Settlement of Reim is the first permanently available dungeon crawl pay quest that is instanced into the following level groups:

  1. 1-30
  2. 31-60
  3. 61-90
  4. 91-100

The quest area is roughly 200 rooms split into four quadrants. Players have two hours to complete the quest or hunt within the area. Creatures scale to the characters' levels and are all non-corporeal undead.

Entry

The entry is beneath Icemule Trace on Thurfel's Island. Find the watery vortex just off of a pier (Lich room #9147). Venture into the vortex and through the cavernous approach to begin the quest.

For those who wish to navigate there on their own - From Icemule Town Center: s, w, w, sw, s, climb well, down, go limb, down, down, down, down, down, down, go stair, down, down, down, down, s, se, e, s, down, s, s, s, se, go bridge, s, sw, s, climb stalag, s, se, go stones, e, ne, n, e, ne, ne, e, go pier, go vortex, up, up, up, go path.

Premium/Platinum subscribers will be able to access this quest on a daily cooldown of 22 hours. Standard and F2P subscribers will need to purchase a token which will be available in the SimuCoins store. A transport options from other realms to the quest is available at a higher reputation level. This will cost energy (500 energy) that can be earned by killing creatures within Reim. The command is REIM TRANSPORT.

Characters looking to group up with someone in a different level instance can flag themselves to enter a higher level instance with REIM LEVEL, but be warned, creatures are much harder.

Progression and Rare Spawns

As you progress through the quest you will encounter "rarely spawned" creatures. These are higher level and have different names. You must kill the rare spawns in order to progress through the quest. There are a total of eight different areas. They are as follows:

  • The Township (AKA the village)
  • The Approach (AKA the road)
  • The Courtyard
  • The Servant Wing
  • The Visitor Wing
  • The Royal Wing
  • The Throne Room
  • The Treasury

If you are blocked when trying to go through a gate/door to the next area, you still need to kill a rare spawn. You can check your progression using the REIM INFO command and see which area you are currently flagged to enter up to.

Death

If you die, you will be swept up by gentle, groping, ethereal hands. It will cost energy and reputation to raise the character, which will be dumped out in a safe room back at the entrance or where you entered the quest from with REIM TRANSPORT. To avoid being pulled away you can lifekeep yourself at any time or have a friend do so. You are limited to one death per quest run. The resurrection mechanics can also be turned off via REIM DEATH and bodies will simply be deposited outside of the quest.

Invasions

If a group of four or more is questing together, an automated invasion may be triggered! This consists of 2-4 creatures for each character throughout the area of the quest you are in. This has a cooldown and will not happen all the time.

Reputation

Characters can earn reputation by killing within the quest. Reputation will allow access to new features and gain more quest energy. A character's attack and defense boosts will also be scaled up based on its reputation.

Reputation Levels:

  • 0-1000 - Neutral
  • 1000-2500 - Friendly
  • 2500-4500 - Amiable
  • 4500-7000 - Revered
  • 7000-10000 - Exalted
  • 10000 - Ally

Quest Energy

Quest energy is earned by killing creatures within Reim. This energy can be used for a few REIM BOOST, REIM CAMP access, and REIM TRANSPORT into the quest. The higher amount of reputation you have, the more quest energy you can save with a maximum of 3000.

Ethereal Scrip

Creatures and boxes have ethereal scrip to collect to spend in the Reim Base Camp.

Traps

Randomized throughout the quest area are traps. Some will require you to react and respond. Example, if a bow is pointed at your head...DUCK! You will have 5 seconds to respond after being prompted to react. If you respond wrong you will still have a randomized chance to avoid the trap... or suffer. There are some traps that are unavoidable.

Blowgun

A slender ethereal blowgun appears from the shadows nearby, aimed right for you!
Roundtime: 1 sec.
>lean
You quickly lean to avoid the ethereal dart!

Bow

An ethereal bow appears from the shadows nearby, aimed right for you!
Roundtime: 1 sec.
>lean

Without the correct reaction, an SMR follows. Success can still incur RT:

You move quickly out of the path of the arrow, narrowly escaping its wrath!

>lean
You quickly lean to avoid the ethereal chain!

Hands

A pair of ethereal hands shoot up from the ground, straight for your legs!
Roundtime: 1 sec.
>jump
You quickly jump to avoid the ethereal hands!

Pitfall

This takes the group leader, or a loner, and drops you into a pitfall trap with another creature. You can try to escape but the creature has a chance to block you.

Other members of your group (or random people walking by) can jump in and help you.

Retsgirl asks, "Hey Retser, you're looking cute today. Want to go for a walk in this village?"

You say, "Why yes, yes I would, this is so romantic."

RETSGIRL DECIDES TO MOVE NORTHEAST.

Retsgirl plummets into a pitfall trap as something chases her in.

You exclaim, "OMG NO! I SAIF YOU!"

A bucket attached to a frayed rope sits on a low stone well in the middle of this corner of the village square. Carefully laid cobblestones run north and east past small shops. A glimpse of a bazaar can be spied through the gap between two empty houses, their fronts identical but for the color of the doors. You also see a pitfall trap and a large glowing chest.

You make a flying leap into the pitfall trap!

[Pitfall Trap]
The pit is barren sans carved lengths of sharpened logs stuck into the ground. The ground is stained with dried blood and other fluids pooling around a pile of impaled suits of armor in the exact center. A frayed rope dangles into the pit from above, its excess length messily coiled on the barren floor. You also see an unworldly servant.

Your reputation with Reim just got better.

Treasures

Randomly generated throughout the quest are treasure chests that can be SEARCHed. These have a chance for creatures, quest energy/reputation, and clumps of dirt that have potential for nice prizes!

Achievements

There are 3 achievements available and each will unlock a post-name title for your character that you achieved it with.

  1. Reach 100,000 kills within the Settlement of Reim.
  2. Reach maximum reputation within the Settlement of Reim.
  3. Slay all the rare creatures within Reim.

Tips for Success

  • You can leave during your 2 hours and re-enter penalty free. You can check your time left using REIM TIME. Note that Reim uses real-world time, NOT in-game time as things like spell durations do.
  • An exception are the Emperor and Empress in the Throne Room: they are on an in-game ten minute timer instead. This means that if you need to leave for some reason and disconnect from the game, your overall Reim timer is still counting down your entry's two hours, but the Emperor & Empress will not de-spawn while you are not in-game.
  • Know where your safe rooms are, you're going to get overwhelmed sometime and need a rest. Rooms with a vortex are generally safe rooms.
  • Pitfalls are safe rooms after you kill the mob inside it, don't be afraid to jump in if you need a rest!
  • Make sure your weapons are magical and blessed. Ranged users generally are the ones that encounter issues with this.
  • Have your group individually meet inside the first mist safe room. This will help prevent the crazy initial swarming when you first enter.
  • Make sure your first-timers know about the REIM verb and how the flagging system works.
  • Don't wait around in the very first room of Reim! The first area swarms much more easily than anywhere else in Reim. MOVE IT!
