The MechSpinner was available via the 2024 Rumor Woods Tourney Vault, purchased through the SimuCoin Store. An exoskeleton from the Tourney Vault forms the heart of the MechSpinner, and ten additional parts must be added to it to complete the MechSpinner. Its construction is similar to the Clockwerke Golem. In its completed state, the MechSpinner is a mechanical spinner that can alternate between its exoskeleton, beetle, and spider forms. It can also be worn.

It has some verb traps to play around. Otherwise it is a spinner! The spinner will store up to 99 names until it needs to be reset. It can be reset at any point. It uses some more basic random choosing than a merchant spinner, but it is relatively the same. Use SPIN each time to choose someone. It will store names by default, but you can reset between spins if you want it to be able to select the same person twice.

Analyze

You analyze the pewter beetle and sense that the creator has provided the following information:

This is a part from the MechSpinner from Rumor Woods 2024! You can ADD pieces that come from the pile of scrap metal. LOOK at it to see what parts you need to complete it! If you choose not to complete your MechSpinner, you can BREAK it for a violet experience orb.

Be sure to check the announcements for more details.

You get no sense of whether or not the beetle may be further lightened.

PRESS Beetle You press down on a mechanical pewter beetle and it begins transforming. An iridescent green-jeweled head retracts into a whorl-etched pewter shell, a pair of fuzzy plumose antennae detacts and shift into small grooves. It is replaced with a bristled peacock spider head with some round jade eyes blinking into existence. A set of mosaic wings rotates to the side and lay flat allowing a dark gem-inset spinneret to stick out from the base of the abdomen. Some beveled faenor legs are quickly swapped out for some beveled faenor legs. The beetle has completely reconstructed itself into a spider. Additionl Information

Description

MechSpinners have hard-coded LOOK/SHOW descriptions. They are derived from the parts added to the exoskeleton as part of its construction.

Exoskeleton Form (Complete)
About the size of a silver coin, the mechanical exoskeleton has a whorl-etched pewter shell with some shifting urnon gears on its thorax. It shows no signs of movement, but a peek inside the exoskeleton's cavity, all of the parts are tucked inside. The exoskeleton has been spun a total of 69 times.
Beetle Form
About the size of a silver coin, the mechanical beetle has a whorl-etched pewter shell with some shifting urnon gears on its thorax. It has an iridescent green-jeweled head with a pair of fuzzy plumose antennae protruding from it. A set of mosaic wings stays in a constant state of motion on its abdomen, creating a light hissing sound. On each side of the beetle are some beveled faenor legs. The beetle has been spun a total of 69 times.
Spider Form
About the size of a silver coin, the mechanical spider has a whorl-etched pewter shell with some shifting urnon gears on its thorax. It has a bristled peacock spider head with some round jade eyes watching its surroundings. A dark gem-inset spinneret sticks out from the base of its abdomen, however there is no sign of silk. On each side of the spider are some beveled faenor legs. The spider has been spun a total of 69 times.

MechSpinner Parts

Parts for the MechSpinner were available for event currency as random draws from a pile during Rumor Woods 2024.

The MechSpinner started out as just an exoskeleton for the base part. 10 additional parts had to be ADDed to it to complete it, which encompassed both its beetle and its spider form once completed. To complete a MechSpinner, the following parts must be added to the exoskeleton: a body, gears, a beetle head, beetle antennae, beetle wings, beetle legs, spider head, spider eyes, spider spinneret, and spider legs. After all parts are added, you must PRESS it to complete its construction.

Some parts were exclusively beetle or spider, and they could be INSPECTed to identify the purpose of the part (leg vs wing) and the form for which it was intended. Level 20+ burghal gnomes were capable of using TINKER to change certain form-specific parts between their beetle and spider forms, such as legs.

The ANALYZE is identical for the incomplete exoskeleton, the different parts, and the completed and functional MechSpinner. Unfortunately this means that it implies that a completed MechSpinner is not yet complete.

Spinner

Once the MechSpinner has been completed, it can be used as a spinner via SPIN in either the beetle or spider form.

As a spinner, it will store up to 99 names at once. SPIN must be used each time to select a person visibly standing in the room. LISTEN will allow you to hear the list of names spun. Depending on how many people have been spun, this list might be very long! Once 99 names have been added to the spinner's list, SPIN can no longer be used until the list is cleared. Use COVER to clear the current list of names. A character cannot be respun while their name is on the list.
