This spell will cause the target extreme amounts of pain, resulting in health loss and the potential to temporarily incapacitate the target for short amounts of time. Dependant upon warding failure, between 20% and 35% of target’s maximum health is lost, and up to seven seconds of roundtime can be inflicted on the most successful of casts.
Training in Sorcerous Lore, Necromancy increases the potency of the magic by reducing the threshold of warding required to acheive each level of pain's effect. 0.3 ranks per level is required to acheive the full effect of 35% health loss and 7 sec RT at an endroll of 166 or greater. At 1x, the enroll required is dropped to 141+. Training beyond 1x has no effect on Pain.
Further testing indicates that the effect thresholds against creatures are based on Lore training per target level, not caster level. Each rank of Lore is compared to the target's level. So, for example, 50 ranks is sufficient to receive 35% damage against a level 50 creature on a 141+ endroll, counting as "1x," regardless of the caster's level.
