A completed woven item can only feature two materials woven into it as part of its long description. While more than two different weavable items can be used as part of its construction, which ones appear in the completed woven item's long description is determined in a specific way. As a general rule of thumb, the two items with the greatest quantity added will be featured in the long description, although there are caveats. Regardless of which materials are featured in the completed woven item's long description, all materials added will still be included in the woven item's show description.

Once a woven chain has been started and is in process with two or more items, the determination of which items are featured (and in which order) is prioritized in the following way:

# If two materials are tied for the greatest quantity, the first one featured will always be the first material to reach that amount.
# If three or more materials are tied for the greatest quantity, the first and second ones featured will always be the first and second to reach that amount. Other materials will not be featured if they were third or later to reach that tied quantity.

The weaving system was released in 2006 alongside the "Secrets of the Wavedancer" event. Weaving gives the user the opportunity to create wearable or held items and accessories with flowers, herbs, pelts, leaves, gemstones, feathers, and ribbons.

Weaving requires multiple weavable items, which are frequently available at various pay events and festivals.

The completed woven item made via the weaving system is called a Woven Chain, and it can take on many different forms depending on what was used to create it, how many items were used, and what noun type is selected as part of the creation process.

Weaving tools allow a character to turn certain found objects into weavable items. While not necessary to engage in the weaving system, they allow for a greater variety of weavable items than those available at pay events or festivals. Individual weaving tools work on different types of items such as dropped feathers, skinned critter pelts, found ribbons, foraged plants, and treasure system gems which can be turned into beads. Weaving tools can be stored inside of a special belt.

Secateurs from the Weave a Little Dream of Me Collection I are special tools that can be used on completed woven items to add a fluff script to them. They are an optional item intended to elevate woven items created via the weaving system.

Weavable Items

Weavable items take on a wide variety of forms when sold off the shelf. They can be altered by a merchant. Some merchants that specialize in weaving system items will alter a stack of multiple weavable items at once. When altering a weavable item, bear in mind that there are restrictions on length. You can preview how a weavable item will appear as part of a completed woven item by viewing its ANALYZE information.

You analyze the vivid orange marigold and sense that the creator has provided the following information:
A talented merchant can alter this weavable marigold.  Merchants will require that the marigold can logically be woven together with a duplicate of itself or other weavable items and make sense for eventually forming an item like a garland or anklet.  Appropriate items are flowers, ribbons, leaves, string, and the like.  Nothing big/bulky.  No "gemstone-mimic" weavables (if it can be confused with an actual gemstone, then it's a no go).  No long and show descriptions are allowed at this time.

When weaving, only the adjective and noun, and sometimes part of the article, will matter, so bear this in mind.  Right now, this marigold, when woven, will show up as a "gold-tinted vivid orange marigold," and if there is more than one, you will end up with some "gold-tinted vivid orange marigolds."

To get the full benefit of this marigold, you can try to WEAVE it WITH another similarly weavable item.  You can also BUNDLE (and BUNDLE REMOVE) identical items.

You get no sense of whether or not the marigold may be further lightened.

Weavable items can be created via weaving tools from a variety of found objects.

The Ribbonator 2000 is capable of making several types of ribbons. This includes both unscripted ribbons, which need to be trimmed with the weaving tool scissors, as well as ribbons that are already weavable items. This latter feature is a higher tier unlock.

Woven Items

A woven item, also called a Woven Chain, created via the weaving system requires multiple weavable items in order to be completed. Depending on how many weavable items are used, the end product's description may vary. For example, it will appear as "loosely woven" when created with very few items and "intricately woven" when created with very many.

You analyze the woven bracelet and sense that the creator has provided the following information:
This is a Woven Chain (i.e. it was created via weaving!)  A talented merchant can alter it but only with heavy caveats: the noun cannot change unless it is to alter it back to its default wording (this item's default noun is a "bracelet"), and the long description is currently unable to be altered.  You can add a show that does not contradict the hard-coded LOOK.

You get no sense of whether or not the bracelet may be further lightened.

How to Weave

At its core, weaving involves combining multiple weavable items into a chain of woven items via the WEAVE command. The completed woven item type can be changed at any point in the weaving process via TURN. Once enough weavable items have been added to the woven chain, it can be turned into a completed woven item via PULL. A completed woven item cannot be changed into a different type of woven item.

Beginning Your Chain

The two weavable items you choose to start your chain will form the long description of your created woven item. The show of the completed woven item will display how many items you used to weave your creation as well as what types of items and how many of each.

You can begin your chain with any two weavable items. This is done by WEAVE MY {ITEM #1} WITH MY {ITEM #2}. By default, if both weavable items are different, the object entered as ITEM #1 will appear before ITEM #2 in the chain regardless of which hand holds which item. If both weavable items used are identical, the woven chain will indicate that there is only one type of material in it.

Continuing Your Chain

Once you have begun your chain, adding items to it is relatively simple. You just need to decide what you want to add and what you want to make. From there, you WEAVE CHAIN WITH {ITEM} until you have enough of everything that you want on your chain.

The chart above lists the creations and styles for each creation, based on the number of items woven into your chain. The maximum number of items you can weave into your chain for any creation is 50.

Choosing Your Creation

In order to choose what you want to make, you need to TURN CHAIN to select a type of woven item. You can TURN CHAIN until you reach your desired item, or you can TURN CHAIN TO {OPTION} if you know exactly what you want to make.

A list of valid options be viewed by attempting to TURN CHAIN TO an option that does not exist. The options listed are as follows:

Using Multiple Items

A completed woven item can only feature two materials woven into it as part of its long description. While more than two different weavable items can be used as part of its construction, which ones appear in the completed woven item's long description is determined in a specific way. As a general rule of thumb, the two items with the greatest quantity added will be featured in the long description, although there are caveats. Regardless of which materials are featured in the completed woven item's long description, all materials added will still be included in the woven item's show description.

When the in-process woven chain is first started via WEAVE {ITEM #1} WITH {ITEM #2} while holding two different weavable items, the object entered as ITEM #1 will appear before ITEM #2 in the chain regardless of which hand holds which item.

The order that different materials are featured in the long description can be modified by careful planning.

Once a woven chain has been started and is in process with two or more items, the determination of which items are featured (and in which order) is prioritized in the following way:

  1. The material with the greatest quantity will always be featured first in the long description's order.
  2. If two materials are tied for the greatest quantity, the first one featured will always be the first material to reach that amount.
  3. If three or more materials are tied for the greatest quantity, the first and second ones featured will always be the first and second to reach that amount. Other materials will not be featured if they were third or later to reach that tied quantity.
  4. If material #1 and material #2 are tied as the greatest quantity (and thus featured in the long description) and material #3's quantity is increased greater than material #1 and material #2, then the order of featured material changes. Material #3 becomes the new first material featured, material #1 becomes the new second material featured, and material #2 is no longer featured at all.
