Celemerun Illistim

The fifth of the dynastic line of Argent Mirrors, Celemerun was the son and only offspring of Adonethwen Illistim. He was the first male ruler of House Illistim, sometimes called "The Beautiful" or "The Lame" as a mark of derision. The early years of his reign were spent indulging, or countering, his reputation as a playboy. His lifestyle became more serious after a riding accident that partially paralyzed him, and he spent his later years improving relations with the other Elven houses. Historians have been kinder to him than his contemporaries.

Celemerun was born in -40,274 Modern Era (8,833 Illistim) during his mother's reign. He assumed the Peacock Throne at the age of 845 after the abdication of his mother, who was almost four thousand years old at the time. He remained in power until the age of 2,380 after 1,535 years, when he was succeeded by his daugher Atilsaah Illistim whom he had at an unknown date late in his reign. Celemerun also had a son, whose name is not known. He was the great-grandson of Linsandrych.

The art hanging from the copper-veined marble walls is largely portraiture. Each piece is suspended on its own section of white space, leaving even the smallest with a clean border of surround. The greenish color of the patinated arch that leads in and out of the chamber is echoed in a single square tile set into the center of the wooden floor.

Enclosed within a gold frame is a wooden panel, painted with oils. The subject is male and presented in profile, showing off his hooked nose and one sharply pointed ear. Atop his head is a puffed sapphire velvet cap and around his neck is a thick chain and medallion, displaying the peacock crest of House Illistim. The color in the portrait is faded and a few hairline cracks mar its upper edge, where both painting and frame are arched. A small plaque is affixed to the bottom of the piece.

In the Common language, it reads:
This portrait is the earliest in the Museum's collection, being perhaps the only existing painting of Argent Mirror Celemerun to have been painted from life. An inscription on the back of the painting, which is obscured by the lower frame, records that the portrait was painted on 11 Ivastaen 11178. This places the image towards the end of Celemerun's reign. The portrait was probably painted as part of the celebration of Celemurun's 1500th anniversary as Argent Mirror.
