A Moth Cloak is a scripted cloak released by GameMaster Xynwen at Ebon Gate 2022. It is inspired by the butterfly charms created by Suz/Fawn and released in March 2000. There is a standard loresong to go with them. Tier 1Locked into either moth or butterfly mode. Can randomize the look. Each PUSH to randomize sets up a full moth look and a full butterfly lookAnalyze~*~ Moth Cloaks ~*~ This cloak is a butterfly/moth cloak with several randomizing points to create multiple unique looks with a single PUSH. It is Tier 1 out of 5, and it is set to the moth setting. Utilities: * PUSH - replaces your randomized look Unlocked Fluff Verbs: None. This is an off-the-shelf cloak. Alterations: * Base: must be simple, as it carries across all looks. The noun must be in the hooded cloak family. * Material: must be a type of cloth. This carries across all looks. * Custom settings: The alter points must be provided in this specific order: ** "butterfly adjective^wingtype^forewing color^forewing marking^forewing marking color^forewing marking location^hindwing color^hindwing marking^hinding marking color^hindwing markinglocation^special*moth adjective^wingtype^forewing color^forewing marking^forewing marking color^forewing marking location^hindwing color^hindwing marking^hinding marking color^hindwing marking location^special ** Moth/Butterfly Adjective alter point must be 15 characters or less. No a/an needed. ** See the wiki for in-depth information and examples at https://gswiki.play.net/Moth_Cloak * Custom Look 1 (Butterfly): You can provide a SHOW for your custom setting. It cannot contradict the alter points selected for the custom settings. * Custom Look 2 (Moth): Same as butterfly, but for the moth version. * Doing a custom setting is 1 alteration service, as is each custom look (so a custom setting, butterfly look, and moth look are 3 separate alterations. This is because each one is fairly intricate). * The base/material can be done by a merchant separately or at the same time as one of the custom alterations. * It is up to the individual merchant if they wish to work on these items. Usage
Tier 23 fluff verbs. Ability to toggle the "mode" between locked and not. Unlocked means it will change itself from butterfly to moth to butterfly depending on time of day (Night/Perceived Night = moth mode; Day = butterfly mode)Usage
Tier 33 additional fluff verbs. Ability to save two randomized "looks" (each saved item includes butterfly/moth mode). You can erase a saved look as well.Usage
Tier 43 additional fluff verbs. Ability to create your own moth/butterfly "look" (aka the data points under alteration guidelines below). Ability to create a custom SHOW to go with the custom "look."Usage
Tier 52 additional fluff verbs. Ability for 3x/day encumbrance reduction (15m per RUB), renews at midnight server time.Analyze~*~ Moth Cloaks ~*~ This greatcloak is a butterfly/moth cloak with several randomizing points to create multiple unique looks with a single PUSH. It is Tier 5 out of 5, and it is set to the moth setting. It is set to rotate with day/night changes. You can APPROVE to toggle this setting. The greatcloak features an encumbrance reduction (3x/day, 15 minutes each RUB, resets at midnight server time. There are 3 charges left today. Utilities: * APPROVE: toggles whether or not your cloak will change with day and night * CLEAN: will clear the selected, stored look * POKE: takes your randomized look and saves it in 1 of the 2 available stored slots * PUSH - replaces your randomized look * TURN - rotates through all saved looks (current randomized look, any stored randomized looks, the custom look, if applicable) Unlocked Fluff Verbs: observe, tickle, eat, flip, hug, raise, bow, curtsy, brush, touch, and wave * WAVE has some "drama llama" options for you! Try WAVE CLOAK WITH (anger, drama, joy, mystery, or sorrow) Alterations: * Base: must be simple, as it carries across all looks. The noun must be in the hooded cloak family. * Material: must be a type of cloth. This carries across all looks. * Custom settings: The alter points must be provided in this specific order: ** "butterfly adjective^wingtype^forewing color^forewing marking^forewing marking color^forewing marking location^hindwing color^hindwing marking^hinding marking color^hindwing markinglocation^special*moth adjective^wingtype^forewing color^forewing marking^forewing marking color^forewing marking location^hindwing color^hindwing marking^hinding marking color^hindwing marking location^special ** Moth/Butterfly Adjective alter point must be 15 characters or less. As you sing to a dagged-wing butterfly cloak of fiery red velvet, a fluttering of wings obscures your sight, and when it clears, you find yourself in a vision of a lush green glade surrounded by a forest of silvery aspens. A young sylvan girl hides in the trees, quietly observing a spotted fawn curled up in a bed of tall grasses in the glade. With caution and reverence, the girl finally approaches the fawn, which gazes at her warily. The vision skips a few beats, and you see the girl cavorting with the fawn across the same glade, their friendship fully solidified. The vision slowly fades. | A dagged-wing butterfly cloak of fiery red velvet flutters in XXX's hand as she sings to it. |
Singing softly to a dagged-wing butterfly cloak of fiery red velvet, a vision bursts forth before your eyes. Thousands, possibly millions, of butterflies flit about the forest glade, an awkward young deer gamboling after them as the sylvan girl laughs. The deer, fawn spots almost faded, leaps over to the girl, nudging her until she rises and cavorts with it and the kaleidoscope of butterflies. Dozens of butterflies land on both the deer and girl as they flop to the ground exhausted. The girl begins to study the myriad fluttering creatures intently as the image slowly fades. | A dagged-wing butterfly cloak of fiery red velvet flutters in XXX's hand as she sings to it. |
With a soft song directed to a dagged-wing butterfly cloak of fiery red velvet, you find yourself once again in the forest glade, this time at night. The moons cast soft light upon the scene, wrapping it in a silvery, luminous glow. A young woman stands still as a statue, letting an eclipse of moths swirl about her. By her side is a beautiful doe, also covered in myriad unique moths. You feel, rather than see, the deep presence of nature magic emanating from the woman, and you belatedly realize she is whispering an incantation. Magic fills the glade, illuminating the moths with a golden incandescence as the vision fades. | A dagged-wing butterfly cloak of fiery red velvet flutters in XXX's hand as she sings to it, cast in a golden incandescence |
As you take up your song again with a dagged-wing butterfly cloak of fiery red velvet, an image wavers into place. The sylvan woman and her doe companion walk through the silvery forest, the doe bedecked with a wide ribbon of cobalt tartan striped with holly green, vermilion, and ivory. A kaleidoscope of butterflies flutters overhead, forming a bejeweled cloud following the pair. Every so often, members of the living rainbow dart down to rest on the woman's cloak, their beating wings often mirrored in the cloak's lush velvet. The woman sings a song redolent with nature magic: a song of love and impermanence, of beauty and sadness, a song of the forest. As it fades, so too does your vision, and a single spectral butterfly flies from the cloak and darts away. | A dagged-wing butterfly cloak of fiery red velvet flutters in XXX's hand as she sings to it. As her song ends, a single spectral butterfly flies from the cloak and darts away. |
Additional Information
Unlocks
- T2-T5 are available OTS at EG 2022 in The Cloaked Eclipse
Alteration Guidelines
- Base 15/15/15 can be updated but it will persist through all changes. It must fit all the moth/butterfly options.
- Noun can be any sort of flowing cloak-like noun (so cloak, mantle, cape, greatcloak, longcloak, etc). Nothing tight-fitted or with sleeves.
- Material: Will persist across all iterations of the cloak
- When you have unlocked it to allow a custom butterfly/moth, you'll need to it all the points.
- It is strongly recommended that you play with the randomizer a bit to get used to the various options and how they are used before developing your own
- When you LOOK at an item, it uses these points, so you can get a good idea of the flow that way: Resembling an illuminated cloakwing tenebrous moth, the spidersilk of the greatcloak features sunny yellow speckles festooned along the edges of the tenebrous forewings and ghost white sprinkles centered on the citrine hindwings. Tiny caterpillars are embroidered along the edges of the greatcloak.
- While it has its own loresong, it is set up to allow for a custom loresong. Whether or not a merchant offering these would take a moth cloak will be GM-dependent, but it is a possibility.
Customized Points
- Format to provide the merchant: butterfly adjective^wingtype^forewing color^forewing marking^forewing marking color^forewing marking location^hindwing color^hindwing marking^hinding marking color^hindwing markinglocation^special*moth adjective^wingtype^forewing color^forewing marking^forewing marking color^forewing marking location^hindwing color^hindwing marking^hinding marking color^hindwing marking location^special
- NOTE: All together (including ^s and spaces), this can't go above 511 characters. The adjective field must be 15 characters or less, but the others can be more than that.
- Definitions
- Adjective: Must be 15 characters or less. This goes before the wingtype, so it's items like "opalescent" or "ragged," for example.
- Wingtype: Wingtype/shape is to describe the wings of the butterfly or moth
- Forewing Color: The primary color of the forewing.
- Forewing Marking: The marking on the forewing. These can take a lot of different options, like sprinkles or speckles, etc.
- Forewing Marking Color: Color of the marking
- Forewing Marking Location: Where it is -- it will be followed by "forewings," so design accordingly. Example: "centered on the" or "at the tip of the"
- Hindwing Color: Same guidance as forewings
- Hindwing Marking: Same guidance as forewings
- Hindwing Marking Color: Same guidance as forewings
- Hindwing Marking Location: Same guidance as forewings
- Special: This should be a full sentence. It's just an extra bit of flair for your cloak
- (Repeat the above for the moth section)
- Custom SHOW: You can also add a show to your custom creation (but not to the randomized ones, since you can clean out the saved ones and re-randomize). This should not contradict the custom data points above that you created. It is also a separate alteration service (can't do both at once - these are too involved).
Anatomy of the LOOK:
Randomized Field Assembly: Resembling (a/an) (adjective) (wingtype) (butterfly/moth), the (material) of the cloak features (forewing marking color) (forewing marking) (forewing marking location) (forewing color) forewings and (hindwing marking color) (hindwing marking) (hindwing marking location) (hindwing color) hindwings. (Special)
Resembling an iridescent fairy-winged butterfly, the velvet cloak features azuline eyespots edged about the crimson forewings and ivory ribbons scattered across the ebon hindwings. The voluminous hood of the cloak is lined with the feathery impressions of a moth's attennae.
