Custom resurrections are a type of advanced spell customization that change the resurrection messaging associated with either the Raise Dead (318) or Divine Word (1640) spells. Pre-written custom resurrections are available at various festivals, pay events, and at Bayview Villa on Mist Harbor. Fully custom resurrections are a delayed service when the player is writing their own. Custom resurrection is part of the Player Customization System and is managed via the CUSTOM verb.
Custom resurrection messaging consists of first, second, and third person messaging for when either Raise Dead or Divine Word is cast on a dead character.
Examples of custom resurrections include the following from Rumor Woods:
1P: You implore the spirits of nature, and soon buzzing noises fill the air. A single bee alights upon Character's lifeless body, soon followed by another, and another. Within the blink of an eye, hundreds and then thousands of buzzing bees envelop the corpse. As the noise rises to an insectoid cacaphony, the bees suddenly fly off, revealing Character, very much alive. 2P: Cleric implores the spirits of nature, and soon buzzing noises fill the air. A single bee alights upon your lifeless body, soon followed by another, and another. Within the blink of a living person's eye, hundreds and then thousands of bees envelop your corpse. As the noise rises to an insectoid cacaphony, you feel a warm sensation spreading through your body. 3P: Cleric implores the spirits of nature, and soon buzzing noises fill the air. A single bee alights upon Character's lifeless body, soon followed by another, and another. Within the blink of an eye, hundreds and then thousands of buzzing bees envelop the corpse. As the noise rises to an insectoid cacaphony, the bees suddenly fly off, revealing Character, very much alive. 1P: Allowing your hand to hover over Character's forehead and heart, you let your eyes slip closed and concentrate on your breathing. After several long moments, you will the breath back into her body, visualizing the heart beating, the lungs expanding, and all the little electrical currents that the brain uses to make these things happen. Slowly, you push this vision into Character, drawing her back to life. 2P: Cleric places her hands over your forehead and heart, letting them hover scant inches from your lifeless flesh. She closes her eyes, and you sense a deep peace that connects your souls to one another. Flashes of life flutter about you. A stray beat of your heart. An expansion of your chest. Then, in a rush, you feel life fully return as your connection to the peace that surrounds Cleric fades away. 3P: Cleric's hand hovers over Character's forehead and heart as her eyes slip closed. A peaceful look of meditative concentration settles over her features as she remains nearly motionless at Character's side. A small smile touches her lips, as in a rush Character gasps with life. 1P: You approach Character, gazing down at her lifeless body as you extend your foot, prodding her gently to confirm the lack of breath. In an attempt to avoid expending more energy, you kneel close to Character as you lift her arms, letting out a sigh of annoyance as they flop back to her sides with no sign of viable life. Channeling the minimal amount of energy possible, you flick Character's forehead hard, mentally summoning life back into her body as she gasps loudly, the exchange hopefully over as quick as it occurred. 2P: Cleric approaches you, gazing down at your lifeless body as she extends her foot, prodding somewhere as she mutters to herself. A series of grumbles follows as she kneels close, the mumbles growing louder as Cleric squints at your face, reaching up to sharply flick at your forehead. You feel a surge of electricity course through your body as the air fills your once empty lungs, the ordeal leaving Cleric grumpily staring at you for a moment before her attention is diverted once more. 3P: Cleric gazes down at Character, nudging her unmoving body with her foot with a dissatisfied look upon her face. She kneels down to take a closer inspection, lifting Character's arms to watch them flop back to the ground, and Cleric mumbles to herself before flicking Character's forehead. Character's limbs begin to flail as breath returns to her lungs, and Cleric shrugs nonchalantly at her before something else grabs her attention.
