Subject: Combat Maneuvers Update

Monks will now have access to the Spell Parry and Spell Cleave combat maneuvers. Note that monks will need an ensorcelled/anti-magical weapon in order to parry spells, just like anyone else. Spell Cleave can be used with an ensorcelled weapon or UCS gloves. In addition, the Stance of the Mongoose has been opened up to Warriors (this was part of the earlier release, but I simply forgot to announce it).

Finally, in order to allow players to adjust to the recent extensive maneuver updates, a special CMAN FIXSKILLS option has been granted. Until May 2, 2013, all players will have one-time access to the CMAN FIXSKILLS command. This command automatically converts all unlearning CMP into available CMP, so be sure to unlearn any maneuvers you wish migrate before invoking this command.

Subject: Monks Released, Voln Revised!

It has been a long and arduous journey, but I am proud to announce that Monks are now available for creation through the character manager in all instances.

"With the strength of mind, spirit, and body, Monks are the masters of unarmed combat. Typically wearing little to no armor, Monks depend on their skills of evasion to defend themselves. Offensively, Monks chain together quick strikes to overwhelm their foes with jabs, punches, kicks, and throws. Though a Monk's chief focus is on physical forms of combat, they have an easier time learning magical skills than either Warriors or Rogues."

A number of new systems have been introduced as a part of the release, including unarmed combat, the Minor Mental spell circle, and a host of new Combat maneuvers.

Additionally, the Order of Voln has had a significant revision to its members' abilities. The details of the updates can be found here:

Many GMs put in many hours of effort and dedication into seeing these projects completed. I'd like to thank Finros, Coase, Estild, Oscuro, and Konacon, who were all instrumental in the design, implementation, and quality control of these monumental projects. I'd also like to thank Marstreforn, Mazreth, Lydil, Xayle, and Scribes for putting together a fun and engaging release event to tie everything together. Finally, I'd like to thank Sirina and Solomon, for helping us to coordinate all of the necessary backend changes with onsite.

I hope everyone enjoys these new additions to the game, and we look forward to hearing your feedback once you've had the chance to experience them.

As a special bonus for registered SimuCon attendees this year, we will be granting access to our test server for beta testing of all things monkish. The initial beta period will revolve around the Minor Mental spell list, and other features (Unarmed Combat and maneuvers) will be rolled out to the test instance as they are available.

We expect the initial beta period to open before year-end (but NOT before SimuCon). You will not need to do anything additional to participate other than be register for SimuCon with a GS4 account (prime OR platinum).

Monks will be the most magical of the Squares and will have access to the Minor Spiritual and Minor Mental circles. Savants will, obviously, also have access to the Minor Mental circle.
