You analyze your heart-shaped locket and sense that the item is largely free from merchant alteration restrictions.

The creator has also provided the following information:

You can OPEN and CLOSE the locket.

This locket is currently attuned to you as the owner, and when you COVER it, you will be able to think of your beloved. If your beloved also has a similarly attuned item, then he or she will know when you are thinking this! Only a handful of merchants are able to change the attunement on this item.

A talented merchant may be able to deepen the heart-shaped locket's pockets, but there may be restrictions on how many items it can hold. However, you might be able to have a talented merchant lighten the locket for you.

Variable Expression

Variable Expression lockets have been sold in Sharlatta's wagon, The Ivory Mask, and are sometimes unlocked/attuned by Villicent.

Analyze

Unopened locket
You analyze the faenor locket and sense that the item is largely free from merchant alteration restrictions.

The creator has also provided the following information:
This is the "Variable Expression" version of a portrait locket. The following may be altered by a willing merchant: the base (15/15/15); a long description; the picture that is visible inside of the locket when it is open; the outside surface (this will always be preceded by the words, "The outside of the locket is"); and the read. None of these aspects may contradict one another.

To create a portrait of yourself in the locket, simply OPEN it while it is in your right hand. Once the portrait is made, you cannot alter the picture without the help of a willing merchant. Bear in mind that when the initial portrait is made of someone using this locket, it will show him or her as a vain person. Some merchants may be willing to change the initial portrait "personality" (prior to the portrait being taken) for you (options are: curmudgeon, giggly, evil, haughty, joyful/adventurous, flirt, moody, confident, triumphant, happy drunk, peaceful, bookworm, romantic, gambler, vain, daredevil).

Currently you are able to COVER, OPEN, TUCK, and CLOSE the locket. This locket may be unlocked further by a very small handful of merchants.

A small handful of merchants may be able and willing to attune this locket to a beloved.

You might be able to have a talented merchant lighten the faenor locket for you or deepen its pockets.

Personalities

The portrait generated is based on what the locket personality is set to at the time it is first OPENed. A merchant can change the personality after the locket portrait is generated without changing the portrait itself. Due to this, you can have a locket with the portrait of one personality and verbs of a different personality. This is particularly handy when the person in the locket has a very different personality than the eventual owner of the locket.

Curmudgeon

portrait Stuck into the red gold locket, you see an incredibly detailed portrait of a half elf. Under her hip-length, raven black hair, her brow has darkened and, she is frowning. Through velvet black eyes, she stares out at you moodily. Clearly, she doesn't like anything about her day, least of all having her portrait painted. As if taking a cue from her, the sky behind her is painted a foreboding grey color, streaked with rain-filled, roiling clouds.
rub Entertaining bad-tempered thoughts, you idly swirl your finger over the outer surface of your locket.
gaze With your hand on your locket, you gaze around, making no effort to hide how much you'd rather be anywhere other than here right now.
whisper Twirling your locket around, you quietly whisper words of discontent.

Giggly

portrait Tucked into the heart-shaped locket, you see an intricately detailed portrait of a half elf. Her velvet black eyes have a twinkle in them, and she is smiling happily at you. Her hip-length, raven black hair picks up highlights from a cheerily shining sun in a background of blue skies and green trees. It looks like such a perfect setting for a picnic that you can almost hear sounds of giggling and singing.
rub Entertaining a plethora of delightful ideas, you idly swirl your finger over the outer surface of your locket, which is a doe in the forest carved in jade.
gaze With your hand on your locket, you gaze around happily and giggle a little to yourself.
whisper

Evil

portrait Mounted in the rune-shaped jet locket, you see a carefully crafted portrait of a half elf. A chill wind whips through a landscape alight with either lightning or flame. Her hip-length, raven black hair frames velvet black eyes that hold nothing but hostility and aggression. She looks as if she has been interrupted while daydreaming about pulling the wings off hummingbirds. High above her, a stark black sky is marked by cold pinpricks of starlight.

Haughty

portrait Mounted in the brushed silver locket, you see a masterfully-painted portrait of a half elf. She stands in an affected pose, every fold of her clothing in place. Moody

portrait Firmly inset in the blackened bone locket, the meticulously detailed likeness of a halfling, with long, fire red hair, stares out. Standing tall and straight-backed, hands folded in her lap, her pose oozes self-control. Her expression, however, is openly peevish, as if she is biting her tongue until the exact right moment for unleashing her irritation. Behind her, a dark, stormy sky hovers over a stretch of misty swampland, further enhancing the moody expression in her clear green eyes.

  • Note: When first taking a portrait, the confident personality lockets will attempt to find the target's largest OSA ship and will produce a portrait featuring the type and name of that ship instead of the default "massive sailing ship." This will not change if you later obtain a larger ship or change its name, but a GALD merchant can modify the portrait inside the locket if desired.

Triumphant

Fully engaged in a sword fight, she is in the midst of parrying with the sword in her right hand while simultaneously throwing a dagger from her left hand toward her dueling partner. Happy Drunk

portrait Jammed into the blackened bone locket is a detailed, though slightly scuffed, portrait of a halfling. Her clear green eyes are bloodshot, her clothing is rumpled and stained, and her long, dark fire red hair is a tangled, matted mess. Her entire person, in fact, is in need of a long, hot bath, though the subject doesn't seem to care, for she smiles broadly, her expression silly. Her hands curl around a large bottle of liquor that she raises up to the sky in a toast.

Fear

portrait Nestled into the blackened bone locket is an elaborate portrait of a halfling under duress. Hands bound in front of her, she exudes a grim determination that is betrayed only by the stark, unadulterated fear in her clear green eyes and the green tinge tinting her freckled, tan skin. A band of halfling pirates take swigs from their rum jugs as they herd the woman toward their ship's plank, which juts out over a turbulent sea.

Romantic

portrait The locket houses a tiny portrait of a sylvan woman seated at a sanguine velvet-skirted table on a railing-enclosed balcony beneath a starlit sky. Two beeswax tapered candles on ornate silver pedestals cast her amber hair and alabaster skin with a subtle golden wash and light twin flames in each of her emerald eyes as she smiles adoringly at you. One hand reaches across the table, palm up, as if waiting to clasp yours.

Gambler

portrait Cached within the locket rests a minuscule portrait of a sylvan woman leaning against a Dragon Bones table. The crimson silk of the tent enclosing the tiny tableau accentuates her windblown amber hair/bald head, and her emerald eyes are widened with exhilaration. A brash grin on her pale face, she stands poised to toss the pair of draconic dice clutched in one hand, the other brushing an Ilvari luck charm.

Peaceful/Meditative

portrait A detailed depiction of an Iyo village is rendered in miniature along the border of the portrait resting inside the locket. At its center, a sylvan woman sits tailor-style near a meadow-circled pond asplash with fuzzy umber ducklings. An aureate halo of sunlight kisses her windblown amber hair, and her hands rest casually on her knees. Her emerald eyes have a faraway look in them as they gaze at you, unseeing.

Daredevil

portrait A sylvan woman looks at you from the portrait stashed inside the locket, a devil-may-care grin stretched across her pale face, emerald eyes crinkled with euphoria as the wind whips at her amber hair/clothing. She stands balancing on one foot atop a shoulder of the great Colossus, the Abandoned Inn little more than a tiny dot in the background, oblivious to the ever-present danger from the tempestuous currents of air at those vertiginous heights.

Bookworm

portrait Ensconced in the locket is a precisely rendered portrait of a sylvan woman seated at a scroll-scattered table amongst labyrinthine bookshelves. One hand is caught tucking a lock of amber behind one ear/one hand serves as a resting place for her chin as she turns the page of a gilt-edged tome. The warm illumination from a nearby oil lamp casts her pale face in shadows, but you can still discern an expression of deep concentration as her emerald eyes drink in the text.
