Chrysogon's scroll codices were introduced by GameMaster Keios at the Talador Baronial Coronation Festival, part of Cross Into Shadows in 2014. Codices may be unlocked by Xerria on Mist Harbor, but only one per year via raffle (2015). Locked codices hold 10 scrolls, unlocked ones hold 20.

The codices can be used with any scroll found in the treasure system, as well as with folios, leafs, sheets, cards, notes, and posters. They cannot be used with any scroll regardless of noun that does not have a 15/15/15 base description.

Although these items are popular for roleplaying purposes or those with only several scrolls, they are not mechanically practical. Specifically, if the codex is in a container, scrolls within it will not be triggered by rummaging. As the codices are not wearable (and have quite limited storage space even when unlocked) it requires holding the codex in hand and then searching for the scroll of interest. This is distinctly less advantageous from a mechanical perspective from keeping scrolls in a dedicated satchel or a similar item that can be worn and deepened as a regular GALD service. Their main use for anyone with a decent scroll collection would then be for specialized scrolls that are used infrequently; however, as noted above, they may not work for certain kinds of dyed, altered, or cut scrolls, and specialized scrolls are much more likely to have such incompatible properties. The scrolls need to be removed from the codex to be worked on by Scroll Infusion (714). It is known that the contents of containers-within-containers is not made weightless by Phase (704), and considering the scripted nature of the codex which would prevent a lock from being added to it, the scrolls within can never be made weightless.

ANALYZE (unlocked codex)
You analyze your plum leather codex and sense that the item is largely free from merchant alteration restrictions, but the creator has stated that "The item has restrictions on changing the noun."

The creator has also provided the following information:

The plum leather codex is designed to hold scroll-type objects when pushed, and the scrolls can be retrieved
when pulled. In addition, the codex can be searched for specific spells on scrolls using FLIP.

Example flip codex <spell mnemonic> or flip codex <spell number>

The codex's noun may be freely altered as long as it stays some sort of open/closable book or binder-type
object as the item references covers and pages.

NOTE The codex's first 15/15/15 field will change as scrolls are added/removed, so any alterations to the
   first 15 will disappear.

The codex may have a long description or show.

   The codex has been unlocked.

You can tell that the codex is as light as it can get and that its pockets could not possibly get any deeper.
