This spell, when cast upon a fresh magical item found within the treasure system, will create an exact duplicate in the caster's other hand. The original (and duplicate) are then immune to further duplication, but otherwise identical to the original item.

The most common use for this spell is white crystals, blue crystals, and black crystals, as well as most types of wands. There are other duplicatable items, but they are rather rare.

The proper use of the spell involves holding the item the caster wishes to duplicate in one hand, with the other hand empty, and then casting the spell at the item. Casting Elemental Detection (405) on the item first is often a good idea.
