Death Cloud produces a much more potent version of Stun Cloud (1704). Like stun cloud, the cloud blasts its targets with lightning bolts. The death cloud delivers. Death clouds do not weaken over time; until they are dispelled or dissipate on their own, every bolt can easily kill anything it connects with; use with extreme caution! The cloud is unpredictable and can move into an adjacent area at anytime.

Cloud spells will dissipate if their caster is not in the same room. Spells such as Spirit Dispel (119), Elemental Dispel (417), Mental Dispel (1218), Breeze (612), Hand of Tonis (505) and Call Wind (912) will cause it to instantly disperse. Killing the caster is also an effective means to rid a room of a cloud.

This spell can commonly be found in a handful of deathstone granules available through the treasure system, and can also appear on scrolls.

This spell is native to the Wizard Base spell circle.

Once cast, it cannot be dismissed voluntarily. It does not necessarily 'stick' to the same target; every lightning bolt targets from amongst any valid target in the room.

The cloud acts every 10 seconds, takes 3 rounds to form, and will then either fire or randomly do nothing / move rooms for the next 9 rounds, at which point it dissipates.

Example

Casting the cloud. The look identical to stun clouds:

> cast
You gesture.
You look up to see a gas cloud begin to form.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

> look at cloud
It is a cloud of gas hovering in the area. As you look at it closely, you can see hundreds of small static discharges within its space.

10 seconds later, first formation message:

You notice the gas cloud begin to condense!

20 seconds since casting: second formation message:

Large sparks begin to form in the center of the gas cloud!

30 seconds since casting: third and final formation message:

The static discharges are now audible from the gas cloud, and it looks like it won't be long before it releases some energy.

40 seconds since casting: the cloud starts throwing out a lightning bolt (or randomly do nothing) every 10 seconds:

The gas cloud begins to shake with uncontrollable power...
Suddenly, a spark of energy arcs out of it and strikes at a frost giant...
   ... 10 points of damage!
Heavy spark to back. Bet that hurts.
   The frost giant is stunned!

50 seconds since casting:

The gas cloud begins to shake with uncontrollable power...
Suddenly, a spark of energy arcs out of it and strikes at a frost giant ...
   ... 20 points of damage!
Heavy shock gives the frost giant fits!
It is knocked to the ground!
   The frost giant is stunned!

60 seconds since casting:

The gas cloud begins to shake with uncontrollable power...
Suddenly, a spark of energy arcs out of it and strikes at a frost giant ...
   ... 25 points of damage!
Horrid jolt to forehead amplifies brain waves. You hear the frost giant scream in your head.
   The frost giant is stunned!

70 seconds since casting, a random mood message and no action even though a target is available:

The gas cloud emits several large sparks, and shifts direction suddenly.

... but the cloud is still active; death clouds do not lose lethality over time. 80 seconds since casting:

The gas cloud begins to shake with uncontrollable power...
Suddenly, a spark of energy arcs out of it and strikes at a frost giant ...
   ... 70 points of damage!
Massive shock totally burns out the nervous system. Nothing works anymore.
The frost giant cries out in cold agony one last time and dies.

90 seconds since casting, another random shift without a bolt even though targets are available:

The gas cloud emits several large sparks, and shifts direction suddenly

100 seconds since casting, and unsuccessful attempts to get rid of the cloud:

The gas cloud begins to shake with uncontrollable power...
Suddenly, a spark of energy arcs out of it and strikes at a frost giant ...
   ... 60 points of damage!
Electric shock causes a strong enough convulsion to snap the frost giant's neck.
The frost giant falls to the ground motionless.

> dismiss cloud
 Don't be absurd.
> stop 1713
 Stop what?

110 second and 120 seconds since casting, with no valid targets in the area, no messaging whatsoever. The cloud does not shoot at its caster.

130 seconds since its casting it begins to dissipate:

The gas cloud begins to dissipate.

140 seconds since its casting, it disappears; the gas cloud in the room disappears with this message:

A quiet wind disperses the gas cloud.
