First Aid is a skill that is used in skinning and tending wounds. It is also taken into account when diagnosing another character's injuries, appraising skins, and using herbs. It affects the roundtime incurred by the use of herbs, and aids in successfully piercing another character.

First Aid is also taken into account when resisting certain poisons and diseases.

Roundtime Reduction in the Use of Herbs

Eating various herbs takes roundtime, and is reduced by training in first aid at a rate of -1 roundtime per 20 skill bonus. Thus, four ranks of first aid (which imparts a skill bonus of 20) provides the first -1 roundtime reduction, where 40 ranks (140 bonus) of first aid translate into a -7 roundtime reduction.

The roundtime of eating herbs cannot be reduced below 3 via this mechanism. Under certain conditions, the roundtime of drinking a tincture can be reduced to 2 via this mechanism.
