Library book

Library books are scripted books that can be checked out from various libraries across Elanthia. Each book has information in it that can be read, which ranges from various official documents that were also released in game to in character publications from various NPCs. While they are technically a separate script from Gloumerrick books, their messaging is the same and they function identically outside of the system to check them out. Analyze Before checking out: This is a library book and may be bored from this library by GETTING the book off the shelf and one of the library's assistance will rent it out to you for 2,000 silvers. You may also READ it while it is on the shelf. Verbs trapped are: READ, LOOK (in), SHOW, CLOSE, OPEN, TURN, FLIP, WEAR. After checking out: The green suede volume must be returned to the librarian in room the Library in Solhaven by the due date, which is on 12/29/2025 09:55:36 CST. OPEN You open the white leather compendium. Person opens her white leather compendium. READ Displays the current page's text. Person quietly reads her white leather compendium. SHOW You turn your white leather compendium around and display its pages to Other Person. Person turns her white leather compendium around and lets you glimpse at its pages... TURN You turn to page 2 of your white leather compendium. Person flips through her white leather compendium. Additional Information Checking Out Library Books Library books can be read inside a library at no charge. To check one out, you will need to have the library fee on you before you GET the book from its shelf. This requires confirmation. The fee to check ou a book may vary from library to library. >get volume A spectacled library assistant wanders up to you and asks, "You would like to check out an emerald green suede volume? Certainly -- it will be due back in 80 days if you decide to check it out and you'll be charged 2000 silvers. I'm afraid if you're late in returning it, we'll have to charge a hefty fee and inform the town authorities if your tardiness has been chronic. Thank you for your patronage." Moving swiftly, he takes your silvers and then wanders off. When he returns, he's holding a near exact duplicate of the volume -- which he then hands to you with a smile. "Enjoy." He says before wandering back off. To return a book early, simply bring it to the librarian NPC inside the library where it was checked out, and then GIVE it to the librarian. A blue-robed human librarian says, "Ah. Thank you very much. I'll mark that you've returned this in a timely fashion." A blue-robed human librarian takes your volume from you and places it back on the shelves. Purchasing Library Books Some but not all libraries are set up to allow for a library book to eventually be purchased after checking it out multiple times. The number of times required to check out a book before the librarian offers it for sale is completely random, and testing this system has shown that it can take up to several hundred times before the offer of sale is given. There is no way to see if a library is set up in advance to allow for its books to be purchased. However, as of recent testing, public libraries in Mist Harbor, Solhaven, and Wehnimer's Landing do allow for book purchases, while the Library Aies in Ta'Illistim does not offer its books for sale.
