Perfume bottles, oil lamps and oils, or incense to impart a temporary fragrance to the tent. This will temporarily override the custom fragrance of fresh-baked cookies, which will be restored the next time the tent is erected. The scent is currently: fresh-baked cookies
* One General Store lantern or torch, which can then be lit to light the room: a glass-paned dark silver lantern is currently placed in the tent.
* One General Store bedroll; meditation mat; prayer rug; or folding chair: a white polar bear skin rug is currently placed in the tent.
* One Pup Tent Storage Container: a coiled cream silk basket is currently placed in the tent.

INVITE guests who are outside the tent inside.
PROD the tent flap to allow open access to the tent.
VERB First Third
STAND You quickly unfold the ivory canvas tent, pull out the stakes, and spread it all out on the correct spot of ground. After a quick moment of pulling and standing, an ivory canvas tent is upright and ready to go.

Roundtime: 5 sec.

Vanah quickly unfolds the brown canvas tent, pulls out the stakes, and spreads it all out on the correct spot of ground. After a quick moment of pulling and standing, a brown canvas tent is upright and ready to go.
CLEAN You briskly rub dust, leaves, bird poo, and other detritus from the surface of the tent. This section has not been added yet; please add to it now!
KNOCK You rap against an ivory canvas tent with your knuckles, trying to attract the attention of those inside. This section has not been added yet; please add to it now!
LEAN You attempt to lean against the tent, but as it's only a thin canvas shell it begins to give way under your weight, causing you to pinwheel your arms in a wild attempt to right yourself. This section has not been added yet; please add to it now!
PROD You roll up a tent flap and secure it above the entrance, allowing open access to the tent. Vanah rolls up a tent flap and secures it above the entrance, allowing open access to the tent.
PROD You undo the ties holding a rolled-up tent flap open and allow it to fall across the entrance, blocking open access to the tent. Vanah undoes the ties holding a rolled-up tent flap open and allows it to fall across the entrance, blocking open access to the tent.
SNIFF You sniff the air, detecting wild roses. None
INVITE You peek your head outside the tent flap and invite Wyrom to enter. Vanah sticks her head outside a brown canvas tent and invites you to enter.

Type GO brown canvas tent to accept this invitation.

FOLD You methodically unhook the body of the ivory canvas tent from the stakes and fold it back up into a neat bundle. This section has not been added yet; please add to it now!

Tier 2

Large tents won via raffle or auction are exempt from creature rules and can be pitched with critters present, and will not collapse when critters are present. The capacity of these large tents is 4 people.

Analyze

This tent is an auction-quality tent. It will withstand knockdown by creatures and can hold three guests.
The standing version of the tent may be altered with a long description, but not a show. The description must include "canvas tent." The interior of the tent may be changed by rare merchants as a delayed service, of for Premium Points via Sadie Scroll.

Interior:
[Weather's Reprive]
The interior walls reflect the soft rose glow of the hanging antique bronze and stained glass candle lanterns. The delicate scent of wild roses permeates the air. Thick, rose vine-patterned carpets cover the floor, and large, luxurious ivory silk pillows are scattered about for comfortable resting. A small, folding table holding paper, a quill, and an inkwell, is placed to one side, a soft rose cashmere throw and a pair of fluffy deep rose slippers tucked beneath it.

PLACE the following items in your tent to store or remove them from the room:
* Perfume bottles, oil lamps and oils, or incense to impart a temporary fragrance to the tent. The scent is currently: wild roses
* One General Store lantern or torch, which can then be lit to light the room: None.
* One General Store bedroll; meditation mat; prayer rug; or folding chair: None.
* One Pup Tent Storage Container: None.

INVITE guests who are outside the tent inside.
PROD the tent flap to allow open access to the tent.

This tent can be lightened by one pound until it reaches two pounds.

Additional Information

  • A tent that is standing can be left unattended for 20 minutes before it will collapse. Be aware that GM advice is to not leave it unattended.
  • In its collapsed state (example - a collapsed blue canvas tent), it will be safe for 5 minutes where only the owner can can collect it. After the 5 minute window, it may be collected by the janitor and recovered via janitor recovery.
  • Anything that causes a tent to collapse, including interactions from critters and other effects will put it in this vulnerable state.
  • A tent will not collapse if it is occupied by its owner, unless a creature knocks it over or if the owner dies.
  • The pup tent script will check (every 10 seconds) for the presence of its owner (the person who uses STAND to place the tent). If the owner is not in the tent or in the room outside the tent, the tent will collapse after the 20 minutes, even if occupied by other characters.

Unlocks

  • Trash Can
  • Additional Guests (up to 100)
  • In town
  • Creature Proof

Storage

Pup Tent Storage containers can be purchased and hold 5 items up to 10 pounds total. Unlocks are available for additional 5 items and 10 pounds, up to 100 items for 200 pounds. This is not weightless storage; the container is stored in the folded tent and will add to the character's encumbrance if the tent is in the character's inventory.

One floor item and one lightsource can be stored in the tent and will automatically be placed out when the tent is erected.

Alteration Rules

Generally, you can write a room description 511 characters or less, and a GM will work with you to make it work with the tent script.

The interior room description of the pup tent changes dynamically based on the items PLACEd inside. Custom room descriptions can use placeholders for these PLACEd items that will change based on what is currently in the room.

  • [TRASH] - trash can alteration is a separate service
  • [RUG]
  • [SCENT]
  • [LANTERN]
  • [CONTAINER]

The description is built in the following order. If at any point the option would push the description over 511 characters, it is not added, and any referenced item shows up as "You also see..." instead of built into the room description.

First comes an optional lead in sentence. This can incorporate any or no placeholder except the [LANTERN]. It could be one sentence or multiple.

Following the lead in are the [LANTERN] options. You have three:

  • A description when no [LANTERN] is placed
  • A description when a [LANTERN] is placed and unlit
  • A description when a [LANTERN] is placed and lit.

If a lantern is PLACEd in the room, and no custom description is provided, the description will be:

  • Unlit: Hanging from the tent poles above is an unlit [LANTERN].
  • Lit: Hanging from the tent poles above is [LANTERN].

If a trash can is in the room, has not been referenced earlier, and there's room to add the description, it will add:

  • Container present, but not already referenced: [TRASH] is tucked into one corner of the tent beside [CONTAINER].
  • Otherwise: [TRASH] is tucked into one corner of the tent.

If a floor item is PLACEd in the room, has not been referenced earlier, and there's room to add the description, it will add:

  • [CHAIR] rests in the center of the tent (beside [CONTAINER] if applicable).
  • [RUG] spreads across the ground (beside [CONTAINER] if applicable).
  • [MAT] stretches across the ground (beside [CONTAINER] if applicable).

If a tent storaget container is PLACEd in the room, has not been referenced earlier, and there's room to add the description, it will add:

  • [CONTAINER] rests in the center of the tent.

If none of the above apply, the description will start:

  • The interior of the tent is pretty sparse. Bits of sand and dirt are scattered across the ground.

If there is still room in the 511 characters and no scent has been referenced earlier, it will add:

  • The scent of [SCENT] permeates the air.
Example

Original Tent Description:

[In the Shade of the Date Palm]
A canopy of ahmdir blue under a raised golden damask lines the interior of this modest, square tent. Punctuated by the scent of a subtle mixture of anise, clove, and vanilla, a series of squared cushions patterned with simple arabesques lay piled into a corner to form an adequate option for a comfortable rest. A small copper brazier, its softly glowing briquettes providing a modicum of light, is positioned in the center of the tent atop a large striped carpet of cinnamon-hued tones. You also see a tent flap.
Obvious exits: none

Under the new rules, this should be altered as:

  • Name: In the Shade of the Date Palm
  • Lead in: A canopy of ahmdir blue under a raised golden damask lines the interior of this modest, square tent. Punctuated by the scent of [SCENT], [RUG] is piled into a corner to form an adequate option for a comfortable rest.
  • Lit Lantern: [LANTERN], its softly glowing briquettes providing a modicum of light, is positioned in the center of the tent atop a large striped carpet of cinnamon-hued tones.
  • Unlit Lantern: An unlit [LANTERN] is positioned in the center of the tent atop a large striped carpet of cinnamon-hued tones.
  • No lantern: A small copper brazier, its softly glowing briquettes providing a modicum of light, is positioned in the center of the tent atop a large striped carpet of cinnamon-hued tones.
  • Scent: a subtle mixture of anise, clove, and vanilla
